Solid bone tumors of the spine: Diagnostic performance of apparent diffusion coefficient measured using diffusion-weighted MRI using histology as a r…
2017
Purpose To assess the diagnostic performance of mean apparent diffusion coefficient (mADC) in differentiating benign from malignant bone spine tumors, using histology as a reference standard. Conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sequences have good reliability in evaluating spinal bone tumors, although some features of benign and malignant cancers may overlap, making the differential diagnosis challenging. Materials and Methods In all, 116 patients (62 males, 54 females; mean age 59.5 ± 14.1) with biopsy-proven spinal bone tumors were studied. Field strength/sequences: 1.5T MR system; T1-weighted turbo spin-echo (repetition time / echo time [TR/TE], 500/13 msec; number of excitatio…
Reliability of different models to assess heart rate recovery after submaximal bicycle exercise.
2011
Abstract Objectives : Different models to assess HR recovery have been developed but knowledge of their reliability is poor at different submaximal exercise intensities and recovery durations. Our aim was to determine the reliability of HR recovery after a test on a cycle ergometer. Design : Twenty-one healthy individuals performed a submaximal exercise at 65% and 80% HR max followed by passive recovery. The exercise was repeated (retest) within 2 weeks to assess reliability. Method : HR recovery was assessed by 8 models, based on monoexponential kinetics or absolute recovery (recovered HR at fix time points). Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and standard error of measurement (SEM, …
Meniscal ramp lesions: diagnostic performance of MRI with arthroscopy as reference standard
2021
Abstract Background The posteromedial meniscal region is gaining interest among orthopedic surgeons, as lesions of this area has been reported to be significantly associated with anterior cruciate ligament tears. The current imaging literature is unclear. Purpose To evaluate the diagnostic performance of MR in the detection of meniscal ramp lesions having arthroscopy as reference standard. Materials and methods We retrospectively included 56 patients (mean age of 25 ± 7 years; 14 females) from January to November 2017 with a arthroscopically proved ACL tear and posterior meniscocapsular separation. On preoperative MRI, two radiologists with 13 and 2 years’ experience in musculoskeletal imag…
Reliability and validity study of the Finnish version of the Chronic Pain Acceptance Questionnaire (CPAQ).
2012
Acceptance has been discovered to be successful in improving quality of life when adjusting to chronic pain. Instead of avoiding and controlling the pain, the goal is to confront the pain and to live a value directed life. Thus far, there has not been an instrument in Finnish to assess the acceptance of chronic pain. This study aimed at translating the Chronic Pain Acceptance Questionnaire-(CPAQ)-into Finnish and assessing its reliability and validity.Eighty-one persons with different types of chronic pain responded to the CPAQ, the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), RAND-36 and questions of sociodemographic and pain-related variables. The responders' ages varied from 16 to 83 years (mean = 48…
Striatal and extrastriatal D2/D3-receptor-binding properties of ziprasidone: a positron emission tomography study with [18F]Fallypride and [11C]raclo…
2008
To elucidate the Batypicality( of ziprasidone, its striatal and extrastriatal D2/D3-receptor binding was characterized in patients with schizophrenia under steady-state conditions. These data were compared with striatal receptor occupancy values after single-dose ziprasidone ingestion in healthy controls. ( 18 F)fallypride positron emission tomography (PET) recordings were obtained in 15 patients under steady-state ziprasidone treatment at varying time points after the last dose. Binding potentials were calculated for striatal and extrastriatal regions. D2/D3-receptor occupancies were expressed relative to binding potentials in 8 unmedicated patients. In a parallel ( 11 C)raclopride-PET stu…
Spanish Version of the Knowledge and Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain.
2019
A variety of valid tools are available to assess staff knowledge and attitudes regarding pain, among which is the Knowledge and Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain. Although this instrument has been widely and successfully used, a valid and adapted Spanish version is yet to be developed. The purpose of this study was to validate the Spanish version of the Knowledge and Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain. After translating and back-translating this tool, we conducted a cross-cultural adaptation and construct validation with 102 participants, including nursing professionals (in palliative care, oncology, and intensive care) from five health centers and final-year nursing students. All participants w…
Tentacle-shaped mesh for fixation-free repair of umbilical hernias
2019
Purpose: Mesh fixation and broad overlap represent an open issue in umbilical hernia repair. A proprietary-designed implant with tentacle straps at its boundary has been developed to ensure a suture-free repair and a broader coverage of the abdominal wall. The study describes the results of umbilical hernia procedures carried out with the tentacle-shaped implant and the related surgical technique. Methods: A proprietary tentacle-shaped flat mesh having a central body with integrated radiating arms at its edge was used to repair large umbilical hernias in 62 patients. The implant was placed in preperitoneal sublay. The friction of the straps, crossing the abdominal wall thanks to a special n…
Five times sit-to-stand test in subjects with total knee replacement: Reliability and relationship with functional mobility tests
2017
The objective was to determine the inter-observer and test/retest reliability of the "Five-repetition sit-to-stand" (5STS) test in patients with total knee replacement (TKR). To explore correlation between 5STS and two mobility tests. A reliability study was conducted among 24 (mean age 72.13, S.D. 10.67; 50% were women) outpatients with TKR. They were recruited from a traumatology unit of a public hospital via convenience sampling. A physiotherapist and trauma physician assessed each patient at the same time. The same physiotherapist realized a 5STS second measurement 45-60min after the first one. Reliability was assessed with intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and Bland-Altman plo…
In the Identification of Cardiovascular Risk With the SCORE Model, Could We Recommend Its Calculation Interchangeably With Total Cholesterol or Ather…
2011
The SCORE table indiscriminately recommends the use of total cholesterol (SCORE-TC) or atherogenic index (SCORE-AI) for calculating cardiovascular (CV) risk. We evaluated reliability and agreement between both methods and the clinical implications for the identification of high CV risk. Observational study (n = 8942) in a 40- to 65-year-old population. Spearman’s Rho correlation was 0.987 (P < .001), the agreement intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.671 (IC 95% 0.413–0.796; with Bland–Altman’s method, the average of the differences between models was 0.74. Kappa index was poor, 0.297 (P < .001) and positive specific agreement was 0.31. Discrepancies fitted individuals with high CV risk…
Neck semispinalis capitis muscle size in sitting and prone positions measured by real-time ultrasonography.
1998
Objective: To examine the reliability of measurements of semispinalis capitis muscle (SECM) cross-sectional area (CSA) in prone and sitting positions, and to compare the muscle size in these two positions. Design: Semispinalis capitis CSA was measured twice a day on two successive days with a real-time ultrasound apparatus. Subjects: Eighteen males (aged 19–34 years) and 28 females (aged 19–34 years) were studied for the reliability test. Seven males and 12 females were randomly selected to compare SECM size in sitting and prone positions. Results: The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) for repeatability measurements was r = 0.98 for the two positions. The correlation of the CSA in s…
