Effect of Pulp Pigmentation Intensity on Consumer Acceptance of New Blood Mandarins: A Cross-Cultural Study in Spain and Italy

One of the current objectives of different citrus breeding programmes is obtaining new pigmented mandarins. This study investigates to what extent consumer preferences, expectations and purchase intention are affected by the appearance of new mandarins, specifically pulp pigmentation intensity. Four hundred consumers from both Italy and Spain (800 in all) participated in the study. In each country, half were informed about the healthy properties of the anthocyanins responsible for red pulp colouration, while the other half were not. Beyond Tandem Analysis: Joint Dimension Reduction and Clustering in R

We present the R package clustrd which implements a class of methods that combine dimension reduction and clustering of continuous or categorical data. In particular, for continuous data, the package contains implementations of factorial K-means and reduced K-means; both methods combine principal component analysis with K-means clustering. For categorical data, the package provides MCA K-means, i-FCB and cluster correspondence analysis, which combine multiple correspondence analysis with K-means. Two examples on real data sets are provided to illustrate the usage of the main functions.

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) development is commonly associated with acetaminophen (APAP) overdose, where glutathione scavenging leads to mitochondrial dysfunction and hepatocyte death. DILI is a severe disorder without effective late-stage treatment, since N-acetyl cysteine must be administered 8 h after overdose to be efficient. Ammonia homeostasis is altered during liver diseases and, during DILI, it is accompanied by decreased glycine N-methyltransferase (GNMT) expression and S-adenosylmethionine (AdoMet) levels that suggest a reduced methionine cycle. Evolution of impatience: The example of the Farmer-Sheriff game

The literature on the evolution of impatience, focusing on one-person decision problems, often finds that evolutionary forces favor the more patient individuals. This paper shows that in games where equilibrium involves threat of punishment there are forces generating an evolutionary advantage to the impatient. In particular, it offers a two-population example where evolutionary forces favor impatience in one group while favoring patience in the other. A main problem for socially responsible investors is deciding which companies should be included in their investment portfolio. Small investors may decide not to invest in companies they know are not behaving responsibly. Therefore, discredited companies will not be included in their portfolios, as they will understand those companies cannot be defined as ethical. To implement this procedure properly and apply it to big portfolios is a complex exercise which requires big amounts of information and the problems faced by investors applying such exclusion criteria to select their portfolio.
