Participation in Social Media: Studying Explicit and Implicit Forms of Participation in Communicative Social Networks

The diverse forms of participation in social media raise many methodological and ethical issues that should be acknowledged in research. In this paper, participation in social media is studied by utilising the framework of explicit and implicit participation. The focus is on the communicative and communal aspects of social media. The aim of the paper is to promote the reconsideration of what constitutes participation when online users create connections rather than content. The underlying argument is that research on social media and the development of methods should concentrate more on implicit forms of participation.
Realization of time-resolved two-vacuum-ultraviolet-photon ionization

International audience; Ultrafast dynamics of excited molecules is studied through time-resolved two-vacuum-ultraviolet (vuv)- photon ionization using a nonlinear volume autocorrelator unit. The two-vuv-photon process is induced by the intense fifth harmonic radiation of a femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser. In a proof-of-principle experiment, ultrafast dynamics of excited ethylene and oxygen molecules are investigated. Molecular decay times are deduced by comparing the experimental data with the results of a numerical model that accounts for the spatial and temporal characteristics of the harmonic field. Prognostic value of HSP27 in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: a retrospective analysis of 57 tumours.

Background: The aims of the present study were to assess the prevalence of HSP27 expression in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and to verify whether HSP27 can be considered to be a marker of prognosis in patients with OSCC. Materials and Methods: The immunohistochemical expression of HSP27 was evaluated in 57 OSCC, who received standard treatment and monitoring. After grouping for HSP27 expression, OSCCs were statistically analysed for the variables age, gender, histological grading, TNM, staging and survival rate. The essential amino acid L-tryptophan (Trp) is the precursor of the monoaminergic neurotransmitter serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT). Numerous studies have shown that elevated dietary Trp has a suppressive effect on aggressive behavior and post-stress plasma cortisol concentrations in vertebrates, including teleosts. These effects are believed to be mediated by the brain serotonergic system, even though all mechanisms involved are not well understood. The rate of 5-HT biosynthesis is limited by Trp availability, but only in neurons of the hindbrain raphe area predominantly expressing the isoform TPH2 of the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase (TPH). Le fonctionnement des rivières du bassin de l’Èbre a subi d’importants changements depuis 1950. Il s’agit d’un processus rapide et très marqué, de simplification et de stabilisation sur le fleuve principal et sur ses principaux affluents pyrénéens. Ce processus s’est manifesté par des changements dans la morphologie fluviale, le développement de la végétation sur les lits, un rétrécissement de l’espace naturel fluvial et une incision des lits fluviaux. Tämä tutkielma käsittelee sukupuolen rakentumista oppikoulujen koulukurissa 1800–1900- lukujen vaihteessa. Lähdeaineistona on käytetty Tampereen suomalaisen tyttökoulun, Kuopion suomalaisen yhteiskoulun ja Jyväskylän lyseon rangaistuskirjoja ja opettajankokousten pöytäkirjoja. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa on tarkasteltu koulujen matrikkeliteoksia ja koulukuria määritellyttä lainsäädäntöä. Menetelmänä on ollut kvantitatiivinen vertailumenetelmä, ja sukupuolen rakentumista on tarkasteltu gender-teorian sekä sukupuolieron näkökulmasta.
