Metaphycus sp. nr. flavus (Encyrtidae: Hymenoptera) is a parasitoid species collected from the Mediterranean region which lays its eggs in the immature stages of several economically important soft scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccidae), including brown soft scale, Coccus hesperidum L. (= host insect). Preliminary tests suggested that the parasitoid is most successful in producing offspring when it oviposits in the younger stages of brown soft scale. In Y-olfactometer bioassays measuring wasp choices and residence times, naïve parasitoids were significantly more attracted to yucca leaves infested with 26, 27, or 28 d-old scale than to uninfested leaves, whereas leaves with older (29-30 d-old) …

. The semiochemical cues used by geographically isolated strains of the parasitoid, Telenomus podisi (Ashmed), to find eggs of the stink bug Euschistus heros were investigated. Two strains of Te. podisi, maintained on eggs of a South American host (E. heros) were studied. One parasitoid strain originated from specimens collected near Brasilia, Brazil (SA strain), and a second strain originated from specimens collected at Beltsville, Maryland (NA strain). The response of the generalist egg parasitoid Ooencyrtus telenomicida (Vassiliev) (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) to host-related chemical cues from tomato plants, Solanum lycopersicum L., and adults of Nezara viridula (L.) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) was investigated in laboratory-based no-choice and paired-choice tests. The responses of females of the egg parasitoid Trissolcus basalis (Wollaston) (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) to volatile and contact chemicals from its host Nezara viridula (L.) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) were investigated in a Y-tube olfactometer and under open arena conditions. In the Y-tube tests, volatiles from virgin males and from females in a preovipositional state attracted T. basalis females, while volatiles from host virgin females did not. The concept of ‘liturgical year’ indicates a reference to the meaning of the measuring units of civil time, and especially to the cosmic entities that determine the general rhythm of time – the sun and the moon. Interestingly, the liturgical time depends both on the structure of civil time, and, on the two discrete systems of the solar and lunar cycles, which have always been underpinnings of time measuring. Jūrmalas zilpodze (Eryngium maritimum L.) ir Latvijā reti sastopama un apdraudēta augu suga. Pēdējās desmitgadēs sugas izplatības areāla ziemeļaustrumu daļā zilpodzes indivīdu skaits un izplatība ir samazinājies. Par galveno iemeslu tam uzskata problēmas ar ģeneratīvo vairošanos. Ar anatomiskās izpētes palīdzību secināja, ka zilpodzes saknes satur veģetatīvās vairošanās struktūras. Audu kultūru eksperimentos noskaidroja, ka zilpodzes sakņu ievadīšanai piemērotākā apstrāde ir ar HgCl2, bet zilpodzes pavairošanai un apsakņošanai piemērotākā ir Murashige & Skoog barotnes modifikācija ar pievienotu 6-benzilaminopurīnu. Sējas kaņepes (Cannabis sativ, L.) ir lauksaimniecībā nozīmīgs kultūraugs. Eiropas Savienības valstīs, arī Latvijā strauji pieaug interese par kaņepju audzēšanu. Pašlaik Latvijā nav savas sējas kaņepju šķirnes, kas būtu piemērotas sēklu iegūšanai. Jaunu šķirņu ātrākai iegūšanai ļoti nozīmīgas ir in vitro metodes, molekulāro metodžu izmantošana un iekļaušana selekcijas shēmā, tādēļ šim darbam ir sekojošs mērķis: vietējo kaņepju ‘Pūriņi’ in vitro kultivēšana, augu ģenētiskās daudzveidības un ploiditātes noteikšana, metilēšanas noteikšanas metodes izstrāde Δ12 un Δ15 desaturāzes gēnam.
