Analytical model for the long- distance tracer-transport in plants

2011

International audience; Recent investigations of long-distance transport in plants using non-invasive tracer techniques such as C radiolabeling monitored by positron emission tomography (PET) combined with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed the need of dedicated methods to allow a quantitative data analysis and comparison of such experiments. A mechanistic compartmental tracer transport model is presented, defined by a linear system of partial differential equations (PDEs). This model simplifies the complexity of axial transport and lateral exchanges in the transport pathways of plants (e.g. the phloem) by simulating transport and reversible exchange within three compartments using j…

Isolation and Culture of Oligodendrocytes

2019

Primary cultures of brain-derived rodent cells are widely used to study molecular and cellular mechanisms in neurobiology. In this chapter, we describe methods of purifying and culturing oligodendroglial cells from mouse perinatal brains. In addition, we describe methods of coculturing the purified oligodendrocytes with neurons. When prepared and cultured according to these protocols, many essential aspects of the biology of oligodendrocytes, such as their proliferation, differentiation, and myelination, can be studied in culture.

Isolation and characterization of nuclear microsatellite loci in the northern shrimp, Pandalus borealis

2012

Published version of an article published in the journal: Conservation Genetics Resources. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s12686-011-9486-4 We developed and characterized 20 microsatellite primer loci for the northern shrimp Pandalus borealis. All 20 loci were polymorphic with number of alleles ranging from 3 to 36 and with observed heterozygosity between 0.04 and 0.93. In addition, we tested the utility of these markers in three related shrimp species, P. montagui, Atlantopandalus propinqvus and Dichelopandalus bonnieri. These new markers will prove useful in the identification of stock structure and hence, assessment of the commercially important species P…

Bedrock and soil geochemistry influence the content of chemical elements in wild edible mushrooms (Morchella group) from South Italy (Sicily)

2019

Chemical elements in the samples of wild edible mushrooms of the Morchella group collected from different unpolluted Sicilian sites was analyzed by the ICP-MS (method) to detect the content of their minerals and determine whether soil geology and geochemistry can influence the chemical composition in fungi. Results showed that the mushroom samples mainly contained a high concentration of K and P and a wide variety of minor and trace elements (V, Mo, Pb, Ce, Cs, Zr), including heavy metals. Statistical analysis showed that the mushrooms differed in their content of minor and trace elements based on the geological/geographic site of origin. Comparison with other studies s…

Effects of Minimalist Footwear and Foot Strike Patterns on Plantar Pressure during a Prolonged Running

2022

The use of minimalist shoes (MS) in running involves changes in running mechanics compared to conventional shoes (CS), but there is still little research analysing the effects of this footwear on plantar pressure, which could help to understand some risk injury factors. Moreover, there are no studies examining the effects of a prolonged running and foot strike patterns on baropodometric variables in MS. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyse the changes produced using MS on plantar pressure during a prolonged running, as well as its interaction with the time and foot strike pattern. Twenty-one experienced minimalist runners (age 38 ± 10 years, MS running experience 2 ± 1 years) ran…

Kulturell kompetanse i hjemmetjenesten

2019

Masteroppgave klinisk helsevitenskap ME520 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 Introduction:The increase in the number of non-ethnic Norwegian patients in home care has led to the need for cultural competence in the home nurse. Lack of cultural competence in the home nurse can and has created challenges such as discrimination, poor health service and communication with these patients. The purpose of this study is toexamine the cultural competenceof home nurses in district in South Norway. The researchquestion: What cultural competence do home nurses have when tending to patients of minority ethnicities? Methods:Descriptive cross-section study was carried out on the present study. For data collection…

“Things that matter most must never be at the mercy of things that matter least” : En kvantitativ studie av psykiske helseplager blant ungdom i Norge…

2018

Masteroppgave psykisk helsearbeid ME504 - Universitetet i Agder 2018 This master thesis has been developed in collaboration between Bente Melbøe Hokland and Majbritt Legind Hersel. Throughout our education we have often discussed a common wonder about youths; why someone is doing well in life while others do not. The master thesis gave us the opportunity to conduct a quantitative survey where we through Ungdata have investigated how many young people who indicate to struggle with depressive ailments and how this is distributed among the sexes. The figures are from 2015. After mapping the scope, the purpose is to investigate which factors may be associated with the experience of depression a…
