H∞ filter design for a class of nonlinear neutral systems with time-varying delays

2009

Accepted version of an article from the journal: Nonlinear Dynamics and Systems Theory. Also available from the publisher: http://www.e-ndst.kiev.ua/v9n3.htm In this note, the problem of H∞ filtering for a class of nonlinear neutral systems with delayed states and outputs is investigated. By introducing a descriptor technique, using Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and a suitable change of variables, new required sufficient conditions are established in terms of delay-dependent linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) for the existence of the desired H∞ filters. The explicit expression of the filters is derived to satisfy both asymptotic stability and a prescribed level of disturbance attenuation fo…

Robust H∞ dynamic output feedback control synthesis with pole placement constraints for offshore wind turbine systems

2012

Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher:http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/616507 The problem of robust ∞ dynamic output feedback control design with pole placement constraints is studied for a linear parameter-varying model of a floating wind turbine. A nonlinear model is obtained and linearized using the FAST software developed for wind turbines. The main contributions of this paper are threefold. Firstly, a family of linear models are represented based on an affine parameter-varying model structure for a wind turbine system. Secondly, the bounded parameter-varying parameters are removed using upper bounded ineq…

H∞ control of Markovian switching systems with time-delays: Applied to DC-DC converters

2011

Author's version of a chapter in the book: 37th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society - IECON 2011. Also available from the publisher at: http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=6119884 The DC-DC switching power converters are highly nonlinear systems. Consequently, the conventional linear controls based on averaging and linearization techniques will result in poor dynamic performance or system instability. In order to resolve this problem, in this paper a robust state feedback H∞ control is proposed for these systems under Markovian switching with mixed discrete, neutral and distributed delays. Based on the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional theory, some …

Vibration control of base-isolated structures using mixed H-2/H-infinity output-feedback control

2009

Published post-print of an article in the journal: Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part I: Journal of Systems and Control Engineering Available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1243/09596518jsce730 A mixed H-2/H-infinity output-feedback control design methodology for vibration reduction of base-isolated building structures modelled in the form of second-order linear systems is presented. Sufficient conditions for the design of a desired control are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities. A controller that guarantees asymptotic stability and a mixed H-2/H-infinity performance for the closed-loop system of the structure is developed, based on a Lyapuno…

H-infinity control for networked control systems with time delays and packet dropouts

2013

Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from Hindawi: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/635941 This paper is concerned with the H-infinity control issue for a class of networked control systems (NCSs) with packet dropouts and time-varying delays. Firstly, the addressed NCS is modeled as a Markovian discrete-time switched system with two subsystems; by using the average dwell time method, a sufficient condition is obtained for the mean square exponential stability of the closed-loop NCS with a desired H-infinity disturbance attenuation level. Then, the desired H-infinity controller is obtained by solving a set of linear matrix inequ…

Delay-dependent stability analysis for large scale production networks of autonomous work systems

2010

Published version of av article from the journal: Nonlinear dynamics and systems theory. Also available fro the publisher:http://www.e-ndst.kiev.ua/v10n1.htm This paper considers the problem of stability analysis for a class of production networks of autonomous work systems with delays in the capacity changes. The system under consideration does not share information between work systems and the work systems adjust capacity with the objective of maintaining a desired amount of local work in progress (WIP). Attention is focused to derive explicit sufficient delay-dependent stability conditions for the network using properties of matrix norm. Finally, numerical results are provided to demonst…

Delay-dependent H-infinity control for networked control systems with large delays

2013

Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from Hindawi: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/643174 We consider the problems of robust stability and H-infinity control for a class of networked control systems with long-time delays. Firstly, a nonlinear discrete time model with mode-dependent time delays is proposed by converting the uncertainty of time delay into the uncertainty of parameter matrices. We consider a probabilistic case where the system is switched among different subsystems, and the probability of each subsystem being active is defined as its occurrence probability. For a switched system with a known subsystem occurrence …

Vibration control of a base-isolated building using wavelets

2011

Author's version of a chapter in the book: Proceedings of the 18th IFAC World Congress 2011. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.3182/20110828-6-IT-1002.03169 This paper proposes a numerical approach for finding an optimal control based on wavelet functions for vibration reduction of a base-isolated building subjected to actual earthquakes. The objective is two-fold: (1) to find a computational method using properties of Haar functions, and (2) to calculate controller gains approximately by solving only algebraic equations instead of solving the Riccati differential. Simulation results are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the technique.

The performance investigation of viscoelastic hybrid models in vehicle crash event representation

2011

Aurthor's version of a chapter published in the book: Proceedings of the 18th IFAC World Congress 2011. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.3182/20110828-6-IT-1002.00284 This paper presents application of physical models composed of springs, dampers and masses joined together in various arrangements to simulation of a real car collision with a rigid pole. Equations of motion of those systems are being established and subsequently solutions to obtained differential equations are formulated. We start with a general model consisting of two masses, two springs, and two dampers, and illustrate its application to represent fore-frame and aft-frame of a vehicle. Hybrid model…
