Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials and Individual Patient Data Comparing Minimally Invasive With Open Oesophagectomy for Cancer
2021
Minimally invasive oesophagectomy (MIO) for oesophageal cancer may reduce surgical complications compared with open oesophagectomy. MIO is, however, technically challenging and may impair optimal oncological resection. The aim of the present study was to assess if MIO for cancer is beneficial.A systematic literature search in MEDLINE, Web of Science and CENTRAL was performed and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing MIO with open oesophagectomy were included in a meta-analysis. Survival was analysed using individual patient data. Random-effects model was used for pooled estimates of perioperative effects.Among 3219 articles, six RCTs were identified including 822 patients. Three-yea…
Machine Perfusions in Liver Transplantation: The Evidence‐Based Position Paper of the Italian Society of Organ and Tissue Transplantation
2020
The use of machine perfusion (MP) in liver transplantation (LT) is spreading worldwide. However, its efficacy has not been demonstrated, and its proper clinical use has far to go to be widely implemented. The Società Italiana Trapianti d’Organo (SITO) promoted the development of an evidence-based position paper. A 3-step approach has been adopted to develop this position paper. First, SITO appointed a chair and a cochair who then assembled a working group with specific experience of MP in LT. The Guideline Development Group framed the clinical questions into a patient, intervention, control, and outcome (PICO) format, extracted and analyzed the available literature, ranked the quality of th…
Classification of Chimney EVAR-Related Endoleaks: Insights from the PERICLES Registry
2017
Juxtarenal aortic aneurysms (JAAs) pose significant challenges for endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR). A short or absent infrarenal neck typically excludes standard EVAR as a viable or reasonable treatment option. In this context, the use of chimney grafts (chEVAR) is gaining in popularity and applicability. These grafts are designed to course in the aortic lumen outside the main stent-graft to maintain normal perfusion to the involved target branches. As such, they may represent a promising and less resource-intensive option for management of JAAs. However, this technical strategy is not without challenges of its own, particularly the inevitable creation of “gutters” that result from the …
Pienryhmäohjaajien vertaisryhmä andragogisessa koulutuksessa
2014
Chronic Mesenteric Ischemia: Critical review and guidelines for management
2011
Background CMI is caused by chronic occlusive disease of mesenteric arteries. In such an uncommon disease, clear recommendations are strongly needed. Unfortunately, treatment options for symptomatic CMI are still controversial and no guidelines exist. Methods A systematic literature review of the last 25-years was conducted through MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Review/Trials register to identify studies reporting on CMI treatment with more than 10 patients. Primary outcomes were perioperative mortality and morbidity rates. Secondary outcomes were survival rates, primary and secondary patency rates, vessels treated, CMI recurrence, follow-up (FU), technical success (TS), and in-hospital leng…
Theoretical Approaches on Successful Email Marketing Campaigns
2016
Nowadays, the consumer has extremely varied product options. E-mail marketing could be atool to complement traditional marketing activities by increasing customer engagement, and whichdoes not involve high costs. While there have been many predictions for years that email marketing will be replaced withsomething else, it remained one of the most useful ways to reach current and potential customers. This paper aims to bring some clarifications on what could bring success to email marketingcampaigns. Responses are related to how sent emails can draw the attention of people (ie how theycan be observed), given that, users’ inboxes are invaded by messages of all kinds, how to measurethe results …
Isolation and characterization of nuclear microsatellite loci in the northern shrimp, Pandalus borealis
2012
Published version of an article published in the journal: Conservation Genetics Resources. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s12686-011-9486-4 We developed and characterized 20 microsatellite primer loci for the northern shrimp Pandalus borealis. All 20 loci were polymorphic with number of alleles ranging from 3 to 36 and with observed heterozygosity between 0.04 and 0.93. In addition, we tested the utility of these markers in three related shrimp species, P. montagui, Atlantopandalus propinqvus and Dichelopandalus bonnieri. These new markers will prove useful in the identification of stock structure and hence, assessment of the commercially important species P…
Millennials, Peer-to-Peer Accommodation and the Hotel Industry
2016
Today’s world market is a buyer’s market and the new customers, the millennials, are thoughtto be distinctively different than others. Technologically comfortable, the most educated generationever, multitaskers, and strongly influenced by friends and peers, millennials have a different buyingbehaviour and other expectations from service providers. Thus, companies from the hospitalityindustry and policy makers face a number of challenges in trying to meet their (future) demands. Atthe same time, the “sharing economy” has led to the rise of the peer-to-peer accommodation sectorand to a new business model (Airbnb). The aim of this paper is to present these challenges for the hotel industry, be…

The purpose of this paper is to determine an to prove that the positive motivation of employees is a basic condition for the organization’s survival and success, being a priority and also an art and a continuous effort.
Shape optimization in contact problems based on penalization of the state inequality
1986
The paper deals with the approximation of optimal shape of elastic bodies, unilaterally supported by a rigid, frictionless foundation. Original state inequality, describing the behaviour of such a body is replaced by a family of penalized state problems. The relation between optimal shapes for the original state inequality and those for penalized state equations is established. peerReviewed
