The bioengineered tissue plasminogen activator tenecteplase is an important treatment modality of acute myocardial infarction recommended by international guidelines. Following introduction of originator tenecteplase (brand names Metalyse(®) and TNKase(®)), a "biosimilar" tenecteplase became available for commercial use in India under the brand name Elaxim(®) in the absence of Indian biosimilar guidelines which came into force from September 15th, 2012. The inhibitor/activator and substrate properties of enantiomers of two methylated histamines (MH) were investigated using a histamine methyltransferase preparation which was purified 1207-fold from pig fundic mucosa by ultracentrifugation, ion-exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose and preparative electrofocusing. In 1-100 microM concentrations, S-alpha-MH and R-alpha-MH were acceptor substrates as good as histamine itself. When substrate concentrations were increased to 1 mM these substances were methylated to an even greater extent than histamine, since they did not exert substrate inhibition on HMT. Changes induced by pravastatin treatment on hemostatic and fibrinolytic patterns in patients with type IIb hyperlipoproteinemia

Abstract A randomized, double-blind, parallel-group study of pravastatin versus placebo was carried out for 24 weeks in 20 patients with type IIb primary hyperlipoproteinemia. Total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, blood glucose, apolipoproteins (apo) A1 and B, and lipoprotein (a) (Lp[a]) levels were determined. A venous occlusion test was also performed in all patients. Effect of gemfibrozil treatment on fibrinolysis system in patients with hypertriglyceridemia

Abstract The effect of gemfibrozil on lipidic, coagulative, and fibrinolytic pattern was studied in 20 patients with primary type IV hyperlipoproteinemia. After a 4-week stabilization period during which administration of lipid-lowering drugs was stopped and an isocaloric diet (20% protein, 30% fat, and 50% carbohydrates) was prescribed, 20 patients (12 men and 8 women; mean age, 38 ± 4 years; body mass index, 23.4 ± 1.5) suffering from primary hypertriglyceridemia were included in this study and treated for a 12-week period with gemfibrozil (600 mg BID). In Vitro Analysis of the Two-Component System MtrB-MtrA from Corynebacterium glutamicum▿ †

ABSTRACT The two-component system MtrBA is involved in the osmostress response of Corynebacterium glutamicum . MtrB was reconstituted in a functionally active form in liposomes and showed autophosphorylation and phosphatase activity. In proteoliposomes, MtrB activity was stimulated by monovalent cations used by many osmosensors for the detection of hypertonicity. Although MtrB was activated by monovalent cations, they lead in vitro to a general stabilization of histidine kinases and do not represent the stimulus for MtrB to sense hyperosmotic stress.

Tyrosine-phosphorylation-dependent and Rho-protein-mediated control of cellular phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate levels

The polyphosphoinositide PtdIns(4,5)P2, best known as a substrate for phospholipase C isozymes, has recently been recognized to be involved in a variety of other cellular processes. The aim of this study was to examine whether the cellular levels of this versatile phospholipid are controlled by tyrosine phosphorylation. The studies were performed in human embryonic kidney (HEK)-293 cells stably expressing the M3 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor. Abstract Glasses with composition 50GeO 2 –(50 −  x )PbO–5PbF 2 – x LnF 3 (Ln = Pr 3+ , Nd 3+ , Sm 3+ , Eu 3+ ) were synthesised in the bulk form. The content of PbF 2 was constant and amounted to 5 mol% whereas, the concentration of luminescent ions was 0.2 and 2 mol%. Spectroscopic properties (absorption, emission) of optically active ions were studied at room temperature. Oscillator strengths have been used to calculate phenomenological intensity parameters Ω 2,4,6 . Super-critical and sub-critical bifurcations in a reaction-diffusion Schnakenberg model with linear cross-diffusion

In this paper the Turing pattern formation mechanism of a two components reaction-diffusion system modeling the Schnakenberg chemical reaction is considered. In Ref. (Madzavamuse et al., J Math Biol 70(4):709–743, 2015) it was shown how the presence of linear cross-diffusion terms favors the destabilization of the constant steady state. We perform the weakly nonlinear multiple scales analysis to derive the equations for the amplitude of the Turing patterns and to show how the cross-diffusion coefficients influence the occurrence of super-critical or sub-critical bifurcations. Type V collagen regulates the expression of apoptotic and stress response genes by breast cancer cells.

Type V collagen is a "minor" component of normal human breast stroma, which is subjected to over-deposition in cases of ductal infiltrating carcinoma (DIC). We reported that, if used as a culture substrate for the DIC cell line 8701-BC, it exhibited poorly-adhesive properties and restrained the proliferative and motile behavior of the cell subpopulation able to attach onto it.
