Sterile Neutrinos, Black Hole Vacuum and Holographic Principle

2021

We construct an effective field theory (EFT) model that describes matter field interactions with Schwarzschild mini-black-holes (SBH's), treated as a scalar field, $B_0(x)$. Fermion interactions with SBH's require a random complex spurion field, $\theta_{ij}$, which we interpret as the EFT description of "holographic information," which is correlated with the SBH as a composite system. We consider Hawking's virtual black hole vacuum (VBH) as a Higgs phase, $\langle B_0 \rangle =V$. Integrating sterile neutrino loops, the field $\theta_{ij}$ is promoted to a dynamical field, necessarily developing a tachyonic instability and acquiring a VEV of order the Planck scale. For $N$ sterile neutrino…

Forward dijets in proton-nucleus collisions at next-to-leading order: the real corrections

2021

Using the CGC effective theory together with the hybrid factorisation, we study forward dijet production in proton-nucleus collisions beyond leading order. In this paper, we compute the "real" next-to-leading order (NLO) corrections, i.e. the radiative corrections associated with a three-parton final state, out of which only two are being measured. To that aim, we start by revisiting our previous results for the three-parton cross-section presented in our previous paper. After some reshuffling of terms, we deduce new expressions for these results, which not only look considerably simpler, but are also physically more transparent. We also correct several errors in this process. The real NLO …

Oh, wait, O8 de Sitter may be unstable!

2021

We analyze the stability of four-dimensional de Sitter vacua constructed by compactifying massive Type IIA supergravity in the presence of two O8 sources [1]. When embedded in String Theory the first source has a clear interpretation as an O8$_-$ plane, but the second one could correspond to either an O8$_+$ plane or to an O8$_-$ plane with 16 D8-branes on top. We find that this latter solution has a tachyonic instability, corresponding to the D8-branes moving away from the O8$_-$ plane. We comment on the possible ways of distinguishing between these sources.

Quark structure of the $$\chi _{\mathrm{c}}(3P)$$ χc(3P) and X(4274) resonances and their strong and radiative decays

2020

We calculate the masses of $$\chi _{\mathrm{c}}(3P)$$ χc(3P) states with threshold corrections in a coupled-channel model. The model was recently applied to the description of the properties of $$\chi _{\mathrm{c}}(2P)$$ χc(2P) and $$\chi _{\mathrm{b}}(3P)$$ χb(3P) multiplets (Ferretti and Santopinto in Phys Lett B 789:550, 2019]. We also compute the open-charm strong decay widths of the $$\chi _{\mathrm{c}}(3P)$$ χc(3P) states and their radiative transitions. According to our predictions, the $$\chi _{\mathrm{c}}(3P)$$ χc(3P) states should be dominated by the charmonium core, but they may also show small meson-meson components. The X(4274) is interpreted as a $$c {{\bar{c}}}$$ cc¯ $$\chi _…

Divers aspects de la fertilité de la vigne après une grêle

1981

<p style="text-align: justify;">Following a hail storm, the question normally posed is first to what extent a repruning is beneficial, and then to evaluate the hail's effect on the following year's fertility. A careful study of the influence of hail, using numerous measurements of fertility taken during winter has allowed to determine the parameters that should be taken into account in choosing the course of action to follow.</p>

Differential disease resistance response in the barley necrotic mutant nec1

2010

Abstract Background Although ion fluxes are considered to be an integral part of signal transduction during responses to pathogens, only a few ion channels are known to participate in the plant response to infection. CNGC4 is a disease resistance-related cyclic nucleotide-gated ion channel. Arabidopsis thaliana CNGC4 mutants hlm1 and dnd2 display an impaired hypersensitive response (HR), retarded growth, a constitutively active salicylic acid (SA)-mediated pathogenesis-related response and elevated resistance against bacterial pathogens. Barley CNGC4 shares 67% aa identity with AtCNGC4. The barley mutant nec1 comprising of a frame-shift mutation of CNGC4 displays a necrotic phenotype and co…

Synthesis and biological activity of Na-[4-[N-[(3,4-dihydro-2- methyl-4-oxo-6-quinazolinyl)methyl]-N-propargylamino]phenylacetyl]-L-glutamic acid

2002

2-Deamino-2-methyl-N10-propargyl-5,8-dideazafolic acid (ICI 198583) is a potent inhibitor of thymidylate synthase. Its analogue, Na-[4-[N-[(3,4-dihydro-2-methyl-4-oxo6-quinazolinyl)methyl]-N-Propargylamino]phenylacetyl]-L-glutamic acid, containing p-aminophenylacetic acid residue substituting p-aminobenzoic acid residue, was synthesized. The new analogue exhibited a moderately potent thymidylate synthase inhibition, of linear mixed type vs. the cofactor, N5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate. The Ki value of 0.34 uM, determined with a purified recombinant rat hepatoma enzyme, was about 30-fold higher than that reported for inhibition of thymidylate synthase from mouse leukemia L1210 cells by ICI …

Un nuevo híbrido del género Ophrys L. (Orchidaceae) en el litoral valenciano

2012

[EN] Here we describe a new hybrid of genus Ophrys L. (Orchidaceae) found in Cullera (Valencia): Ophrys x donatiae, which comes from the crossing between Ophrys dianica and O. tenthredinifera, and has intermediate characters. Distribution area and phenology are shared by parental plants.
