Os, Sr, Nd, Pb, O isotope and trace element data from the Ferrar flood basalts, antarctica: evidence for an enriched subcontinental lithospheric sour…

1996

Os, Sr, Nd, Pb and O isotopes and trace element data are reported for basaltic andesite and andesite whole rocks and, in part, for selected mineral separates from the Jurassic Ferrar flood basalt province. Radiogenic Sr (> 0.709), unradiogenic Nd (εNd= −3 to −5), and radiogenic Pb isotopes, as well as low Nb/La ratios of 0.4 – 0.6 and Nb/La ratios between 0.45 and 0.6 are found for all rocks including our most primitive sample (Mg# = 71.9). This indicates involvement of either continental crust or enriched lithospheric mantle in magma genesis. 187Re/188Os correlates strongly with 187Os/188Os, with an age of 172 ± 5 Ma, in agreement with published Arsingle bondAr data. A deep learning segmentation approach to calories and weight estimation of food images

2019

Master's thesis Information- and communication technology IKT590 - University of Agder 2019 Today’s generation is very aware of what they are eating and the amountof calories in their food. Eating too many calories can lead to increasedweight, which has become a big health issue. A study from 2016 states thatmore than 1,9 billion adults are overweight where almost one third of theseare obese. Statistics from Norway show that 1 of 4 men and 1 of 5 womenare obese.Artificial Intelligence in general and deep learning in particular can be usedto help understand the content of eaten food. In this master thesis, wepropose a network to estimate the weight of food from a single image. Thisis done in…

Referee Bias in Professional Football: Favoritism Toward Successful Teams in Potential Penalty Situations

2020

Past studies have indicated that multiple factors may influence sport referees' decisions, such as pressure from spectators and athletes' reputation. Grounded in the social impact theory framework, this study examined whether Norwegian Premier League (NPL) referees are biased by a team's success when awarding penalties. Using video footage (similar to video assistant referees), an expert panel (EP) of four NPL referees evaluated all potential penalty situations (N = 43) involving either of two successful teams during an entire NPL season. Fifty-five potential penalty situations from matches without successful teams were also rated. Overall, the match referees identified 73.3% (22 of 30) of …

Unilateral Maximal Isometric Hex Bar Pull Test: Within-Session Reliability and Lower Body Force Production in Male and Female Freeski Athletes

2021

The aim of the study was to (1) assess the within-session reliability of a unilateral isometric hex bar pull (UIHBP) maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) test and, (2) determine unilateral isometric absolute peak force (PFabs) and relative peak force (PF) values in freeski athletes. Twenty-one male and eight female academy to national team freeskiers performed the novel UIHBP MVC task on a force plate and PFabs and relative PF were assessed (1000 Hz). Within-session measures of PFabs offered high reliability on left and right limbs for males (ICC = 0.91–0.94, CV = 2.6–2.2%) and females (ICC = 0.94–0.94, CV = 1.4–1.6%), while relative PF measures showed good to high reliability in both left a…

Possible influence of Zoophycos bioturbation on radiocarbon dating and environmental interpretation

2002

Abstract In paleoenvironmental studies of marine sediments bioturbation is often neglected and/or only treated as a diffusion-like process affecting only the uppermost sediment with decreasing intensity with depth. Deep dwelling animals, like the Zoophycos producing animal, however, affect the sediment composition by transporting material over vertical distances of up to 1 m below the seafloor. In Arabian Sea sediment cores 70KL, 64KL and 57KL a significant downward transport of particles by Zoophycos can be observed. Within the Zoophycos burrows the faunal composition of both planktonic and benthic foraminiferal assemblages as well as the isotopic signature of foraminiferal carbonate diffe…

Using game elements to increase students’ motivation for providing peer assistance

2017

Master's thesis Multimedia and Educational Technology MM500 - University of Agder 2017 Abstract Peer assistance is a support system where people of equal status help each other solve problems. It is also a recognized method within education where students support each other with their assignments. The positive effect of peer assistance is well known, and it would be favorable if more students participated and took on the role as peer-teachers. To increase the activity of peer assistance, several incentives can be used, including game elements. In “Using game elements to increase peer assistance among university students”, (Nordengen & Brinch, 2016, p. 1) tried to predict which game elements…

Simulated Game-Based Ice Hockey Match Design (Scrimmage) Elicits Greater Intensity in External Load Parameters Compared With Official Matches.

2022

ObjectiveA limited number of studies have explored the external load experienced in indoor sports such as ice hockey, and few the link between training and match performance. As a paucity exists within this topic, this study explored whether a simulated match design (i.e., scrimmage) could be representative of official match demands and elicit similar external loads as in official matches in a group of elite youth male ice hockey players.MethodsA total of 26 players were monitored during eight official and four simulation matches using a Local Positioning System. Total distance, max velocity, slow (0–10.9 km/h), moderate (11–16.9 km/h), high (17.0–23.9 km/h), and sprint (>24 km/h) sp…

Industrial Robot Collision Handling in Harsh Environments

2014

Doktorgradsavhandling i mekatronikk, Universitetet i Agder, 2014 The focus in this thesis is on robot collision handling systems, mainly collision detection and collision avoidance for industrial robots operating in harsh environments (e.g. potentially explosive atmospheres found in the oil and gas sector). Collision detection should prevent the robot from colliding and therefore avoid a potential accident. Collision avoidance builds on the concept of collision detection and aims at enabling the robot to find a collision free path circumventing the obstacle and leading to the goal position. The work has been done in collaboration with ABB Process Automation Division with focus on applicatio…

On the formation of laminated sediments on the continental margin off Pakistan: the effects of sediment provenance and sediment redistribution

2001

Abstract The sedimentary processes and sediment sources contributing to the formation of laminated sediments along the upper slope off Pakistan are unravelled using inorganic bulk sediment geochemistry of 43 surface cores from the Pakistani continental margin and additional geochemical and Pb and Nd-isotope data for different types of layers. An important process everywhere along the margin is redeposition of fluvial-derived detritus from the shelf onto the slope. This process is of considerably higher intensity along the Makran margin than on the Indus margin. Trace element enrichment related to early diagenesis or surface productivity, which is commonly detectable in bulk sediment composi…
