Reconstruction and simulation of the vehicle to road safety barrier oblique collision based on the Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm
2012
Vehicle crash modeling and reconstruction is an important field for research since the safety statistics from many countries show that the fatality rate of passenger vehicle occupants involved in road accidents is high. In particular, side impact are considered to be a serious problem. For this reason, in this paper, there is presented a methodology to reconstruct a given vehicle to road safety barrier oblique collision. An easy to analyze, viscoelastic model is established to represent a vehicle crash event. The reasonable modeling simplifications are assumed (namely: the vehicle is rigid and deformation of the safety barrier is negligible) which let the computational efficiency of the pro…
THE OPTIMUM SELECTION OF THE WINDOW SHADING LEVELS AND OF THE INDOOR VENTILATION RATES AS A DESIGN STRATEGY FOR BIOCLIMATIC COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS
1991
ABSTRACT Ventilation rates, shading level of windows and indoor air temperature are analyzed together in order to single out the optimum mix referred to the thermal comfort situations of thermally moderate commercial buildings. Thermal comfort is here taken into account by means of the Predicted Mean Vote ( Fanger, 1970 ). A short selection of graphs is proposed, able to provide the simultaneous view of the effects produced, on the PMV, by modifications of the above cited parameters. Graphs can be usefully adopted for the proper design of the glazed surfaces, especially for passive solar buildings.
An optimization location scheme for electric charging stations
2013
International audience; Due to environmental issues, electric mobility is one of the mobility alternatives that are receiving a huge attention nowadays. In fact, in the last few years electric vehicles have entered the world's car market. This revolutionary technology requires a fast deployment of electric charging stations since the key issue in this system is recharging the batteries. In this work, we propose an optimized algorithm to locate electric-vehicles charging stations. Different factors and limitations are considered and a real case study is given as an application. We first determine the appropriate strict constraints and cost of charging stations' location; and then we propose …
Human Resource Selection Approaches and Socially Responsible Strategy
2016
Abstract The research focuses on the characterisation of theoretical aspects of human resource (HR) selection approaches and the analysis of these approaches within a socially responsible strategy and in the context of business sustainability creation. The main methods implemented are monographic research, scientific literature analysis, synthesis, and comparison. As a result, the HR selection concept development and application summary was created as well as the importance of HR selection within a socially responsible strategy was characterised.
A Memetic Differential Evolution in Filter Design for Defect Detection in Paper Production
2007
This article proposes a Memetic Differential Evolution (MDE) for designing digital filters which aim at detecting defects of the paper produced during an industrial process. The MDE is an adaptive evolutionary algorithm which combines the powerful explorative features of Differential Evolution (DE) with the exploitative features of two local searchers. The local searchers are adaptively activated by means of a novel control parameter which measures fitness diversity within the population. Numerical results show that the DE framework is efficient for the class of problems under study and employment of exploitative local searchers is helpful in supporting the DE explorative mechanism in avoid…
The Taguchi Method and Conditions for its Implementation in High Performance Athletic Training
2014
Abstract The purpose of this research is to present the main features of the Taguchi method, a method used today mainly in the optimization of industrial processes and products. It allows identification of process parameters that may contribute to system optimization; in our case, it allows the selection of the most effective means of training aimed at optimizing processes. After having determined the relevant characteristics in athlete training, we developed a model based on the Taguchi method, adapting the characteristics of that training for implementation in high performance athletic training. We also checked the optimum conditions for the implementation of management techniques and for…
Velocity sensorless control of uncertain load using RKF tuned with an evolutionary algorithm and mu-analysis
2010
Abstract In case of a velocity control scheme for a load directly driven by an actuator, large variations of its parameters are problematic due to possible instability and large variations of the final performances. This performances are then decreasing if a sensorless control is implemented due to cost, reliability or application constraints. This paper proposes solutions to quickly and accurately tune an observer with a lower computer time consumption and lower conception time. A previous calculated state feedback is used as base for a Kalman filter with special noise matrices. An evolutionary algorithm optimizes the observers degrees of freedom all over the variations. The mu-analysis th…
Urban public transport optimization by bus ways: a neural network-based methodology
2007
This paper describes an approach for planning the introduction of bus lanes into the urban road network, that has been applied to the urban area of Palermo. The proposed modelling tool adopts a multi-agent objective function expressing the trade-off between the interests of diverse stakeholders: the generalized transport cost for car drivers and the travel time for public transport users. The reaction of car traffic to a certain planning scenario has been simulated by the DUE assignment technique and the positive impact of the modal shift on the objective function has been tackled by attaching a suitable weight to the time saving for bus passengers. The rise in the bus travel speed, owing t…
Backcalculation of airport pavement moduli and thickness using the Lévy Ant Colony Optimization Algorithm
2016
Interpretation of NDTdata is crucial in any Airport Pavement Management System (APMS), in order to implement strategies to maintain airport pavementssince they allow to estimate their remaining life and related maintenance needs and activities. In this paper, the AntColony Optimization algorithmwasused for backcalculation of pavement moduli from surface deflection data. The algorithm’s performances are illustrated and improvement in prediction quality is demonstrated both in terms of goodness of fitness and computational effort. Moreover, it is proved that the proposed algorithm is also able to predict layer thicknesses, taking into account their variation too.
Flexible power converters for the fault tolerant operation of Micro-Grids
2010
The progressive penetration level of Distributed Generation (DG) is destined to cause deep changes in the existing distribution networks no longer considered as passive terminations of the whole electrical system. A possible solution is the realization of small networks, namely the Micro-Grids, reproducing in themselves the structure of the main production and distribution of the electrical energy system. In order to gain an adequate reliability level of the microgrids the individuation and the management of the faults with the goal of maintaining the micro-grid operation (fault tolerant operation) is quite important. In the present paper flexible power converters and a companion control al…
