Photoswitching of the antiferromagnetic coupling in an oxamato-based dicopper(ii) anthracenophane

Thermally reversible photomagnetic (ON/OFF) switching behavior has been observed in a dinuclear oxamatocopper(ii) anthracenophane upon UV light irradiation and heating; the two CuII ions (SCu = 1/2) that are antiferromagnetically coupled in the dicopper(ii) metallacyclic precursor (ON state) become uncoupled in the corresponding [4+4] photocycloaddition product (OFF state), as substantiated from both experimental and theoretical studies. © 2011 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Encapsulation and solid state sequestration of gases by calix[6]arene-based molecular containers

2017

Two calix[6]arene-based molecular containers were synthesized in high yields. These containers can encapsulate small guests through a unique "rotating door" complexation process. The sequestration of greenhouse gases is clearly demonstrated. They can be stored in the solid state for long periods and released via dissolution of the inclusion complex.

Self-assembly of M4L4tetrahedral cages incorporating pendant PS and PSe functionalised ligands

Herein, the synthesis of metal–organic tetrahedral cages featuring flexible thio- and selenophosphate-based ligands is described. The cages were prepared by sub-component self-assembly of AP(OC6H4NH2-4)3 (A = S, Se) or SP(SC6H4NH2-4)3, 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde, and either Fe[BF4]2 or Co[BF4]2. Preliminary host–guest studies into the ability of the pendant PS and PSe groups to interact with suitable substrates will be discussed.

Reactivity of [1,2,3]Triazolo[1,5-a]pyridines as 1,3-dipoles

Abstract We have studied the reactions between [1,2,3]Triazolo[1,5- a ]pyridines 1a,b,c and electron-deficient ethylenes in different conditions. Compounds 1a and 1b react with ethyl propiolate, and dimethyl acetylene dicarboxylate giving a new class of biaryl compounds pyridyl pyrazoles, and with ethyl acrylate giving pyridyl cyclopropanes. Compound 1c did not give any product in the studied conditions. A proposal of mechanism of these reactions is done in which the triazolopyridines act as 1,3-dipoles giving 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions.

Unsymmetrically Substituted Bis(phosphino)Ferrocenes Triggering Through-Space 31(P, P′)-Nuclear Spin Couplings and Encapsulating Coinage Metal Cations

International audience; We describe unsymmetrically substituted di-tert-butylated 1,1'-bis(phosphino)ferrocenes, with phosphino substituents R = [5-methyl]-2-furyl = Fu, and R' = phenyl (4a), i-propyl (4b). A modular synthetic approach was applied from the di-tert-butylated ferrocene platform (1), which lead to the formation of new diphosphines by using 1,1'bis(diiodo)-3,3'-bis(tert-butyl)ferrocene (2) as synthetic precursor. Synthesis of substituted piperidines by enantioselective desymmetrizing intramolecular aza-Michael reactions.

An organocatalytic enantioselective intramolecular aza-Michael reaction has been described for the first time in a desymmetrization process employing substrates different from cyclohexadienones. By using 9-amino-9-deoxy-epi-hydroquinine as the catalyst and trifluoroacetic acid as a co-catalyst, a series of enantiomerically enriched 2,5-and 2,6-disubstituted piperidines have been obtained in good yields and with moderate diastereoselectivity. Depending on the catalyst/co-catalyst loading ratio, either the major or the minor diastereoisomer of the final piperidine products was achieved with high levels of enantioselectivity. 8-Iodonaphthalene-1-carbaldehyde: A Versatile Building Block for Diversity-Oriented Synthesis.

The scarcely studied 8-halonaphthalene-1-carbaldehyde structure has been converted into the corresponding Ellman’s imine and subjected to several transformations, thus achieving an assorted library of polycyclic carbo- and heterocycles. The potential of this scaffold for Diversity-Oriented Synthesis has been shown. Most of these skeletons are unprecedented and, therefore, cover unexplored regions of the chemical space.

A Strongly Luminescent Chromium(III) Complex Acid

The synthesis, structure, reactivity, and photophysical properties of a novel acidic, luminescent chromium(III) complex [Cr(H2 tpda)2 ]3+ (23+ ) bearing the tridentate H2 tpda (2,6-bis(2-pyridylamino)pyridine) ligand are presented. Excitation of 23+ at 442 nm results in strong, long-lived NIR luminescence at 782 nm in water and in acetonitrile. X-ray diffraction analysis and IR spectroscopy reveal hydrogen-bonding interactions of the counter ions to the NH groups of 23+ in the solid state. Deprotonation of the NH groups of 23+ by using a non-nucleophilic Schwesinger base in CH3 CN switches off the luminescence. Re-protonation by using HClO4 restores the emission.
