Free boundary methods and non-scattering phenomena

We study a question arising in inverse scattering theory: given a penetrable obstacle, does there exist an incident wave that does not scatter? We show that every penetrable obstacle with real-analytic boundary admits such an incident wave. At zero frequency, we use quadrature domains to show that there are also obstacles with inward cusps having this property. In the converse direction, under a nonvanishing condition for the incident wave, we show that there is a dichotomy for boundary points of any penetrable obstacle having this property: either the boundary is regular, or the complement of the obstacle has to be very thin near the point. Prenatal diazepam exposure functionally alters the GABA(A) receptor that modulates [3H]noradrenaline release from rat hippocampal synaptosomes.

In rats, exposure to diazepam (DZ) during the last week of gestation is associated with behavioral alterations (in some cases sexually dimorphic) that appear when the animals reach adulthood. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of prenatal DZ exposure on the function of the gamma-aminobutyric (GABA)(A) receptor complex. Obstacle Detection in an Unstructured Industrial Robotic System: Comparison of Hidden Markov Model and Expert System

Abstract This paper presents a comparison of two approaches for detecting unknown obstacles inside the workspace of an industrial robot using a laser rangefinder for 2-D measurements. The two approaches are based on Expert System (ES) and Hidden Markov Model (HMM). The results presented in the paper demonstrate that both approaches are able to correctly detect and classify unknown objects. The ES is characterised by low computational requirements and an easy setup when relatively few known objects are to be included inside the workspace. [(18)F]Fallypride ([(18)F]FP) is an important and routinely used D2/D3 antagonist for quantitative imaging of dopaminergic neurotransmission in vivo. Recently it was shown that the brain uptake of the structurally related [(11)C]raclopride is modulated by P-glycoprotein (P-gp), an important efflux transporter at the blood-brain barrier. Demethanization of aqueous anaerobic effluents using a polydimethylsiloxane membrane module: Mass transfer, fouling and feasibility

Abstract The performance, fouling and feasibility of a polydimethylsiloxane hollow fibre membrane module for in situ methane degasification from the effluent of an Expanded Granular Sludge Bed anaerobic reactor has been investigated. Experiments at different operational conditions were carried out (liquid flow, sweep gas flow and vacuum pressure) with maximum removal efficiency (77%) at lowest flow-rate (0.4 L h−1), highest vacuum gauge pressure (−800 mbar) and liquid flowing in lumen side. Functional evidence for GABA as modulator of the contractility of the longitudinal muscle in mouse duodenum: Role of GABAA and GABAC receptors

We investigated, in vitro, the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) on the spontaneous mechanical activity of the longitudinal smooth muscle in mouse duodenum. GABA induced an excitatory effect, consisting in an increase in the basal tone, which was antagonized by the GABA(A)-receptor antagonist, bicuculline, potentiated by (1,2,5,6-Tetrahydropyridin-4-yl)methylphosphinic acid hydrate (TPMPA), a GABA(C)-receptor antagonist and it was not affected by phaclofen, a GABA(B)-receptor antagonist. Content quality assessment and acceptance testing in location‐based services

In this paper, we develop and evaluate an approach to assessing the content quality in a location‐based service (LBS). The proposed approach, instead of assessing the quality in absolute terms such as completeness or accuracy, measures the effect that the imperfection of the content is having on the reliability of that specific LBS. Behavioral studies have shown that a blind fish is capable of detecting and recognizing stationary objects in its surroundings. It is proposed that the displacement of water caused by the fish as it moves is the basis for this detection capability. Alterations in the displacement of water around the fish, caused by the obstacle, act as stimuli for the lateral line organ.
