Velocity sensorless control of a PMSM actuator directly driven an uncertain two-mass system using RKF tuned with an evolutionary algorithm

2010

This paper proposes a solution to tune an observer keeping robust closed loop performances for the sensorless motion control of an uncertain mechanical load directly driven by a PMSM through a flexible axis. An evolutionary algorithm optimizes the observers degrees of freedom. Experiments show that performances are effectively maintained.

Fuzzy predictive controller design using ant colony optimization algorithm

2014

In this paper, an approach for designing an adaptive fuzzy model predictive control (AFMPC) based on the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) is studied. On-line adaptive fuzzy identification is used to identify the system parameters. These parameters are used to calculate the objective function based on predictive approach and structure of RST control. The optimization problem is solved based on an ACO algorithm, used at the optimization process in AFMPC to calculate a sequence of future RST control actions. The obtained simulation results show that proposed approach provides better results compared with Proportional Integral-Ant Colony Optimization (PI-ACO) controller and adaptive fuzzy model pr…

Robust Design of Automated Guided Vehicles System in an FMS

1996

Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV), as material handling systems, are widely diffused in FMS environment. The design of such a system involves the selection of the most suitable lay-out on one hand, and the choice of the “optimal” level of some parameters such as the number of vehicles. machine buffer capacity, the number of pallets, vehicle and part dispatching rules, etc. on the other. The optimal combination of these factor levels, that maximises a certain output variable, could be uncovered by Response Surface Methodology (RSM). But two are the problems that immediately arise in the application of such a technique: how to consider the qualitative variables, like dispatching or loading rule…

A GRASP algorithm for the container stowage slot planning problem

2016

This work presents a generalization of the Slot Planning Problem which raises when the liner shipping industry needs to plan the placement of containers within a vessel (stowage planning). State-of-the-art stowage planning relies on a heuristic decomposition where containers are first distributed in clusters along the vessel. For each of those clusters a specific position for each container must be found. Compared to previous studies, we have introduced two new features: the explicit handling of rolled out containers and the inclusion of separations rules for dangerous cargo. We present a novel integer programming formulation and a Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure (GRASP) to solv…

Integrated Approach to Part Scheduling and Inspection Policies for a Job Shop Manufacturing System

2007

The quality of a product greatly depends on the quality of its components. This requires that manufacturing specifications have to be met in the manufacturing environment and as a consequence inspection stations are present in many manufacturing systems and inspection policies must be adopted. One problem, which has been widely investigated, concerns the detection of the inspection points in the hypothesis that the action to be taken is known when a defective part is detected. If different jobs are to be produced, then operation scheduling becomes yet another complex problem needing to be solved. And while the problem of scheduling has received a great amount of attention from researchers, …

Multiobjectives Approach for Process Plan Selection in IMS Environment

1996

Abstract In Integrated Manufacturing Systems (IMS) evaluating the most suitable process plan is a very complex task. Technology, quality, production and market requirements are objectives to be pursued in the selection process, subject to the constraints due to the several part types simultaneously manufactured. The paper proposes a new approach to the process planning selection, based on a possibilistic fuzzy programming model in order to face the vagueness coming from the formalization of the objectives and constraints in the selection problem.

Technical and Economical Analysis of Different Measures for Efficient Operation of a Distribution Network in a Mediterranean Island

2006

The paper performs a technical and economical comparison of different measures to improve the efficiency of a MV system for power distribution in the Mediterranean island of Lampedusa. The study takes into consideration three possible measures: 1) rated voltage increase from 10 kV to 20 kV; 2) reactive power compensation with fixed capacitor banks; 3) reactive power compensation with switchable capacitor banks. While the study of the first two considered measures is carried out with classical design methods, the optimal reactive design with switchable capacitor banks is carried out by means of a specific software set up at the DIEET and implementing the multiobjective optimization genetic a…

Least squares and genetic algorithms for parameter identification of induction motors

2001

Abstract This paper deals with off-line parameter identification of induction motors by means of least square (LS) techniques and genetic algorithms (GA), using stator voltages, stator currents and velocity as input–output data. For analytical identification by LS algorithms, filtering of experimental data is performed by means of anticausal filters. Two models useful for identification are derived in which the products of acceleration and rotor fluxes, usually neglected, are taken into account. The GA-based identification method consists of the determination of the best parameters which match input–output behaviour of the motor. Both methods are investigated and compared by means of experi…

Memetic Differential Evolution Frameworks in Filter Design for Defect Detection in Paper Production

2009

This chapter studies and analyzes Memetic Differential Evolution (MDE) Frameworks for designing digital filters, which aim at detecting paper defects produced during an industrial process. MDE Frameworks employ the Differential Evolution (DE) as an evolutionary framework and a list of local searchers adaptively coordinated by a control scheme. Here, three different variants of MDE are taken into account and their features and performance are compared. The binomial explorative features of the DE framework in contraposition to the exploitative features of the local searcher are analyzed in detail in light of the stagnation prevention problem, typical for the DE. Much emphasis in this chapter …

Effect of climate change on asphalt binder selection for road construction in Italy

2015

This work explores the influence of climate changes on the proper selection of asphalt binder for pavement construction purposes, according to the Performance Grade (PG) defined in the SUPERPAVE specifications. Based on temperature data at national level, it is possible to obtain thematic maps for the whole Italian territory, which is extremely useful for technicians and pavement engineers for selection of asphalt binder for road construction purposes. Furthermore, the statistical significant temperature trends’ knowledge enables deriving thematic maps which allows to include the effects of climate change in the asphalt binder design. It is argued that, due to climate change, the binders to…
