Deep CNN for IIF Images Classification in Autoimmune Diagnostics

2019

The diagnosis and monitoring of autoimmune diseases are very important problem in medicine. The most used test for this purpose is the antinuclear antibody (ANA) test. An indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) test performed by Human Epithelial type 2 (HEp-2) cells as substrate antigen is the most common methods to determine ANA. In this paper we present an automatic HEp-2 specimen system based on a convolutional neural network method able to classify IIF images. The system consists of a module for features extraction based on a pre-trained AlexNet network and a classification phase for the cell-pattern association using six support vector machines and a k-nearest neighbors classifier. The class…

Separation properties of continuous maps in codimension 1 and geometrical applications

1992

Abstract Nuno Ballesteros, J.J. and M.C. Romero Fuster, Separation properties of continuous maps in codimension 1 and geometrical applications, Topology and its Applications 46 (1992) 107-111. We show that the image of a proper closed continuous map, f , from an n -manifold X to an ( n + 1)-manifold Y , such that H 1 (Y; Z 2 ) =0 , separates Y into at least two connected components provided the self-intersections set of f is not dense in any connected component of Y . We also obtain some geometrical applications.

Effects of continuous and rotational grazing of different forage species on ewe milk production

2012

Abstract The aim of this research was to evaluate the effects of continuous and rotational grazing of different forage species on milk production in ewes. The forage species were chicory (Cichorium intybus L.), a mixture of oat (Avena sativa L.) and berseem clover (Trifolium alexandrinum L.), and sulla (Hedysarum coronarium L.). Forty ewes were divided into 5 groups, and subjected to one of the following treatments: continuous grazing on chicory, continuous grazing on the mixture, continuous grazing on sulla, rotational grazing on the mixture, or rotational grazing on sulla. Among the species continuously grazed, chicory showed a lower biomass than the mixture, or sulla. Ewes grazing chicor…

Improved Solid Phase Extraction Procedure for Assay of Cephalosporins in Human Urine Samples

1998

Abstract Solid phase extraction technique has been evaluated for the treatment of urine samples in the analysis of cephalosporins before injection into an HP-Hypersil ODS-C18 column. Cephalexin, cefotaxime, cefazolin, cefuroxime, and cefoxitin were tested with seven different reversed-phase extraction column cartridges and the obtained urine extracts were not clean. However, 3M Empore extraction disk cartridges packed with octadecyl (C18) bonded silica provided clean extracts with a single extraction. The recoveries of the five cephalosporins ranged from 56 to 60 % in the 1.25–500 g/mL concentration range. The assay was accurate, precise, and adequate for testing the drug content in urine s…

Diastereoselective Synthesis of Dialkylated Bis(phosphino)ferrocenes: Their Use in Promoting Silver-Mediated Nucleophilic Fluorination of Chloroquino…

2017

International audience; The diastereoselective synthesis of dialkylated ferrocenyl bis(phosphane)s bearing aryl, alkyl, and hetero- or polycyclic substituents on the phosphino groups is reported, together with their characterization in the solid state by X-ray structure analysis and in solution by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy. Introduction of various alkyl groups on the ferrocene backbone, namely, tert-butyl, isopropyl, and trimethylsilyl, has a significant influence on the stereoselectivity of the ensuing lithiation/phosphination reactions. Only the introduction of the tert-butyl groups ensures both a high yield and perfect diastereoselectivity, which leads to the exclusive formation of t…

Biowaiver Monographs for Immediate Release Solid Oral Dosage Forms: Cephalexin Monohydrate.

2019

Literature data and results of experimental studies relevant to the decision to allow waiver of bioequivalence studies in humans for the approval of immediate release solid oral dosage forms containing cephalexin monohydrate are presented. Solubility studies were performed in accordance with the current biowaiver guidelines of the Food and Drug Administration, World Health Organization and European Medicines Agency, taking the degradation at some pH values into consideration. Together with solubility and permeability data for cephalexin monohydrate from the literature, it was demonstrated to be a Biopharmaceutics Classification System Class 1 drug. The pharmacokinetic behavior, results of b…

Key advantages of the leverage points perspective to shape human-nature relations

2021

This perspective paper synthesises the special issue 'Human-nature connectedness as a leverage point for sustainability transformation'. Based on the articles in this special issue, we aim to foster the operationalisation of the leverage points perspective to shape human-nature relations to enable sustainability transformations. Specifically, we draw on four key advantages of the leverage points perspective: (i) the explicit recognition of deep leverage points; (ii) the ability to examine the interactions between shallow and deep system changes; (iii) the combination of causal and teleological modes of research; and (iv) the ability to function as a methodological boundary object. The contr…

Traits and emotions

2000

This paper reviews literature on traits and emotions focusing on both structure and management, or 'having' and 'doing'. The cognitive perspective of this paper implies that traits and emotions are viewed as provisions to frame people and their behaviours in situations in meaningful ways. The focus on the structure of traits thus implies considering the now broadly acknowledged Big Five model as a dimensional framework by which traits of people can be meaningfully organized. A similar position is taken with respect to emotions, given the recurrent finding of a two-dimensional model of emotions with Positive Affect and Negative Affect (PA and NA). Maintaining relevant distinctions between tr…
