Biodiesel via in situ wet microalgae biotransformation: Zwitter-type ionic liquid supported extraction and transesterification

The production of biodiesel derived from microalgae is among the most forthcoming technologies that provide an ecologic alternative to fossil fuels. Herein, a method was developed that enables the direct extraction and conversion of algal oil to biodiesel without prior isolation. The reaction occurs in aqueous media catalyzed by immobilized Candida antarctica lipase B (Novozyme 435). Zwitter-type ionic liquids were used as cocatalyst to improve the selectivity and reactivity of the enzyme. In a model reaction with sunflower oil, 64% biodiesel was obtained. Bread is largely consumed and could be used as a carrier for different nutrients. Fibers play an important role in human nutrition but the bread are depleted in this nutrient. For fibers, supplementation could be used different sources. The fibers needed to be tested before their use in breadmaking. This work investigates how some commercial fibers (Exafine, Apple AF12, Potato KF 200, Oat HF 200 and Wheat WF400) influence the rheology of dough at 10 and 15 % addition. All fibers increased the water absorption and development time because of competition for water between fibers and flour component. Pythium periplocum Drechsler was isolated from some soil samples taken in the botanical garden of Tenerife, Canary Islands. This fungus has been found to be an aggressive mycoparasite of Botrytis cinerea. It is unique amongst the members of the genus Pythium because of the character combination of inflated filamentous type of sporangia and ornamented oogonia. The taxonomic description of this fungus and its comparison with related species, together with the polymerase chain reaction of the internal transcribed spacer of its nuclear ribosomal DNA, are discussed in this article.

Abstract A study has been made of the influence of caseinophosphopeptides (CPPs) added to a fruit beverage versus milk based fruit beverages upon iron retention, transport and uptake, using a combined simulated gastrointestinal digestion/Caco-2 cell system. Grape concentrate, orange concentrate, and apricot puree were used for sample formulation. International audience; The viscoelastic properties of acid milk gels containing small amounts of different fats were investigated. Skim milk was reconstituted from ultra low-heat skim milk powder and emulsions made with 2% (v/v) sunflower oil, olive oil, groundnut oil, or anhydrous milk fat using a pressure homogenizer. Acidification at 20 °C for 14 h to pH ∼4.6 was achieved by adding glucono-δ-lactone to the emulsion. Stress relaxation testing enabled determination of the firmness and the solid-like properties, i.e., elasticity. Heating accelerates oxidative rancidity and frying at high temperatures produces thermal degradation with the formation of decomposition products, such as aldehydes, ketones, free acids and hydroxilic compounds that in high levels can be harmful to human health. The separation of hydroxyaromatic compounds in vegetable oils, including synthetic antioxidants (3-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisol and 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxytoluene), E-vitamers and other natural oil components, by nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis in an oil-miscible background electrolyte (BGE) was investigated. Volatile compounds in strawberry jam : influence of cooking on volatiles

Volatile constituents of strawberry jam were identified and their olfactive impact estimated by HRGC effluent sniffing. Amounts of volatiles in jam were only slightly affected by addition of sugar, but were closely related to design of the cooker and to the pressure used. Losses by evaporation during cooking were studied. Different types of behaviour were observed for the specific aromatic components. Cooker design largely influenced flavor losses at low pressures. Condensation of vapors during cooking and incorporation of the condensate in pectin solutions could result in a more flavorfull product.
Flavour release at the interfaces of stirred fruit yoghurt models

Abstract Model matrices consisting of a pectin and a dairy gel were investigated to study the transfer of flavour compounds between the different phases of stirred fruit yoghurt. Using a full factorial experimental design, different parameters (storage temperature, initial flavour concentration in the pectin gel and fat content of the dairy gel) were studied. The kinetics of the migration of flavour compounds between the two gels were investigated using a novel SPME method, where a Carboxen/Polydimethylsiloxane fibre was directly inserted into the pectin gel.
