Fundamental Analysis of Triple Layer Area Decoupled Photovoltaic Modules

2015

Masteroppgave fornybar energi- Universitetet i Agder, 2015 The main objective of this work is to analyse the area decoupled triple layer photovoltaic module, by application of voltage matching under AM 1.5 light spectrum. This includes, calculation of detailed balance efficiency, calculation of optimal numbers of cells in each layer to achieve voltage matching comparisons with independently operated triple layer stack. Performance change under various different scenario is also observed. We have used MatLab programing software for all our analysis i.e., plots and calculations. At first we investigated the optimal efficiency of independently operated cells of triple layer stack. Then applyin…

Development and Electrochemical Evaluation of Tape Cast Substrates for SOFC Single Cells

2013

Masteroppgave fornybar energi- Universitetet i Agder, 2013 As a means to reduce the solid oxide fuel cell material cost and make it more adapted to other fuels, titania as a candidate catalyst material has been investigated. A low-cost, high precision, self made tape casting system made it possible to fabricate thin films by the tape casting method. Substrates for SOFC single cells were manufactured through experimentation and optimization of slurry recipes for tape casting. The produced substrates were micro-structural analyzed by using an AFM, and evaluated with the use of EIS. The study shows that it is possible to fabricate standalone titania substrates. And the structural analysis and …

Impact of High Penetration of Electric Vehicles on Low Voltage Network Stability and Role of Managment Programmes for Electric Vehicle Charging

2015

Masteroppgave fornybar energi- Universitetet i Agder, 2015 The number of electric vehicles (EVs) have increased in Norway over the last couple of years. Low emissions and reducing petroleum dependence are some of the advantages achieved by using EVs. This master thesis presents the impact of high penetration of EVs on a low voltage distribution network. Uncontrolled charging patterns of EVs will likely stress the distribution network and could cause power outages, voltage fluctuations, thermal stress on the lines and harmonic pollution. As an alternative to grid reinforcement, smart load management (SLM) and demand side management (DSM) were introduced for coordinating the charging of large…

Analysis of Power System Options for Rural Electrification in Rwanda

2015

Masteroppgave fornybar energi- Universitetet i Agder, 2015 The development of modernized energy system for developing countries especially in rural areas is constantly a considerable problem to energy utilities. The progressive use of diesel generators in rural areas as main source of electrification is continuously becoming unsuitable because of the following reasons; the diesel generator requires the fuel at every single second of operation and the maintenance of every time is needed and it is very important to worry about the instability of power generated by those generators and the accessibility of fossil fuels is still a challenge for some communities. Whereas the introduction of new …

Multilevel Inverters with Reduced Component Count for Energy Systems

2021

Paper VI is excluded from the dissertation until it will be published. Multilevel inverters (MLIs) have gained increasing interest for advanced energy-conversion systems with a wide range of voltage levels, due to their attractive features of low harmonic contents, low dv/dt stress, low filtering requirements, low switching frequency, low electromagnetic interference (EMI), and employing low-rated semiconductor devices for producing high voltages. Further, some MLIs have a modularity feature, facilitating voltage and current scalability with high redundancy in switching states, allowing for fault-tolerant operations. The mentioned features are directly related to the number of generated vol…

Autonomous Demand Side Management of Electric Vehicles

2023

There is an error in the table of content, where publication A and B have swiched places. Demand-side management approaches that exploit the temporal flexibility of electric vehicles have attracted much attention in recent years due to the increasing market penetration. These demand-side management measures contribute to alleviating the burden on the power system, especially in distribution grids where bottlenecks are more prevalent. Electric vehicles can be defined as an attractive asset for distribution system operators, which have the potential to provide grid services if properly managed. In this thesis, first, a systematic investigation is conducted for two typically employed demand-si…

VEGF-B-induced vascular growth leads to metabolic reprogramming and ischemia resistance in the heart

2014

Abstract Angiogenic growth factors have recently been linked to tissue metabolism. We have used genetic gain‐ and loss‐of function models to elucidate the effects and mechanisms of action of vascular endothelial growth factor‐B (VEGF‐B) in the heart. A cardiomyocyte‐specific VEGF‐B transgene induced an expanded coronary arterial tree and reprogramming of cardiomyocyte metabolism. This was associated with protection against myocardial infarction and preservation of mitochondrial complex I function upon ischemia‐reperfusion. VEGF‐B increased VEGF signals via VEGF receptor‐2 to activate Erk1/2, which resulted in vascular growth. Akt and mTORC1 pathways were upregulated and AMPK downregulated, …

In Vivo Modulation of Angiogenesis and Immune Response on a Collagen Matrix via Extracorporeal Shockwaves

2020

The effective management of tissue integration and immunological responses to transplants decisively co-determines the success of soft and hard tissue reconstruction. The aim of this in vivo study was to evaluate the eligibility of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) with respect to its ability to modulate angiogenesis and immune response to a collagen matrix (CM) for tissue engineering in the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay, which is performed with fertilized chicken eggs. CM were placed on the CAM on embryonic development day (EDD) 7

A critical role for VEGF and VEGFR2 in NMDA receptor synaptic function and fear-related behavior

2016

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is known to be required for the action of antidepressant therapies but its impact on brain synaptic function is poorly characterized. Using a combination of electrophysiological, single-molecule imaging and conditional transgenic approaches, we identified the molecular basis of the VEGF effect on synaptic transmission and plasticity. VEGF increases the postsynaptic responses mediated by the N-methyl-D-aspartate type of glutamate receptors (GluNRs) in hippocampal neurons. This is concurrent with the formation of new synapses and with the synaptic recruitment of GluNR expressing the GluN2B subunit (GluNR-2B). VEGF induces a rapid redistribution of Glu…

The impact of intercellular communication for the generation of complex multicellular prevascularized tissue equivalents

2019

In reconstructive surgery the use of prevascularized soft tissue equivalents is a promising approach for wound coverage of defects after tumor resection or trauma. However, in previous studies to generate soft tissue equivalents on collagen membranes, microcapillaries were restricted to superficial areas. In this study, to understand which factors were involved in the formation of these microcapillaries, the levels of the angiogenic factors vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), Interleukin-8 (IL-8), and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in the supernatants of the tissue equivalents were examined at various time points and conditions. Additionally, the influence of these factors on …
