Repeatability of the resonance frequency analysis values in implants with a new technology
2019
Background Assess the reliability (by means of reproducibility and repeatability) of the PenguinRFA system, analyse the ISQ values of different implant types and correlate the ISQ with the insertion torque during the placement of the implant. Material and Methods 120 rough surface implants were placed in bovine bone (type II and III). The implants were divided into groups, according to its design. Once the implants were in place, the exact insertion torque was registered. Then, primary stability was measured by means of the resonance frequency analysis with the PenguinRFA and the Osstell ISQ devices. In each implant two transducers of each device were used. Three measurements were obtained …
Photothermal Ablation of Cancer Cells Using Folate-Coated Gold/ Graphene Oxide Composite
2017
Objective: A new tumor targeted polymer-coated gold/graphene hybrid has been developed for achieving simultaneously thermoablation and chemoterapy of folate receptor-positive cancer cells. Methods: The gold/graphene hybrid was prepared by depositing gold nanospheres onto graphene oxide and coating it with an inulin-folate conjugate. Paclitaxel was loaded by sonication. The hybrid was characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, DSC analysis and SEM microscopy. The cytotoxicity, thermoablation and anticancer activity were evaluated in vitro on MCF-7 and 16 HBE. Results: In vitro tests showed that the paclitaxel-loaded hybrid improved the effectiveness of the drug especially after photothermal treat…
A Stochastic Search on the Line-Based Solution to Discretized Estimation
2012
Published version of a chapter in the book: Advanced Research in Applied Artificial Intelligence. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-31087-4_77 Recently, Oommen and Rueda [11] presented a strategy by which the parameters of a binomial/multinomial distribution can be estimated when the underlying distribution is nonstationary. The method has been referred to as the Stochastic Learning Weak Estimator (SLWE), and is based on the principles of continuous stochastic Learning Automata (LA). In this paper, we consider a new family of stochastic discretized weak estimators pertinent to tracking time-varying binomial distributions. As opposed to the SLWE, our p…

Experiments on a Prey Predators System
2003
The paper describes a prey-predators system devoted to perform experiments on concurrent complex environment. The problem has be treated as an optimization problem. The prey goal is to escape from the predators reaching its lair, while predators want to capture the prey. At the end of the 19th century, Pareto found an optimal solutions for decision problems regarding more than one criterion at the same time. In most cases this ‘Pareto-set’ cannot be determined analytically or the computation time could be exponential. In such cases, evolutionary Algorithms (EA) are powerful optimization tools capable of finding optimal solutions of multi-modal problems. Here, both prey and predators learn i…
A Projected Algebraic Multigrid Method for Linear Complementarity Problems
2011
We present an algebraic version of an iterative multigrid method for obstacle problems, called projected algebraic multigrid (PAMG) here. We show that classical AMG algorithms can easily be extended to deal with this kind of problem. This paves the way for efficient multigrid solution of obstacle problems with partial differential equations arising, for example, in financial engineering.
On smoothing problems with one additional equality condition
2009
Two problems of approximation in Hilbert spaces are considered with one additional equality condition: the smoothing problem with a weight and the smoothing problem with an obstacle. This condition is a generalization of the equality, which appears in the problem of approximation of a histogram in a natural way. We characterize the solutions of these smoothing problems and investigate the connection between them. First published online: 14 Oct 2010
A Boundary Control Approach to an Optimal Shape Design Problem
1989
Abstract We consider the problem of controlling the coincidence set in connection with an obstacle problem. We shall transform the obtained optimal shape design problem into a boundary control problem with Dirichlet boundary conditions.
Robotic path planning for non-destructive testing – A custom MATLAB toolbox approach
2016
AbstractThe requirement to increase inspection speeds for non-destructive testing (NDT) of composite aerospace parts is common to many manufacturers. The prevalence of complex curved surfaces in the industry provides motivation for the use of 6 axis robots in these inspections. The purpose of this paper is to present work undertaken for the development of a KUKA robot manipulator based automated NDT system. A new software solution is presented that enables flexible trajectory planning to be accomplished for the inspection of complex curved surfaces often encountered in engineering production. The techniques and issues associated with conventional manual inspection techniques and automated s…
