Optical Imaging and Spectroscopy of Atomically Precise Armchair Graphene Nanoribbons
2019
We report the optical imaging and absorption spectroscopy on atomically precise armchair graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) on insulating fused silica substrates. This is achieved by controlling light polarization on macroscopically aligned GNRs which greatly enhances the optical contrast of the submonolayer GNRs on the insulating substrates. We measure the linear absorption spectra of 7-armchair and 9-armchair GNRs in this study, and the experimental data agree qualitatively with ab inito calculation results. The polarization spectroscopy technique enables an unambiguous optical identification of GNRs and provides a rapid tool to characterize the transferred film over a large area.
Eivinas’ Visigothic Bezel
2019
This paper presents the bezel of a Visigothic ring of unknown origin and probably dated in the 7th century. The bezel contains a single name: eivinas, possibly the first epigraphic testimony of a Baltic, or more specifically Prussian name. Humanidades
Dynamic Output Feedback Passive Control of Uncertain Switched Stochastic Systems with Time-Varying Delay
2013
Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from Hindawi: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/281747 Open Access This paper is concerned with the issues of passivity analysis and dynamic output feedback (DOF) passive control for uncertain switched stochastic systems with time-varying delay via multiple storage functions (MSFs) method. Firstly, based on the MSFs method, a sufficient condition for the existence of the passivity of the underlying system is established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Furthermore, the problem of dynamic output feedback passive control is investigated. Based on the obtained passivity condition, a …
The cytoplasmic PASC domain of the sensor kinase DcuS of Escherichia coli : role in signal transduction, dimer formation, and DctA interaction
2013
The cytoplasmic PAS(C) domain of the fumarate responsive sensor kinase DcuS of Escherichia coli links the transmembrane to the kinase domain. PAS(C) is also required for interaction with the transporter DctA serving as a cosensor of DcuS. Earlier studies suggested that PAS(C) functions as a hinge and transmits the signal to the kinase. Reorganizing the PAS(C) dimer interaction and, independently, removal of DctA, converts DcuS to the constitutive ON state (active without fumarate stimulation). ON mutants were categorized with respect to these two biophysical interactions and the functional state of DcuS: type I-ON mutations grossly reorganize the homodimer, and decrease interaction with Dct…
Pediatric Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Treatment (PEPSiT) in Children With Pilonidal Sinus Disease: Tips and Tricks and New Structurated Protocol
2020
Background: The advent of pediatric endoscopic pilonidal sinus treatment (PEPSiT) has dramatically changed the surgical management of pilonidal sinus disease (PSD) in children and adolescents. This study aimed to report the outcome of our new structurated protocol, including PEPSiT, laser epilation, and oxygen-enriched oil-based gel dressing, for treatment of PSD in pediatric patients and describe tips and tricks of the technique. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the data of 127 pediatric patients, who underwent PEPSiT for PSD in our institutions over a 36-month period. All patients received laser epilation (LE) before and after surgery. Post-operative dressing was performed using silve…
“Phraseological fossils”: morphology of "fossil words" as idiomatic words in Spanish idioms
2020
[EN] The objective of this paper is to offer an analysis of the morphology of the kind of idiomatic word…
Paradigma de la Continuidad Paleomítica
2020
The increasing evidence of myths with a Paleolithic origin represents an indirect support for the main claims of the so–called Paleolithic Continuity Paradigm, since it assumes a Paleolithic origin for the whole Indo–European linguistic group and, furthermore, for all or most of the other major linguistic groups of the world. Myoglobin, expressed in brown adipose tissue of mice, regulates the content and activity of mitochondria and lipid droplets
2021
Abstract The identification of novel physiological regulators that stimulate energy expenditure through brown adipose tissue (BAT) activity in substrate catalysis is of utmost importance to understand and treat metabolic diseases. Myoglobin (MB), known to store or transport oxygen in heart and skeletal muscles, has recently been found to bind fatty acids with physiological constants in its oxygenated form (i.e., MBO2). Here, we investigated the in vivo effect of MB expression on BAT activity. In particular, we studied mitochondrial function and lipid metabolism as essential determinants of energy expenditure in this tissue. We show in a MB-null (MBko) mouse model that MB expression in BAT i…
