Definition of the thermographic regions of interest in cycling by using a factor analysis

Abstract Research in exercise physiology using infrared thermography has increased in the last years. However, the definition of the Regions of Interest (ROIs) varies strongly between studies. Therefore, the aim of this study was to use a factor analysis approach to define highly correlated groups of thermographic ROIs during a cycling test. Factor analyses were performed based on the moment of measurement and on the variation of skin temperatures as a result of the cycling exercise. 19 male participants cycled during 45 min at 50% of their individual peak power output with a cadence of 90 rpm. Anti-swing control of a hydraulic loader crane with a hanging load

Abstract In this paper, anti-swing control for a hydraulic loader crane is presented. The difference between hydraulic and electric cranes are discussed to show the challenges associated with hydraulic actuation. The hanging load dynamics and relevant kinematics of the crane are derived to create the 2-DOF anti-swing controller. The anti-swing controller is added to the electro-hydraulic motion controller via feedforward. A dynamic simulation model of the crane is made, and the control system is evaluated in simulations with a path controller in actuator space. Quasi-Static Displacement Self-Sensing Measurement for a 2-DOF Piezoelectric Cantilevered Actuator

This paper proposes a self-sensing measurement technique to perform the precise estimation of the displacements along two axes in a two-degrees-of-freedom (2-DOF) piezoelectric actuator. For that, a new electrical circuit scheme that permits charge amplification is first proposed to match the different electrodes combination of the 2-DOF actuator. Then, a new bivariable observer that precisely estimates the displacements is calculated and implemented experimentally in a cascade with the electrical circuit to complete the self-sensing. The controlled operation of hydraulic machines with multiple degrees of freedom is challenging due to complex nonlinear dynamics of cylinder actuators, in addition to multibody dynamics like in the case of hydraulic manipulators. Metaheuristic procedures for the lexicographic bottleneck assembly line balancing problem

The goal of this work is to develop an improved procedure for the solution of the lexicographic bottleneck variant of the assembly line balancing problem (LB-ALBP). The objective of the LB-ALBP is to minimize the workload of the most heavily loaded workstation, followed by the workload of the second most heavily loaded workstation and so on. This problem-recently introduced to the literature (Pastor, 2011)-has practical relevance to manufacturing facilities.
