Higher Order Sobolev-Type Spaces on the Real Line

2014

This paper gives a characterization of Sobolev functions on the real line by means of pointwise inequalities involving finite differences. This is also shown to apply to more general Orlicz-Sobolev, Lorentz-Sobolev, and Lorentz-Karamata-Sobolev spaces.

Pointwise k-Pseudo Metric Space

2021

In this paper, the concept of a k-(quasi) pseudo metric is generalized to the L-fuzzy case, called a pointwise k-(quasi) pseudo metric, which is considered to be a map d:J(LX)×J(LX)⟶[0,∞) satisfying some conditions. What is more, it is proved that the category of pointwise k-pseudo metric spaces is isomorphic to the category of symmetric pointwise k-remote neighborhood ball spaces. Besides, some L-topological structures induced by a pointwise k-quasi-pseudo metric are obtained, including an L-quasi neighborhood system, an L-topology, an L-closure operator, an L-interior operator, and a pointwise quasi-uniformity.

Positive solutions of discrete boundary value problems with the (p,q)-Laplacian operator

2017

We consider a discrete Dirichlet boundary value problem of equations with the (p,q)-Laplacian operator in the principal part and prove the existence of at least two positive solutions. The assumptions on the reaction term ensure that the Euler-Lagrange functional, corresponding to the problem, satisfies an abstract two critical points result.

Pseudo-Bosons from Landau Levels

2010

We construct examples of pseudo-bosons in two dimensions arising from the Hamiltonian for the Landau levels. We also prove a no-go result showing that non-linear combinations of bosonic creation and annihilation operators cannot give rise to pseudo-bosons.

Continuities and Discontinuities in the Economic Growth of Spain. 1850-1936

1998

The Spanish pattern of economic growth during the last two centuries is quite unique. In the nineteenth century, Spain remained outside the process of industrialization, but during the twentieth century it has joined the small group of developed economies. This article checks the possible existence of discontinuities between 1850-1936 in the series of PNB, industrial production and private and public investment by utilizing recent developments in the econometric analysis associated with the work of Perron and Ziwot and Andrews. The results confirm the continuity of the Spanish growth during the long period considered. However, they also show two breakpoint years: 1870 in the series of indus…

Weak solutions to Dirichlet boundary value problem driven by p(x)-Laplacian-like operator

2017

We prove the existence of weak solutions to the Dirichlet boundary value problem for equations involving the $p(x)$-Laplacian-like operator in the principal part, with reaction term satisfying a sub-critical growth condition. We establish the existence of at least one nontrivial weak solution and three weak solutions, by using variational methods and critical point theory.

Strong Converse Results for Linking Operators and Convex Functions

2020

We consider a family B n , ρ c of operators which is a link between classical Baskakov operators (for ρ = ∞ ) and their genuine Durrmeyer type modification (for ρ = 1 ). First, we prove that for fixed n , c and a fixed convex function f , B n , ρ c f is decreasing with respect to ρ . We give two proofs, using various probabilistic considerations. Then, we combine this property with some existing direct and strong converse results for classical operators, in order to get such results for the operators B n , ρ c applied to convex functions.
