Recent Borexino results and perspectives of the SOX measurement

International audience; Borexino is a liquid scintillator detector sited underground in the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (Italy). Its physics program, until the end of this year, is focussed on the study of solar neutrinos, in particular from the Beryllium, pp, pep and CNO fusion reactions. Knowing the reaction chains in the sun provides insights towards physics disciplines such as astrophysics (star physics, star formation, etc.), astroparticle and particle physics. Phase II started in 2011 and its aim is to improve the phase I results, in particular the measurements of the neutrino fluxes from the pep and CNO processes. ORDERING KINETICS IN QUASI-ONE-DIMENSIONAL ISING-LIKE SYSTEMS

We present results of a Monte Carlo simulation of the kinetics of ordering in the two-dimensional nearest-neighbor Ising model in anL xM geometry with two free boundaries of length M≫L. This model can be viewed as representing an adsorbant on a stepped surface with mean terrace widthL. We follow the ordering kinetics after quenches to temperatures 0.25 ⩽ T/Tc ⩽ 1 starting from a random initial configuration at a coverage ofΘ=0.5 in the corresponding lattice gas picture. First record of Anisian deposits in the Betic External Zone of southern Spain and its paleogeographical implications

In the External Zones of the Betic Cordillera (S Spain), upper Muschelkalk (Ladinian) facies have been known for decades; however, so far there is no stratigraphic record of Anisian deposits. In the present study, new biostratigraphic data from a carbonate succession in the easternmost Subbetic domain reveal a Pelsonian-Illyrian (Anisian) age. Influence of surface chemistry on the structural organization of monomolecular protein layers adsorbed to functionalized aqueous interfaces.

The molecular organization of streptavidin (SA) bound to aqueous surface monolayers of biotin-functionalized lipids and binary lipid mixtures has been investigated with neutron reflectivity and electron and fluorescence microscopy. The substitution of deuterons (2H) for protons (1H), both in subphase water molecules and in the alkyl chains of the lipid surface monolayer, was utilized to determine the interface structure on the molecular length scale. Introduction: Alkanes are biodegraded to generate the corresponding primary alcohol trough alkane hydroxylases (AHs) consisting on an integral membrane alkane monooxygenase (AlkB) and two soluble proteins, rubredoxin and rubredoxin reductase. Recently, an alkB gene was reported to be involved in degradation of long chain n-alkanes in the actinobacterium Gordonia sp. SoCg. This gene was expressed in Streptomyces coelicolor M145 which is unable to degrade n-alkanes. In order to assess the influence of eight different sterilisation and disinfection methods for bone allografts on adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation of human bone marrow stromal cells (BMSC), cells were grown in culture and then plated onto pieces of human bone allografts. A study of the effects of white light on the low and infra-low frequency relaxation of polarization in the barium-strontium niobate (SBN) ceramics is reported. The light is found considerably decreasing the contribution of space charge at temperatures corresponding to the range of the relaxor phase (it is, around the Tm).

ViSPE: A Graphical Policy Editor for XACML

In this paper we present the Visual Security Policy Editor (ViSPE), a policy-maker-friendly graphical editor for the eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML). The editor is based on the programming language Scratch and implemented in Smalltalk. It uses a graphical block-based syntax for declaring access control polices that simplifies many of the cumbersome and verbose parts of XACML. Using a graphical language allows the editor to aid the policy-maker in building polices by providing visual feedback and by grouping blocks and operators that fit together and also indicating which blocks that stick together.
