Arthropod 7SK RNA

2008

The 7SK small nuclear RNA (snRNA) is a key player in the regulation of polymerase (pol) II transcription. The 7SK RNA was long believed to be specific to vertebrates where it is highly conserved. Homologs in basal deuterostomes and a few lophotrochozoan species were only recently reported. On longer timescales, 7SK evolves rapidly with only few conserved sequence and structure motifs. Previous attempts to identify the Drosophila homolog thus have remained unsuccessful despite considerable efforts. Here we report on the discovery of arthropod 7SK RNAs using a novel search strategy based on pol III promoters, as well as the subsequent verification of its expression. Our results demonstrate th…

A stalactite record of four relative sea-level highstands during the Middle Pleistocene Transition

2017

International audience; Ice-sheet and sea-level fluctuations during the Early and Middle Pleistocene are as yet poorly understood. A stalactite from a karst cave in North West Sicily (Italy) provides the first evidence of four marine inundations that correspond to relative sea-level highstands at the time of the Middle Pleistocene Transition. The speleothem is located ∼97 m above mean sea level as result of Quaternary uplift. Its section reveals three marine hiatuses and a coral overgrowth that fixes the age of final marine ingression at 1.124 ± 0.2, thus making this speleothem the oldest stalactite with marine hiatuses ever studied to date. Scleractinian coral species witness light-limited…

Sea level and climate forcing of the Sr isotope composition of late Miocene Mediterranean marine basins

2014

Sr isotope records from marginal marine basins track the mixing between seawater and local continental runoff, potentially recording the effects of sea level, tectonic, and climate forcing in marine fossils and sediments. Our 110 new Sr-87/Sr-86 analyses on oyster and foraminifera samples from six late Miocene stratigraphic sections in southern Turkey, Crete, and Sicily show that Sr-87/Sr-86 fell below global seawater values in the basins several million years before the Messinian Salinity Crisis, coinciding with tectonic uplift and basin shallowing. 87Sr/86Sr from more centrally located basins (away from the Mediterranean coast) drop below global seawater values only during the Messinian S…

HEXIM1 Diffusion in the Nucleus Is Regulated by Its Interactions with Both 7SK and P-TEFb

2019

International audience; How nuclear proteins diffuse and find their targets remains a key question in the transcription field. Dynamic proteins in the nucleus are classically subdiffusive and undergo anomalous diffusion, yet the underlying physical mechanisms are still debated. In this study, we explore the contribution of interactions to the generation of anomalous diffusion by the means of fluorescence spectroscopy and simulation. Using interaction-deficient mutants, our study indicates that HEXIM1 interactions with both 7SK RNA and positive transcription elongation factor b are critical for HEXIM1 subdiffusion and thus provides evidence of the effects of protein-RNA interaction on molecu…

Miocene lithological, foraminiferal and palynological data from the Belverde borehole (Portugal)

2021

XVIII Jornadas de Paleontología, 2002 Preliminary data on litho stratigraphy and biostratigraphy of the Belverde borehole (http://www. dct.Jct.unl.pt/ SondagemISondagem/colunalindex_col.html) is presented. The borehole attained 619,77 m of depth, crossing 130 m of Plio-Pleistocene and 460 m of Miocene dep osits. Main lithologies are fine sands , marl s and biocalcarenites. A coral reef was recognized in the lower part of the borehole (530-585 m). Gamma ray, neutrons and sonic diagraphies were obtained. Eight 87Sr/86Sr isotopic ages (H. Elderfield, Cambridge University)and the presence of some of the main planktonic foraminifera markers were used to establish the chronostratigraphic framewor…

Existence of common zeros for commuting vector fields on 3‐manifolds II. Solving global difficulties

2020

We address the following conjecture about the existence of common zeros for commuting vector fields in dimension three: if $X,Y$ are two $C^1$ commuting vector fields on a $3$-manifold $M$, and $U$ is a relatively compact open such that $X$ does not vanish on the boundary of $U$ and has a non vanishing Poincar\'e-Hopf index in $U$, then $X$ and $Y$ have a common zero inside $U$. We prove this conjecture when $X$ and $Y$ are of class $C^3$ and every periodic orbit of $Y$ along which $X$ and $Y$ are collinear is partially hyperbolic. We also prove the conjecture, still in the $C^3$ setting, assuming that the flow $Y$ leaves invariant a transverse plane field. These results shed new light on t…
