N-Heterocyclic Phosphenium, Arsenium, and Stibenium Ions as Ligands in Transition Metal Complexes: A Comparative Experimental and Computational Study

2005

Reaction of 2-chloro-1,3,2-diazaarsolenes and -diazaphospholenes with Tl[Co(CO)4] gives instable complexes of type [Co(ER2)(CO)4] which decarbonylated to yield [Co(ER2)(CO)3]. Spectroscopic and X-ray diffraction studies revealed that the tetracarbonyl complexes can be formulated as ion pair for E = P and as covalent metalla-arsine for E = As, and the tricarbonyl complexes as carbene-like species with a formal E=Co double bond. A similar reactivity towards Tl[Co(CO)4] was also inferred for 1,3,2-diazastibolenes although the products were not isolable and their constitution remained uncertain. Evaluation of structural and computational data suggests that the weak and polarized Co–As bond in […

On the Ion-Pair Recognition and Indication Features of a Fluorescent Heteroditopic Host Based on a BODIPY Core

2014

A fluorescent heteroditopic host for ion pairs and zwitterionic species has been synthesized. Its affinity towards a series of anions, cations and ion pairs in acetonitrile has been assessed, and the spectroscopic response has been evaluated. Solid–liquid extraction experiments of inorganic salts, α-amino acids and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) into acetonitrile solutions were performed, and the resulting complexes were analyzed by UV/Vis absorption, fluorescence and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The discrimination patterns observed have been rationalized in terms of the molecular topologies of the host and guests.

Professor of history of the art Felipe María Garín Ortiz of Taranco, between career and University and social

2013

Felipe María Garín Ortiz de Taranco this paper explores the University and social trajectory of art history professor, to view as from t…

Job seeker's spatial equilibrium in a fuzzy mathematical framework

1990

This paper incorporates complex behavior in a job seeking strategy model. Since the state of information is imperfect, a job seeker faces an imprecise labor market. His behavior is fuzzy and variable. It is shown how this complex behavior can be described by fuzzy subsets theory and bifurcation analysis. The latter examines the discontinuous phenomena. Then it is proved that a job seeker’s fuzzy equilibrium with a spatial constraint exists.

Geographical economics and regional integration (what lessons for Central and Eastern European countries ?)

1998

THIS PAPER AIMS TO SHOW HOW EU-INTEGRATION OF THE CENTRAL AND ORIENTAL EUROPEAN COUNTRIES WOULD MODIFY THE GROWTH OF EUROPEAN REGIONS. WE DEMONSTRATE THAT « NEW ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY » AND « NEW GROWTH THEORIES » TOGETHER ARE WELL SUITED TO UNDERSTAND AND EXPLAIN VARIOUS PHENOMENA ASSOCIATED WITH EUROPEAN INTEGRATION POLICIES. WE SHOW THAT THESE POLICIES WILL BE PROFITABLE TO GROWTH BUT WILL REINFORCE THE UROPEAN CORE-PERIPHERY GEOGRAPHIC PATTERN. WE ALSO SHOW THAT SOME MECANISMS COULD COUNTERACT THIS PATTERN OF UNEVEN DEVELOPMENT.

Portugal’s Estado Novo Regime and Apartheid South Africa: two dictatorships and their diplomatic exchanges

2019

This paper intends to analyze the foreign policies and diplomatic exchanges of Portugal’s Estado Novo Regime and Apartheid South Africa. In order to fully research these subjects, a search was made in the Portuguese National Records (Torre do Tombo) and the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After a careful selection of the most important documents that served the purposes of this study, we performed a literature review of the subjects at hand, mainly in (Portuguese) history and international relations. The most important reasons for the proximity of these two foreign policies after World War II are extensively debated, whether militarily, economically and politically. The time-span of…

Weak alkali and alkaline earth metal complexes of low molecular weight ligands in aqueous solution

2008

This work is aimed at reviewing the chemical literature dealing with thermodynamic aspects of the weak complex formation (species with log K values less than about 3) between alkali and alkaline earth metal ions with low molecular weight inorganic and organic ligands in aqueous solution. The following ligands (up to hexavalent anions) were examined in detail: (i) hydroxide, chloride, sulfate, carbonate and phosphate as inorganic, and (ii) carboxylates, amines, amino acids, complexones and nucleotides as organic ligands. The paper also identifies the main reasons responsible for the dispersion of the stability data on ion pairs in the literature. When possible, the trend of stability for the…

θ0 thermal Josephson junction

2017

We predict the thermal counterpart of the anomalous Josephson effect in superconductor/ferromagnet/superconductor junctions with noncoplanar magnetic texture. The heat current through the junction is shown to have the phase-sensitive interference component proportional to cos(θ−θ0), where θ is the Josephson phase difference and θ0 is the texture-dependent phase shift. In the generic trilayer magnetic structure with the spin-filtering tunnel barrier θ0 is determined by the spin chirality of magnetic configuration and can be considered as the direct manifestation of the energy transport with participation of spin-triplet Cooper pairs. In case of the ideal spin filter the phase shift is shown …

Asymmetric colour matching: memory matching versus simultaneous matching

2001

We have compared corresponding pairs obtained by simultaneous matching (haploscopic matching) and by memory matching (after 10 min) using 34 reference tests selected from the Munsell Atlas (glossy), belonging to the four main hues 5Y, 5G, 5PB, and 5RP. These colours lie very close to the F1 and F2 axes in the SVF space, where we have analyzed our results. Illuminants D65 and A were used as reference and matching illuminants, respectively. Our results show for both kinds of matching a tendency to select more colourful colours than the original ones, with significant differences between matching and test colours, whereas hue does not seem to follow a definite pattern. This behavior is similar…
