Refrigeration bound of heat-producing cylinders by superfluid helium
2019
In this paper we go ahead in our studies on refrigeration of nanosystems by superfluid helium, as an appealing subject for future applications to computers or astronautical precision nanodevices. We first recall the effective thermal conductivity in laminar counterflow superfluid helium through arrays of mutually parallel cylinders and we discuss the conditions for the appearance of quantum turbulence around the heat-producing cylinders. We then consider the cooling of an array of heat-producing cylindrical nanosystems by means of superfluid-helium counterflow. We discuss the upper bound on heat removal set by avoidance of quantum turbulence and avoidance of phase transition to normal He I,…
A new control parameter to predict micro-warping-induced job failure in LPBF of TI6AL4V titanium alloy
2023
Abstract Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) includes a few printing techniques widely used, in recent years, concerning the additive manufacturing of Ti6Al4V alloys. These produced parts, typically utilized in sectors such as aerospace and biomedical, are characterized by very high added value. It is therefore fundamental to identify the influence of process parameters typical of LPBF technology on the occurrence of warping leading to process failure. This study deals with the characterization of single-track and “micro-scale” level warping phenomena which may lead to protrusion of material over the powder bed and process failure before normal termination. This phenomenon was investigated as a …
Convergence for varying measures
2023
Some limit theorems of the type $\int_{\Omega}f_n dm_n -- --> \int_{\Omega}f dm$ are presented for scalar, (vector), (multi)-valued sequences of m_n-integrable functions f_n. The convergences obtained, in the vector and multivalued settings, are in the weak or in the strong sense.
A functional variant of the serotonin transporter gene (SLC6A4) moderates impulsive choice in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder boys and sibli…
2011
Item does not contain fulltext BACKGROUND: Impulsive drive for immediate reward (IDIR) and delay aversion are dissociable elements of the preference for immediate over delayed rewards seen in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). We hypothesized that IDIR would be associated with dopamine regulating genes and delay aversion would be associated with serotonin-regulating genes. METHODS: Impulsive drive for immediate reward and delay aversion were measured in 459 male children and adolescents (328 ADHD and 131 unaffected siblings) with a laboratory choice task. The sample was genotyped for the 5HTT (SLC6A4) promoter serotonin-transporter-linked polymorphic region polymorphism and a …
Multi-integrals of finite variation
2020
The aim of this paper is to investigate different types of multi-integrals of finite variation and to obtain decomposition results.
Pattern formation in clouds via Turing instabilities
2020
Pattern formation in clouds is a well-known feature, which can be observed almost every day. However, the guiding processes for structure formation are mostly unknown, and also theoretical investigations of cloud patterns are quite rare. From many scientific disciplines the occurrence of patterns in non-equilibrium systems due to Turing instabilities is known, i.e. unstable modes grow and form spatial structures. In this study we investigate a generic cloud model for the possibility of Turing instabilities. For this purpose, the model is extended by diffusion terms. We can show that for some cloud models, i.e special cases of the generic model, no Turing instabilities are possible. However,…
On the existence of weak solution to the coupled fluid-structure interaction problem for non-Newtonian shear-dependent fluid
2016
We study the existence of weak solution for unsteady fluid-structure interaction problem for shear-thickening flow. The time dependent domain has at one part a flexible elastic wall. The evolution of fluid domain is governed by the generalized string equation with action of the fluid forces. The power-law viscosity model is applied to describe shear-dependent non-Newtonian fluids.
$(BV,L^p)$-decomposition, $p=1,2$, of Functions in Metric Random Walk Spaces
2019
In this paper we study the $(BV,L^p)$-decomposition, $p=1,2$, of functions in metric random walk spaces, a general workspace that includes weighted graphs and nonlocal models used in image processing. We obtain the Euler-Lagrange equations of the corresponding variational problems and their gradient flows. In the case $p=1$ we also study the associated geometric problem and the thresholding parameters.
A Structural Theorem for Metric Space Valued Mappings of Φ-bounded Variation
2009
In this paper we introduce the notion of $\Phi$-bounded variation for metric space valued mappings defined on a subset of the real line. Such a notion generalizes the one for real functions introduced by M. Schramm, and many previous generalized variations. We prove a structural theorem for mappings of $\Phi$-bounded variation. As an application we show that each mapping of $\Phi$-bounded variation defined on a subset of $\mathbb{R}$ possesses a $\Phi$-variation preserving extension to the whole real line.
A Note on Algebraic Sums of Subsets of the Real Line
2002
AbstractWe investigate the algebraic sums of sets for a large class of invari-ant ˙-ideals and ˙- elds of subsets of the real line. We give a simpleexample of two Borel subsets of the real line such that its algebraicsum is not a Borel set. Next we show a similar result to Proposition 2from A. Kharazishvili paper [4]. Our results are obtained for ideals withcoanalytical bases. 1 Introduction We shall work in ZFC set theory. By !we denote natural numbers. By 4wedenote the symmetric di erence of sets. The cardinality of a set Xwe denoteby jXj. By R we denote the real line and by Q we denote rational numbers. IfAand Bare subsets of R n and b2R , then A+B= fa+b: a2A^b2Bgand A+ b= A+ fbg. Simila…
