Development and Testing of Web GUI Application for the LHCb VELO Data Quality Monitoring System
2014
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi IKT590 Universitetet i Agder 2013 A great interest of IT engineers at CERN is to simplify the access to the Data Quality Monitoring(DQM) applications that usually lay behind several layers of security firewalls. In order to makeit simple and thus help to save time for the scientist who rely on this data, additional applicationfor the Web had to be developed and tested. The goal of this thesis work was to developsuch a Web DQM application for CERN. First, a Web Graphical User Interface (GUI) wasdeveloped. In parallel, an Apache server was installed and configured for testing. Moreover, software program called ROOTJS that processes and d…
On the Potential of Emerging Learning Technology Standards and Specifications to Enhance Learning Experience
2016
Master's thesis in Information- and communication technology IKT590 - University of Agder 2016 Emerging educational technologies had a significant impact on the learning environment. Nowadays, classrooms are no longer as simple as it used to be, like using chalks and blackboards. Lots of technologies (e.g. video projectors, electronic boards) have been integrated to learning environments to better support students and teachers. eLearning is one the technologies that provided virtual classrooms environments on the Web. eLearning helped teachers and students to have a better control over courses and learning process respectively. In this thesis, I had an investigation on the potential of some…

Ontology-based clinical decision support system applied on diabetes
2017
Master's thesis Information- and communication technology IKT590 - University of Agder 2017 Medical diagnosis is a multi-step process which is complex as it requires the consideration of many factors. Additionally, the accuracy of diagnosis varies depending on the skill and knowledge a physician has in the medical field. Using ICT solution, the physicians can be assisted so that they can make an accurate decision. Many applications have been developed to enhance physician performance and improve the patient outcome, however, the quality of these applications varies depending on knowledge representation methodology and reasoning approach adopted. Nowadays, ontology is being used in many clin…
Using AI and Robotics for EV battery cable detection.: Development and implementation of end-to-end model-free 3D instance segmentation for industria…
2021
Master's thesis in Information- and communication technology (IKT590) This thesis describes a novel method for capturing point clouds and segmenting instances of cabling found on electric vehicle battery packs. The use of cutting-edge perception algorithm architectures, such as graph-based and voxel-based convolution, in industrial autonomous lithium-ion battery pack disassembly is being investigated. The thesis focuses on the challenge of getting a desirable representation of any battery pack using an ABB robot in conjunction with a high-end structured light camera, with "end-to-end" and "model-free" as design constraints. The thesis employs self-captured datasets comprised of several batt…
Learning Automata based Shiftable Domestic Load Scheduling in Smart Grid: Accuracy and Fairness
2016
Master's thesis in Information- and communication technology IKT590 - University of Agder 2016 In this thesis, investigation is carried out on scheduling of shiftable loads which involves partly selection of loads within the power budget of operator. Domestic shiftable loads are scheduled along multiple timeslots with the considerations of the accuracy of scheduling in terms of optimization of capacity and of the fairness between appliances in terms of frequency of usage in smart grids. Since the scheduled load can not be over the capacity, the global optimal point is a combination of loads which are most close or equal to but not over the capacity. This optimization problem is shown to be …
Relevance- and Aggregation-based Scheduling for Data Transmission in IEEE 802.15.4e IoT Networks
2017
Master's thesis Information- and communication technology IKT590 - University of Agder 2017 Internet of thing (IoT) is regarded as a new communicating paradigm with Internet connectivity enabling embedded devices to interact with each other on a global scale. IoT has the potential to become the largest producer of information because of a massive number of connected devices with diverse applications ranging from environmental monitoring, home, and building automation. This ubiquitous connectivity requires reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of access to information. As an enabling technology, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have opened new opportunity with recent technological devel…
Convolutional architectures for virtual screening
2020
Abstract Background A Virtual Screening algorithm has to adapt to the different stages of this process. Early screening needs to ensure that all bioactive compounds are ranked in the first positions despite of the number of false positives, while a second screening round is aimed at increasing the prediction accuracy. Results A novel CNN architecture is presented to this aim, which predicts bioactivity of candidate compounds on CDK1 using a combination of molecular fingerprints as their vector representation, and has been trained suitably to achieve good results as regards both enrichment factor and accuracy in different screening modes (98.55% accuracy in active-only selection, and 98.88% …
