Participation in Social Media: Studying Explicit and Implicit Forms of Participation in Communicative Social Networks

The diverse forms of participation in social media raise many methodological and ethical issues that should be acknowledged in research. In this paper, participation in social media is studied by utilising the framework of explicit and implicit participation. The focus is on the communicative and communal aspects of social media. The aim of the paper is to promote the reconsideration of what constitutes participation when online users create connections rather than content. The underlying argument is that research on social media and the development of methods should concentrate more on implicit forms of participation.

In analysing the relationship between architecture and urban planning, this paper starts from Leonardo Benevolo’s declaration (in 1963) that defines the latter as “a part of politics required to concretize each operational program”. Uskonyhteisöjen toimesta on perustettu hautausmaita, jotta yhteisöjen kuolleet jäsenet saadaan sijoitettua johonkin yhteisössä vallitsevien tapojen ja käytänteiden mukaisesti. Tämän tutkimuksen kohde, Jyväskylän Vanha hautausmaa perustettiin vuonna 1837 kehittyvän ja laajentuvan kaupungin laitamille huolehtimaan yhteisön edesmenneistä jäsenistä. Tässä tutkimuksessa tutkitaan Vanhan hautausmaan vaiheita vuosien 1956–1971 välisenä aikana. Dyes of a Shadow Theatre: Investigating Tholu Bommalu Indian Puppets through a Highly Sensitive Multi-Spectroscopic Approach

Tholu Bommalu are typical leather puppets of the traditional Indian shadow theatre. Two of these objects are part of a collection in the International Puppets Museum “Antonio Pasqualino” (Palermo, Sicily, Italy), which can count on one hundred-seventy-three of artifacts. These Indian puppets were investigated to obtain information related to the use of dyes for their manufacturing through a multi-technical approach exploiting the combination of highly sensitive spectroscopic techniques. Wet cotton stubbons were used to entrap small particles of dyes on the fibers from the art objects for the consequent analyses.
