Proliferative response of CD4+ T cells and hepatitis B virus clearance in chronic hepatitis with or without hepatitis B e-minus hepatitis B virus mut…
1995
To assess the significance of cell-mediated immunity, T cells were derived from the peripheral blood and liver tissue of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-infected patients and controls. The analysis of the 3H-thymidine-uptake in response to a panel of recombinant HBV antigens revealed that peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of the 25 viremic patients with inflammatory active, chronic hepatitis B, 16 with wild-type and nine with HBe-minus HBV mutant infection, showed stronger proliferative responses to HBc and HBe antigens than 16 asymptomatic nonviremic HBsAg carriers with normal aminotransferase levels (HBc: SI 19.3 +/- 3.9 vs. 13.0 +/- 3.2 vs. 8.0 +/- 1.2; P.01 and HBe: SI 16.6 +/- 4.0 vs. …
Estimation of the degrading genetic potential of soil bacterial communities: a new tool for evaluating and predicting soil contamination by organic m…
2007
During the last two centuries, industrialisation has led to increasing contamination of the environment by xenobiotics, notably aromatic compounds (i.e. PAHs, pesticides). These widespread pollutants are a major threat affecting soil quality and human health. In this context, numerous policies have been drawn up notably in Europe, to monitor the threats of pollution to ecosystems and to detect and implement measures to counterbalance the damage. Nevertheless, the European Commission and scientific community are still confronted with a lack of appropriate tools to monitor biodiversity in relation to environmental processes affecting global warming and soil protection. This study proposes too…
Whole-epigenome analysis in multiple myeloma reveals DNA hypermethylation of B cell-specific enhancers
2015
Abstract Analyzing the DNA methylome of multiple myeloma (MM), a plasma cell neoplasm, by whole-genome bisulfite sequencing and high-density arrays, we observed regional DNA hypermethylation embedded in extensive global hypomethylation. In contrast to the widely reported DNA hypermethylation of promoter-associated CpG islands (CGIs) in cancer, hypermethylated sites in MM as compared to normal plasma cells were located outside CpG islands and were unexpectedly associated with intronic enhancer regions active in normal B cells. Both RNA-seq and in vitro reporter assays indicated that enhancer hypermethylation is globally associated with downregulation of its host genes. ChIP-seq and DNAseI-se…
First Records, New Species, and a Key of the Charipinae (Hymenoptera: Cynipoidea: Figitidae) from the Nearctic Region
2014
Abstract The Charipinae material deposited in the United States National Museum of Natural History (Smithsonian Institution) and some specimens deposited in the Canadian National Collection of Insects from the Nearctic region have been revised. In all, 337 specimens have been included in this study and 27 species have been determined. Sixteen species are reported for the first time from the Nearctic region: Alloxysta arcuata (Kieffer, 1902), Alloxysta brevis (Thomson, 1862), Alloxysta castanea (Hartig, 1841), Alloxysta citripes (Thomson, 1862), Alloxysta darci (Girault, 1933), Alloxysta fracticornis (Thomson, 1862), Alloxysta halterata (Thomson, 1862), Alloxysta macrophadna (Hartig, 1841), …
Diurnal changes in the perception of emotions in music: Does the time of day matter?
2014
According to the Hindustani music tradition, the ability of a song to induce certain emotions depends on the time of day: playing a song at the right time is said to maximise its emotional effect. The present exploratory study investigated this claim by combining findings in chronobiology, mood research and music perception. It has already been established that some aspects of our mood fluctuations follow a cyclical pattern. Besides, it is a known fact that our current mood influences our perception and assessment of emotions. However, these elements have never been linked together in a study examining the effect of mood cyclicity on perceived emotions in music. To test the hypothesis of a…
Positive mood induction and well being
2009
The aim of this study is to test the role of consecutive positive mood induction virtual procedures on satisfaction of life of people with subclinical levels of sadness and/or anxiety. This is a work in progress and positive effects of mood induction on satisfaction and well being are expected.
La víctima en el mundo hispánico. Su definición a través del paradigma Barroco
2015
Abstract: This article studies the femicide in Ciudad Juarez and the struggle of families of desaparecidos during the Argentina’ dictatorship (1973-1983). The analysis shows how the paradigm of the Baroque / baroque serves as archive and repertoire for the conceptualization of a “victim” in the Hispanic world. …
Low frequency of cytotoxic liver-infiltrating T lymphocytes specific for endogenous processed surface and core proteins in chronic hepatitis B.
1993
To investigate the role of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-specific CD8+ T cells in chronic hepatitis B, the lytic activity of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) and liver-infiltrating T cell clones and cytotoxic T cell (CTL) lines stimulated by recombinant vaccinia virus-infected cells were analyzed. Autologous and allogeneic Epstein-Barr virus-transformed B cells infected with vaccinia vectors (VAC) that contain sequences of the surface (S), secretory core (E), cytoplasmatic core (C) VAC antigen of HBV, or the wild-type (WT) VAC served as target cells. ELISA and immunoblotting showed HBV antigen expression in infected cells. Neither PBMC nor C- or E-VAC-stimulated CTL lines showed specific…
