Thermal cloaking of complex objects with the neutral inclusion and the coordinate transformation methods

We explore the cloaking of a complex shape by either the neutral inclusion or the transformation thermodynamics (TT) methods. Thin cloaks are built and the heat cloaking efficiency is investigated for both the steady-state and the transient regimes. We show that the neutral inclusion cloak is more efficient in both regimes, though it has the drawback that the thermal conductivity of the cloaked shape must be known. On the N1-H and N3-H Bond Dissociation in Uracil by Low Energy Electrons: A CASSCF/CASPT2 Study.

The dissociative electron-attachment (DEA) phenomena at the N1-H and N3-H bonds observed experimentally at low energies (<3 eV) in uracil are studied with the CASSCF/CASPT2 methodology. Two valence-bound π(-) and two dissociative σ(-) states of the uracil anionic species, together with the ground state of the neutral molecule, are proven to contribute to the shapes appearing in the experimental DEA cross sections. Conical intersections (CI) between the π(-) and σ(-) are established as the structures which activate the DEA processes. Ant colonies are famous for using trail pheromones to make collective decisions. Trail pheromone systems are characterised by positive feedback, which results in rapid collective decision making. However, in an iconic experiment, ants were shown to become 'trapped' in exploiting a poor food source, if it was discovered earlier. This has conventionally been explained by the established pheromone trail becoming too strong for new trails to compete. However, many social insects have a well-developed memory, and private information often overrules conflicting social information. International audience; AbstractMorphostructural investigations have been carried out on Apis mellifera workers treated with single controlled acute exposures to a biopesticide containing Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), to detect midgut changes until 96 h. Our findings show concentration-dependence of these changes, reflecting in different degrees on both mortality and behaviour. In particular, some midgut changes are also found 96 h after treatment. Background and Aims Some wineries, in order to promote the growth of yeasts able to ferment grape musts, traditionally produce wines using the ‘pied de cuve’ method. The aim of the present work was to study the performance of fortified pied de cuve (FPdC) prepared by addition of wine.
