In situ ATR-IR studies in aqueous phase reforming of hydroxyacetone on Pt/ZrO2 and Pt/AlO(OH) catalysts: The role of aldol condensation
2018
Abstract In situ Attenuated Total Reflection Infrared (ATR-IR) spectroscopy was used to study Aqueous Phase Reforming of hydroxyacetone on Pt/AlO(OH) and Pt/ZrO2 catalysts at 230 °C/ 30 bar. Formation of strongly adsorbed aldol condensation products was observed on the surface of Pt/ZrO2 and ZrO2 in contrast to Pt/AlO(OH) and AlO(OH). Peak assignments were supported by DFT calculations of the IR spectra of the condensation products in vacuum and in the presence of water. Aldol condensation of hydroxyacetone leading to compounds with high molecular weight with unsaturated bonds was suggested as a first step in coke formation. Carbonaceous deposits on the surface of the ZrO2 support are oxyge…
Microgels of polyaspartamide and poly(ethylene glycol) derivatives obtained by γ-irradiation
2002
Abstract The copolymer PHG based on α , β -poly( N -2-hydroxyethyl)- dl -aspartamide (PHEA) functionalized with glycidyl methacrylate has been exposed in aqueous solution to a γ -ray source at different irradiation doses (2, 2.5 and 3.5 kGy), alone or in combination with poly(ethylene glycol)dimethacrylate (PEGDMA) or poly(ethylene glycol)diacrylate (PEGDA). The irradiation produces microgel systems that have been characterized by viscosity measurements. Lyophilization of microgels gives rise to samples able to swell instantaneously in water whereas their treatment with acetone produces swellable microparticles that have been characterized.
Ethyl Pyrogallarene and Pyrogallarene: Synthesis, Structural Analysis and Derivatization
2004
In the acid-catalyzed synthesis of ethyl pyrogall[4]arene, a novel hexamer, ethyl pyrogall[6] arene, is obtained as a readily isolable minor product. Pyrogall[6]arene can be isolated from the reaction mixture in three different ways yielding the hexamer in different forms and stabilities. Crystallization from DMSO and then recrystallization from acetone gives a stable crystalline solid, recrystallization directly from acetone yields an unstable white powder, while direct recrystallization from THF gives a stable white powder. Both pyrogall[4]arene and pyrogall[6]arene crystallize readily with DMSO filling the voids in the crystal lattice. Co-crystallization studies of the hexamer isolated b…
Towards purely inorganic clusters in medicine: Biocompatible divalent cations as counterions of cobaltabis(dicarbollide) and its iodinated derivatives
2021
Monovalent cations, Cs+, and alkylammonium ([NR4]+) salts have traditionally been used to precipitate the anions of boranes, carborane and metallocarborane clusters. In contrast, in the body and in living organisms in general, divalent cations have a special relevance. In this work, we isolate for the first time the cobaltabis(dicarbollide) salts of the biocompatible divalent cations of biological importance that can have application both in biology and in materials science. The preparation of Ca2+, Mg2+ and Fe2+ salts of anionic iodinated nido-[C2B9H12]− and cobaltabis(dicarbollide) as well as its di-, tetra- and octa-iodinated derivatives are reported. Ca2+ and Mg2+ are hard Lewis acids a…
Chemistry of lanthanide–metal carbonyl systems: the ytterbium–chromium carbonyls interaction
2001
Abstract The interaction of the chromium carbonyl hydrides HCr2(CO)10− or HCr(CO)5− with Yb(acac)3·3H2O has been investigated, and the experimental conditions leading to the isolation of ytterbium–chromium carbonyl complex species are reported. Formulation of the coordination compounds produced by such interactions has been proposed on the basis of analytical data and IR spectroscopy.

Echo-assisted impulsive alignment of room-temperature acetone molecules
2021
International audience; We experimentally and theoretically investigate the field-free alignment of the asymmetric-top acetone molecule. Our study shows that the production of postpulse aligned molecules in a dense sample (0.05-0.2 bar) of room-temperature acetone using a single-pulse excitation can be significantly improved by rotational alignment echoes induced in a two-pulse excitation scheme. We report the observation of fractional echoes that can be used to reveal the nonlinearity of the molecular system. In a proof-of-principle experiment, a pre-aligned sample of acetone is also used for third-harmonic generation. The analysis of the experimental data with numerical simulations based …
Acetone Vapor-Sensing Properties of Chitosan-Polyethylene Glycol Using Surface Plasmon Resonance Technique
2020
To non-invasively monitor and screen for diabetes in patients, there is need to detect low concentration of acetone vapor in the range from 1.8 ppm to 5 ppm, which is the concentration range of acetone vapor in diabetic patients. This work presents an investigation for the utilization of chitosan-polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor in the detection of trace concentration acetone vapor in the range of breath acetone in diabetic subjects. The structure, morphology, and elemental composition of the chitosan-PEG sensing layer were characterized using FTIR, UV-VIS, FESEM, EDX, AFM, and XPS methods. Response testing was conducted using low concentration of aceto…
