Increased Auxin Content and Altered Auxin Response in Barley Necrotic Mutant nec1

2012

The role of hormone crosstalk in plant immunity is lately emerging as significant topic of plant physiology. Although crosstalk between salicylic acid and auxin affects plant disease resistance, molecular mechanisms of this process have not yet been uncovered in details. Mutations disrupting cyclic nucleotide-gated ion channel 4 (CNGC4) affect SA-mediated disease resistance in barley Hordeum vulgare and in A. thaliana. Significantly, decreased stomatal apertures of barley CNGC4 mutant nec1 and dwarfed stature of A. thaliana CNGC4 mutant dnd2 suggest that nonfunctional CNGC4 might be affecting also auxin signaling. Excised coleoptile elongation, stomatal conductance, and cell size measuremen…

ChemInform Abstract: Enantioselective Synthesis of α-Quaternary Amino Acids by Alkylation of Deprotonated α-Aminonitriles.

2015

An α-alkylation of deprotonated α-amino nitriles, prepared from chiral phenyldioxanamine (I) by Strecker reaction, leads to α-quaternary arylglycines with high optical purity after hydrolysis and oxidative cleavage of the chiral auxiliary.

Lewis Acid-Catalyzed Stereoselection on Carbohydrate Templates

1989

The chirality and the complexing abilities of carbohydrates are utilized for chemical stereoselection in different reactions. In this sense, the carbohydrates are investigated as the chiral auxiliaries in alkylation reactions and in Michael additions of ester enolates. Furthermore, carbohydrates are demonstrated to be efficient chiral matrices in Lewis acid-catalyzed Diels-Alder reactions. They also effect stereoselection in a new synthesis of β-branched carboxylic acid derivatives. O-Acylated glycosylamines are shown to be potent chiral templates in the Strecker synthesis and in the Ugi four-component condensation to give α-amino acid derivatives in high yield and diastereoselectivity. In …

Morphology and local organization of water-containing (1R,2S)-Dodecyl(2-hydroxy-1-methyl-2-phenylethyl)dimethylammonium bromide reverse micelles disp…

2014

The structure of (1R,2S)-dodecyl(2-hydroxy-1-methyl-2-phenylethyl)dimethylammonium bromide (DMEB) reverse micelles, at various water-to-surfactant molar ratio (R-w, R-w = [water]/[DMEB]) and DMEB concentrations, has been investigated by small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (EXAFS). SAXS data of dry reverse micelles are consistent with a model of spherical hydrophilic core surrounded by DMEB alkyl chains whose polydispersity decreases significantly with surfactant concentration. By adding water, a sphere to cylinder transition occurs leading to a one-dimensional growth of reverse micellar cores with R-w and surfactant concentration. Th…

Further insight into the photostability of the pyrene fluorophore in halogenated solvents.

2012

Pyrene fluorophores of pyrene-functionalized CdSe quantum dots (QD@Py), as well as alkylpyrene and pyrene itself (Py), undergo fast degradation in aerated chloroform under ultraviolet-A (UV-A, 316<λ<400 nm) illumination. Steady-state fluorescence studies of irradiated chloroform solutions of QD@Py show formation of new bands, red-shifted compared to that of the pyrene moiety. Similar behaviour is observed for pyrene and the alkylpyrene system. Column chromatography of the pyrene photolysate in chloroform allowed us to isolate photoproducts arising from pyrene degradation, and to obtain information on the structure of the photoproducts responsible for the emission bands. The most predominant…

Near infrared dyes by combination of squaraine and ferrocene chromophores

2000

Abstract Squaraines represent a class of compounds which attracts a lot of attention in materials science. A synthetic sequence for the preparation of the symmetrical squaraines 12a , b , which contain ferrocene units as electron donors, is described. The compounds exhibit, in dichloromethane or chloroform, two intense absorption bands. One of them is located at 641/650 nm—a normal region for squaraines; however, the other band is strongly shifted to long wavelengths and has its maximum at 921/961 nm. Alkyl sidechains enhance the solubility of 12a , b , which represent a new type of NIR dyes.

Modelling retention and peak shape of small polar solutes analysed by nano-HPLC using methacrylate-based monolithic columns.

2019

Abstract The development of methacrylate-based monolithic columns was studied for the separation of pharmaceutical hydrophilic compounds in nano-liquid chromatography. The selected polymerisation mixture consisted of 7.5% hexyl methacrylate, 4.5% methacrylic acid and 18.0% ethylene dimethacrylate (w/w), in a binary porogenic solvent (35:35 w/w 1-propanol/1,4-butanediol). The polymer synthesised with this mixture has a good permeability, not excessive back-pressure, and reasonable retention times for polar and non-polar solutes. Monolithic columns (12 cm total capillary length, 100 μm i.d.), prepared with this mixture, were able to produce hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions, giv…

Simultaneous determination of C1−C8 n-alkyl acetates and corresponding mono-, di- and trichloroacetates on glass capillary columns with programmed te…

1982

Gas chromatography of mixtures of aliphaticn-alkyl acetates (CH3−COOR), chloroacetates (CHCl2−COOR), dichloroacetates (CHCl2−COOR) and trichloroacetates (CCl3−COOR), where the alcohol chain length (R) varied between 1 and 8, has been studied on SE-30, Carbowax 20M and OV-351 glass capillary columns with programmed temperatures from 50°C at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10°C/min. Compounds in the homologous series are eluted in the direct order from methyl ton-octyl acetate. The isomeric chloro esters are eluted on SE-30 according to their boiling points in the order: mono-, di- and trichloro isomer, whereas on polar columns di- and trichloro esters are eluted in the reverse order. The complete separation …

Analytical study of proteinaceous binding media in works of art by gas chromatography using alkyl chloroformates as derivatising agents.

2001

In this work, we present the results obtained in an analytical study of the different types of proteinaceous binding media most commonly used in paintings, using GC-FID as the technique of analysis and GC-MS as a confirmatory technique. The application of this methodology requires prior hydrolysis of the proteins in the binding media to obtain free amino acids and then volatile derivatives, in this case by reaction with chloroformates due to advantages of speed, safety and the aqueous medium in which the reaction occurs. The method proposed for the proteinaceous binding media study is to calculate the proportions of the different amino acids with respect to alanine. This method provided goo…
