STRUCTURE AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE RURAL TOURISM NETWORK „BIENVENUE A LA FERME”
2014
This paper presents the main rural tourism networks in France and the forms of rural tourism encountered in this country. In the data presented lies a bibliographic study on the development of rural tourism network "Bienvenue a la ferme" between 1996 and 2013. Data analysis presented highlights rural tourism forms with the most dynamic development in the period considered, given that France is the first European country where the level of organization, diversification and promotion of rural tourism took place.
Cassava starch processing at small scale in North Vietnam
2008
International audience; In Northern Vietnam, small-scale cassava starch processing is conducted in densely populated craft villages, where processors face difficulties to expand their activities. Three different processing systems were studied among a cluster of three communes in the Red River Delta, producing up to 430 t of starch (at 55% dry matter) per day. The first system, type A, is a cylindrical rasper and a manual sieve, the second, type B, is a cylindrical rasper and stirring-filtering machine and the third, type C, used equipment for both the rasping and filtering stages. Moisture, starch, crude fibers and ash content analysis were carried out on samples collected from the A-B-C m…
Sparse Deconvolution Using Support Vector Machines
2008
Sparse deconvolution is a classical subject in digital signal processing, having many practical applications. Support vector machine (SVM) algorithms show a series of characteristics, such as sparse solutions and implicit regularization, which make them attractive for solving sparse deconvolution problems. Here, a sparse deconvolution algorithm based on the SVM framework for signal processing is presented and analyzed, including comparative evaluations of its performance from the points of view of estimation and detection capabilities, and of robustness with respect to non-Gaussian additive noise. Unrecognised cardiovascular disease in type 2 diabetes: is it time to act earlier?
2018
Abstract Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the most significant prognostic factor in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, a significant number of individuals may develop CVD that does not present with the classic angina-related or heart failure symptoms. In these cases, CVD may seem to be ‘silent’ or ‘asymptomatic’, but may be more accurately characterised as unrecognised diabetic cardiac impairment. An initial step to raise awareness of unrecognised CVD in individuals with T2D would be to reach a consensus regarding the terminology used to describe this phenomenon. By standardising the terminologies, and agreeing on the implementation of an efficient screening program, it is anti…
Potential and limitations of PKA/ PKG inhibitors for platelet studies
2021
Cyclic nucleotides (cAMP and cGMP) and corresponding protein kinases, protein kinase A (PKA) and protein kinase G (PKG), are the main intracellular mediators of endothelium-derived platelet inhibitors. Pharmacological PKA/PKG inhibitors are often used to discriminate between these two kinase activities and to analyze their underlying mechanisms. Previously we showed that all widely used PKG inhibitors (KT5823, DT3, RP isomers) either did not inhibit PKG or inhibited and even activated platelets independently from PKG. In this study, we examined several PKA inhibitors as well as inhibitors of adenylate and guanylate cyclases to reveal their effects on platelets and establish whether they are…
A peptide from the staphylococcal protein Efb binds P‐selectin and inhibits the interaction of platelets with leukocytes
2022
AimsP-selectin is a key surface adhesion molecule for the interaction of platelets with leukocytes. We have shown previously that the N-terminal domain of S. aureus extracellular fibrinogen-binding protein (Efb) binds to P-selectin and interferes with platelet-leukocyte aggregate formation. Here, we aimed to identify the minimal Efb motif required for binding platelets and to characterise its ability to interfering with the formation of platelet-leukocyte aggregates. Methods and ResultsUsing a library of synthetic peptides, we mapped the platelet-binding site to a continuous 20 amino acid stretch. The peptide Efb68-87 was able to bind to resting and, to a greater extent, thrombin-stimulated …
