International audience; The discovery of at least 2 cyclo-oxygenase (COX) isoenzymes, referred to as COX-1 and COX-2, has updated our knowledge of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This has lead investigators to reconsider what can be awaited from this class of drugs. The 2 COX isoenzymes share structural and enzymatic similarities, but are specifically regulated at the molecular level and may be distinguished apart in their functions, although some physiological overlap between them does occur. Maģistra darba „Arhitektūras mantojuma saglabāšana un integrācija Rīgas pilsētbūvniecībā (1959-1992)” mērķis ir izanalizēt pilsētbūvniecisko principu realizāciju Rīgā un to ietekmi uz arhitektūras mantojuma saglabāšanas tendencēm. Pēc Otrā pasaules kara aktuāla bija jaunu celtniecības tradīciju attīstība, noliedzot līdzšinējā arhitektūras mantojuma nozīmīgumu. Īpaši Rīgas centrā, kur esošajai apbūvei tika uzsvērta vācbaltiešu un starpkaru perioda būvniecības tendenču ietekme, kas pēc toreizējās valsts ideoloģijas nostādnēm nevarēja tikt atzītas par nozīmīgām. Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) is induced in cells by various stimuli as a defense system against oxidative stress. It is known that reactive oxygen species (ROS) participates in the initiation and progression of osteoarthritis (OA) and several antioxidant systems may protect cartilage components. HO-1 induction or CO release from CORM-2 counteracts oxidative stress and protects against proinflammatory and catabolic effects of interleukin-1β in OA chondrocytes, osteoblasts, and synoviocytes as well as in OA osteochondral explants. Depressed Prostaglandin Release from Peritoneal Cells Induced by a T Cell Adjuvant, Lentinan

Abstract PGE and PGF release from peritoneal exudate cells was studied in mice after injection with two s (1–3) glucans, the antitumor active lentinan and the inactive pachyman. 4 days after injection of both polysaccharides, the spontaneous and phagocytosis-induced PGE and PGF release was markedly suppressed. However, only the immunopotentiator lentinan induced peritoneal exudate cells which exhibited a longer lasting diminished PG release. The data suggest that the T cell adjuvant lentinan may potentiate cellular immune responses by reducing synthesis of immune suppressive prostaglandins from peritoneal exudate cells.

Atbildība ir viens no mazāk pētītajiem konstruktiem saistībā ar dabai draudzīgu rīcību un nereti tiek pielīdzināts kontroles lokusam vai pētīta tiek tikai indivīda personīgā atbildība. Darba mērķis bija saprast, kas ir uztvertie atbildīgie par dabas saglabāšanu un kādas saistības pastāv starp uztvertajiem atbildīgajiem, attieksmi pret dabu un dabai draudzīgu rīcību. Lai to noskaidrotu tika veikts korelatīvi aprakstošs pētījums, kurā tika analizēti 351 respondenta sniegtie dati. To interfere therapeutically in the PGE2 pathway, however, knowledge about the involved enzymes (cyclooxygenases) and receptors (PGE2 receptors) is essential. United airway disease (UAD) concept proposed that asthma and rhinitis are both different clinical manifestation of a single inflammatory process. The aim of this study is to assess in upper and lower airways the level of inflammation and oxidative stress and to investigate the relationship between biomarkers in persistent allergic rhinitis (PER) and in concomitant asthma with PER.
