Research into one of the least known periods of Pablo Picasso. He lived for four years in A Coruña when he was a teenage…

The Impact of Using Measurements of Electrodermal Activity in the Assessment of Problematic Behaviour in Dementia

2018

Background: A major and complex challenge when trying to support individuals with dementia is meeting the needs of those who experience changes in behaviour and mood. Aim: To explore how a sensor measuring electrodermal activity (EDA) impacts assistant nurses’ structured assessments of problematic behaviours amongst people with dementia and their choices of care interventions. Methods: Fourteen individuals with dementia wore a sensor that measured EDA. The information from the sensor was presented to assistant nurses during structured assessments of problematic behaviours. The evaluation process included scorings with the instrument NPI-NH (Neuropsychiatric Inventory-Nursing Home version), …

SEAI: Social Emotional Artificial Intelligence Based on Damasio’s Theory of Mind

2018

A socially intelligent robot must be capable to extract meaningful information in real-time from the social environment and react accordingly with coherent human-like behaviour. Moreover, it should be able to internalise this information, to reason on it at a higher abstract level, build its own opinions independently and then automatically bias the decision-making according to its unique experience. In the last decades, neuroscience research highlighted the link between the evolution of such complex behaviour and the evolution of a certain level of consciousness, which cannot leave out of a body that feels emotions as discriminants and prompters. In order to develop cognitive systems for s…

The role of travel motivations and social media use in consumer interactive behaviour: a uses and gratifications perspective

2020

This paper explores the influence of travel motivations and the gratification provided by social media in consumer stickiness to social media, intention to create user-generated content, and electronic word of mouth (eWOM) review adoption. The study follows a mixed-methods approach. First, a concept mapping study was undertaken to identify the main travel motivations and the gratifications provided by social media when consumers search for information on tourism destinations. A second study using structural equation modelling and SmartPLS 3.2.7 with a sample of 401 heavy users of social media showed the relationships between individual travel motivations and gratifications provided by socia…

Formation of Hematite Nanotubes by Two-Step Electrochemical Anodization for Efficient Degradation of Organic Pollutants

2016

[EN] Nowadays, hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) has emerged as a promising photocatalyst for efficient degradation of organic pollutants due to its properties such as suitable band-gap (similar to 2.1 eV), stability against photocorrosion, abundance and low cost. However, some drawbacks such as low carrier mobility and short hole diffusion length limit its efficiency. In order to overcome these issues, self-ordered nanotubes can be synthetized. Anodization is one of the simplest and most economic techniques to produce nanostructures with high control. In the present study, self-ordered hematite nanotubes were synthetized by two-step electrochemical anodization. In two-step anodization, a first-step w…
