A crystalline radical cation derived from Thiele’s hydrocarbon with redox range beyond 1 V

Thiele’s hydrocarbon occupies a central role as an open-shell platform for new organic materials, however little is known about its redox behaviour. While recent synthetic approaches involving symmetrical carbene substitution of the CPh2 termini yield isolable neutral/dicationic analogues, the intervening radical cations are much more difficult to isolate, due to narrow compatible redox ranges (typically 1 V), permitting its isolation in crystalline form. Annexin 1 (Ax 1), a protein whose synthesis and secretion are induced during the inflammatory response, has been proposed as a mediator of the anti-inflammatory action of glucocorticoids. To gain insight into a broader role of Ax 1 during the inflammatory response, the authors have investigated how pro-inflammatory cytokines [interleukin 1 (IL-1), IL-6 and tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha)] affect Ax 1 expression and regulation at transcriptional and translational levels. Tutkimuksen tarkoitus on selvittää 60- ja 65-vuotiaiden ikääntyvien elämänhallintaa ja nykyistä sekä tulevaa tuen tarvetta. Elämänhallinnan viitekehyksenä on Antonovskyn koherenssiteoria, jossa elämänhallinta rakentuu merkityksellisyydestä, hallinnantunteesta ja ymmärrettävyydestä. Quality management in the public sector accounting department - (un)avoidable quality costs and unlikely financial impacts

This paper investigates the nature of quality costs and the likelihood of their having financial impacts in the public sector. An illustrative quality development case project in an accounting department of a Finnish city administration is presented. The empirical data includes answers to a qualitative project question sheet, workshop material and participative observation. Quality problems are classified according to their quality cost category and the extent to which they are avoidable. Some of the quality costs proved unavoidable and some are likely to lack financial impact, exhibiting sticky cost behaviour. The aim of this article is to bring philosophical thinking closer to practice-based empirical work. Using Martin Heidegger’s philosophy, it offers a bridge between these two worlds, attempting to provide philosophical depth to the findings of a hermeneutic phenomenological study. This process unfolded through the appearance of three intertwined, potential, meaningful modes of being in the lifeworld: space as a condition for being and being for worlding the world; temporal and spatial self-being, the existence of multiple selves in time and space; and suffering and thriving as modes of being. IntroductionThis study aims to investigate whether the associations between impaired glucose regulation and health-related quality of life are modified by severity or type of depressive symptoms.Research design and methodsFor this cross-sectional study, we included 1939 individuals (mean age 61.5 years) from the Helsinki Birth Cohort Study. Between 2001 and 2004, a standard 2-hour 75 g oral glucose tolerance test was applied to define normoglycemia, pre-diabetes, and newly diagnosed diabetes. Information on previously diagnosed diabetes was collected from national registers and questionnaires. Abstract In this study, we develop mathematical educational practices for students to explore ancient buildings using GeoGebra, Augmented Reality and 3D printing. It is an interdisciplinary approach, intertwining history, culture, mathematics, and engineering. For example, the 3D modelling of Cheomseongdae in Korea and the Temple of Dendera in Egypt can enable students to practice a multimodal set of traditional and innovative learning approaches. Students might use their mathematical knowledge to reflect on architectural and cultural history in a modeling task.
