An ionene with spirane structure (spiroionene)

1990

The secondary diamine 1,3,5,7-tetrahydro[1,2c:4,5c'] benzodipyrrole (3) and 1,2,4,5-tetrabromomethylbenzene (1) form a polymeric ionene with spirane structure through a repetitive alkylation reaction. The structure of the product could be proven by13C-NMR spectroscopy by comparison with suitable reference compounds. Solutions in aqueous methanol exhibit a typical polyelectrolyte effect. Variation of the counterions produces sufficient solubility in organic solvents. From the crystal structure of a similar model compound one can conclude that the synthesized polymer has a rod-like shape.

A novel bisphosphonate-based solid phase method for effective removal of chromium(iii) from aqueous solutions and tannery effluents

2013

Effective removal of chromium(III) from waste waters e.g. in the leather industry is required due to continuously tightening environmental regulations, and several methods such as precipitation and adsorption are currently in use. Nevertheless, more efficient, straightforward and inexpensive methods are constantly being sought. The current study describes a novel method to separate chromium(III) from aqueous solutions based on the use of solid bisphosphonates with a P–C–P backbone. Five classes of bisphosphonates with different functional groups and alkyl chain lengths at the center carbon, in all 16 compounds, were prepared and their suitability for metal ion complexing as chelating agents…

NMR Study of the (Z)-Phenylhydrazones of 5-Alkyl- and 5-Aryl-3-benzoyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles: Support for the Interpretation of Kinetic Results on the Re…

2005

An analysis of the 1H, 13C, and 15N NMR substituent chemical shifts (SCSs) of the title compounds in CDCl3 solution has been carried out by using the SCSs of other classes of compounds (arenes, methyl esters or amides), Hammett substituent constants or kinetic data. The results obtained provide information concerning the ground-state electronic distribution of the compounds examined. The results relevant to the carbon and nitrogen atoms of the 1,2,4-oxadiazole ring can be considered of special interest, as the effects of the substit- Introduction For several years our research group has been involved in the use of NMR spectroscopic data (1H, 13C, 15N, and 17O) to obtain information about th…

Weak interactions between resorcinarenes and diquaternary alkyl ammonium cations

2005

The interactions of resorcin[4]arenes 1 with alkyl ammonium cations bearing a 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) scaffold (32+, 42+ and 52+) were analyzed in the solid state by X-ray crystallography, in solution by 1H NMR spectroscopy, and in the gas phase by ESI-TOF mass spectrometry. The results are complemented with AM1 calculations and compared to previous reports on complexation studies of resorcinarenes with quaternary alkyl ammonium cations. The NMR titration results indicate that there are hardly any differences in the binding of the quaternary tetramethyl ammonium cation 2+ and the diquaternary N,N’-dimethyl DABCO dication 42+. The large N,N’-dibenzyl DABCO dication 52+ has two …

Mandelamide-zinc-catalyzed enantioselective alkyne addition to heteroaromatic aldehydes.

2006

The (S,S)-mandelamide III catalyzes the additions of both aryl- and alkylalkynylzinc reagents to heteroaromatic aldehydes with good yields and enantioselectivities up to 92%. This catalyst is easily prepared in a one-step procedure, and both enantiomers are available. Unlike most other described methods, using this catalyst does not require the addition of Ti(O(i)Pr)4.

Alkyl- and aryl-substituted corroles. 4. Solvent effects on the electrochemical and spectral properties of cobalt corroles.

2003

Solvent effects on the electrochemistry and spectroscopic properties of alkyl- and aryl-substituted corroles in nonaqueous media are reported. The oxidation and reduction of six compounds containing zero to seven phenyl or substituted phenyl groups on the macrocycle were studied in four different nonaqueous solvents (CH(2)Cl(2), PhCN, THF, and pyridine) containing 0.1 M tetra-n-butylammonium perchlorate. Dimers were formed upon oxidation of all corroles in CH(2)Cl(2), but this was not the case in the other three solvents, where either monomers or dimers were formed upon oxidation depending upon the solvent Gutmann donor number and the number or location of aryl substituents on the macrocycl…

Separation of homologues and isomers of linear alkylbenzenesulfonates by capillary electrophoresis with sodium dodecyl sulfate, carboxylic acids and …

2003

The ability of several anionic compounds, including carboxylic and dicarboxylic acids, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and sodium deoxycholate (SDC) and other bile salts, to separate the C(10)-C(13) homologues and the corresponding 20 positional isomers of linear alkylbenzenesulfonates (LAS) by capillary electrophoresis was studied. Up to 19 peaks and a shoulder were observed with a background electrolyte (BGE) containing 10 mM phosphate (pH 6.8), 30% acetonitrile and 40 mM SDS, and 18 peaks were obtained with a BGE containing 10 mM borate (pH 9), 40% ethanol and 40 mM palmitic acid (PA). Resolution increased with the alkyl chain length of the carboxylic acid. Dicarboxylic acids with a short …

Towards the Next Generation of Lochmann-Schlosser Superbases: A Potassium Neopentyl/Alkoxy Aggregate used in the Tetra-Functionalization of Ferrocene

2018

Lochmann-Schlosser superbases are formed by mixing alkyllithium with potassium alkoxides. These reagents could prove their synthetic usefulness and reliability in many reactions over five decades. However, despite many efforts, the real source of the exceptional reactivity remained a secret. The seemingly manageable system of four components (lithium, potassium atoms, alkyl groups, and alkoxy groups) and their interaction is obscured by poor solubility and fierce reactivity. Recent progress was achieved by using neopentyllithium, leading to alkane-soluble aggregates with varying lithium/potassium content and a flexible alkyl/alkoxy ratio. Herein, we isolated two new alkane-soluble alkyl/alk…

ChemInform Abstract: Ring Expansion of 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroisoquinolines to Dibenzo[c,f]azonines. An Unexpected [1,4]-Sigmatropic Rearrangement of Nitr…

2014

When the products of a Strecker reaction of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines with aromatic aldehydes are quaternized with alkyl triflates and subsequently treated with base, a ring expansion to 6,7,8,13-tetrahydro-5H-dibenzo[c,f]azonine-5-carbonitriles takes place. The nine-membered cyclic products can be obtained in good yields (78–89%) in a process involving the [1,4]-sigmatropic rearrangement of a nitrile-stabilized ammonium ylide. The reaction sequence provides a new, simple, and efficient method for the synthesis of these unusual N-heterocycles.
