Laparoscopic lymph node dissection should be performed before fertility preserving treatment of patients with cervical cancer
2012
Objective: The aim of this study is to assess our results of treatment of women with stage I cervical cancer > 2 cm in diameter seeking fertility preservation. Treatment consisted of Laparoscopic Pelvic and Paraaortic Lymphadenectomy (LPPLND), and when no nodal metastasis was detected, neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) followed by radical vaginal trachelectomy (RVT). Patients with positive lymph nodes underwent primary chemoradiation. Methods: A cohort of women younger than 40 years of age with stage I disease > 2 cm who underwent LPPLND and either NACT and RVT or chemoradiation. Oncological outcome was evaluated prospectively. Results: Eighteen women were eligible for this study. Twelve (67%…
Jesu oppstandelse og naturlovene
2012
Author's version of an article published in the journal: Norsk filosofisk tidsskrift. Also available from the publisher at: http://www.idunn.no/ts/nft/2012/04/jesu_oppstandelse_og_naturlovene In this article, I defend the possibility of understanding the resurrection of Jesus as an event within the framework of natural laws. In this way, the resurrection is not necessarily contrary to Natural Science or belief in the existence of Natural laws. I offer, at the same time, a critique of one of David Hume's arguments against the belief in miracles.
The study of climate change in Primary Education: an exploration from Social Science textbooks in the Valencian Community
2020
Sustainable Higher Education and Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL)
2018
The field of education is not immune to advances in sophisticated information and communication technology (ICT). Going beyond the ICT-hype, the objective of this paper is to examine to what extent and how technology-enhanced teaching and learning (TEL) can enhance teaching and learning and, hence, turn them into levers of sustainable socio-economic growth and development. To address these questions, a multidimensional survey was developed and distributed internationally to lecturers/professors active in the field of higher education. The initial point of departure for this study was consistent with the well-referenced in the literature thesis that TEL has profound value added in view of en…
Effects of Kaolin on Ophelimus maskelli (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) in Laboratory and Nursery Experiments
2011
Although recent research has demonstrated that clays provide satisfactory control of some agricultural insect pests, the effect of clays on gall wasps that damage forest trees has not been previously reported. The aim of the current study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the clay kaolin in the laboratory and in the field in reducing the damage caused by the eulophid Ophelimus maskelli (Ashmead) on seedlings of eucalyptus (Eucalyptus L'Hér.) species. In the laboratory, kaolin + wetting agent significantly reduced the percentage of infested leaves and the number of galls per leaf. In the nursery, gall number per leaf was not correlated with leaf area with kaolin + wetting agent but was rel…
Living on the Edge: Settlement Patterns by the Symbiotic Barnacle Xenobalanus globicipitis on Small Cetaceans
2015
The highly specialized coronulid barnacle Xenobalanus globicipitis attaches exclusively on cetaceans worldwide, but little is known about the factors that drive the microhabitat patterns on its hosts. We investigate this issue based on data on occurrence, abundance, distribution, orientation, and size of X. globicipitis collected from 242 striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) that were stranded along the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Barnacles exclusively infested the fins, particularly along the trailing edge. Occurrence, abundance, and density of X. globicipitis were significantly higher, and barnacles were significantly larger, on the caudal fin than on the flippers and dorsal fin. Ba…
Delfos: the Oracle to Predict NextWeb User's Accesses
2007
Despite the wide and intensive research efforts focused on Web prediction and prefetching techniques aimed to reduce user's perceived latency, few attempts to implement and use them in real environments have been done, mainly due to their complexity and supposed limitations that low user available bandwidths imposed few years ago. Nevertheless, current user bandwidths open a new scenario for prefetching that becomes again an interesting option to improve web performance. This paper presents Delfos, a framework to perform web predictions and prefetching on a real environment that tries to cover the existing gap between research and praxis. Delfos is integrated in the web architecture without…
Wittgenstein, constructor de modelos
2013
For Wittgenstein, the philosophical working was an enlightening tool in order to disclose the conceptual conditions of the linguistic meaning. The aim of the first part of the paper is to show the relevant role that Wittgenstein gave to m…
Irregular Time Dependent Obstacles
2010
Abstract We study the obstacle problem for the Evolutionary p-Laplace Equation when the obstacle is discontinuous and does not have regularity in the time variable. Two quite different procedures yield the same solution.
