Archeologia dziewiętnastowiecznej pamięci w insurekcyjnym tryptyku Jarosława Iwaszkiewicza ("Noc czerwcowa", "Zarudzie", "Heydenreich")
2013
Three short “insurrection” stories written by Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz in the years 1963–1974 have inspired various interpretations; it seems, however, that there are still many undeciphered codes, references, and allusions. The author’s metatextual comments as well as the implicit poetics of the stories make it possible to consider them as a dialogue with the historical, cultural and aesthetic heritage of the 19th century: as a form of its literary archeology. The article deals with many literary and aesthetic conventions employed in the stories, with the emphasis on the concept of sérénité and on various associations with 19th-century art. Notably, the scope of analysis includes such motifs …
Przyczynek do kwestii estetycznej około roku 1897
2017
A ąuestionnaire on “the essence and goal of a novel” published in 1897 in “Kurier Niedzielny” is an interesting documentation of aesthetic views of writers and literary critics in the late 19th century. Representatives of all literary generations of that time - from pre-positivists through two generations of Polish positivists to Young Poland writers - speak in favor of moderate aestheticism protesting against bias in literaturę and defend the autonomy of an artist. Quotes from participants exhibit good command of both idealistic (post-Hegel) aesthetic tradition and emotionalistic concepts of Positivism. They also foreshadow aesthetic predilection of Modemism. They do not provide an in-dept…
Efficiency of H center stabilization in alkali halide crystals at low-temperature uniaxial deformation
2020
The efficiency of stabilization of H centers as well as its dependence on the degree of uniaxial deformation are considered within the framework of the modified geometric model of alkali halides. It is shown that stabilization of H centers is difficult in KI and RbI crystals, while in other NaCl-type crystals it becomes quite probable. Under uniaxial deformation, the interstitial space, in which the defect will be located, decreases, and the efficiency decrease. In the case of cesium halides, the orientation of the H centers takes place predominantly in the direction; therefore, the criteria for their stabilization differ from the NaCl-type alkali halide crystals. According to calculations,…
Hydrogen plasma induced photoelectron emission from low work function cesium covered metal surfaces
2017
Experimental results of hydrogen plasma induced photoelectron emission from cesium covered metal surfaces under ion source relevant conditions are reported. The transient photoelectron current during the Cs deposition process is measured from Mo, Al, Cu, Ta, Y, Ni, and stainless steel (SAE 304) surfaces. The photoelectron emission is 2–3.5 times higher at optimal Cs layer thickness in comparison to the clean substrate material. Emission from the thick layer of Cs is found to be 60%–80% lower than the emission from clean substrates. peerReviewed
Ion-Pair Complexation with Dibenzo[21]Crown-7 and Dibenzo[24]Crown-8 bis-Urea Receptors
2016
Synthesis and ion-pair complexation properties of novel ditopic bis-urea receptors based on dibenzo[21]crown-7 (R(1) ) and dibenzo[24]crown-8 (R(2) ) scaffolds have been studied in the solid state, solution, and gas phase. In a 4:1 CDCl3 /[D6 ]DMSO solution, both receptors clearly show positive heterotropic cooperativity toward halide anions when complexed with Rb(+) or Cs(+) , with the halide affinity increasing in order I(-) <Br(-) <Cl(-) . In solution, the rubidium complexes of both receptors have higher halide affinities compared to the caesium complexes. However, Rb(+) and Cs(+) complexes of R(2) show stronger affinities toward all the studied anions compared to the corresponding catio…
The hetero-cubane structures of the heavy alkali metal tert-amyloxides [MOCMe2Et]4 (M = K, Rb, Cs)
2018
A series of alkali metal (Li–Cs) alkoxides of tert-pentanol (1,1-dimethylpropan-1-ol) have been prepared by reaction of the corresponding metal with the alcohol in n-hexane or n-heptane. The compounds were purified by vacuum sublimation and crystallised in n-hexane to produce crystals suitable for single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The structures of the potassium, rubidium, and caesium compounds revealed tetrameric units with additional intra- and intermolecular interactions between the metal atom and alkoxide methyl groups, increasing with the size of the metal involved.
Effect of NaCl road salt on the ionic composition of soils and Aesculus hippocastanum L. foliage and leaf damage intensity.
2021
AbstractWe investigated the accumulation of sodium chloride in roadside soils and common horse chestnut Aesculus hippocastanum L. under urban conditions to evaluate changes in soil and leaf ionic content and their relationship with foliar damage, considering the visual assessment of trees of the same health status. A total of 15 field sites were assessed in late June 2016. The analysis included soil granulometric composition, pH, electrical conductivity, and the content of Cl−, Na+, K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+ ions in soil and foliage samples. The results showed increased salinity and alkalization of roadside soils together with the decreased magnesium content. Foliage samples manifested significant…
Wild and cultivated mushrooms as a model of sustainable development
2013
The natural resources are currently overexploited and since 1992 the Conference of Rio de Janeiro has focused on sustainable development to safeguard our planet for future generations. The Fungi kingdom includes producers of goods and services for ecosystems and organisms widely used in the food industry. Besides, macrofungi are recognized as nontimber forest products and could be utilized as agents of environmental management through weed biocontrol and environmental improvement. Moreover, the cultivation of fungi, in particular truffles, can provide an important income in agroecosystems, especially in marginal areas, along with the development of new technologies to produce novel products…
Paisaje y nacionalismo en el primer franquismo
2016
Assuming the theoretical idea widely developed by Human Geography that landscapes are cultural constructions with the capacity to become symbolic elements within nationalist discourses, this article explores the context of early Francoism. The aim of these pages is to analyze landscape sensibility as well as the landscape idea developed by the francoist nationalist discourse by trying to draw out three inherent elements in it: first of all, following Oliver Zimmer’s work, the nationalization of nature, this is to say, the consideration that nature expresses the community’s myths, events or memories; secondly, the naturalisation of the nation, that projects upon landscapes the capacity to de…
Closely related crabs from opposite niches adopt different mechanisms to adjust oxygen transport
2008
The successful colonization of new environments is often achieved through adaptations or key innovations of existing physiological or biochemical mechanisms. The oxygen supply in marine invertebrates represent a complex and deeply integrated system which plays a fundamental role in animal adaptive plasticity. In particular, species which inhabit highly stochastic environments as shallow water or intertidal bands, have to cope with extremely different regimes of oxygen availability and effectively maintain a stable aerobic metabolism. Within this framework, we have focused on comparative physiology of Portunid Crabs hemocyanin, to evaluate the role molecular heterogeneity and functional plas…
