Polymer, Metal, and Hybrid Nano- and Mesotubes by Coating Degradable Polymer Template Fibers (TUFT Process)
2000
). Selective reaction with the silver atoms at the interface of the particles occurred and the coated particles were then extracted from reverse micelles. The powder of coated nanocrystals thus obtained was then dispersed in hexane, giving an optically clear solution. The size distribution was still rather large (30 %), and to reduce it a size-selected precipitation process [20] was used. In this process two solvents, such as hexane and pyridine, are mixed. The first is a good solvent and the second a poor solvent for the alkyl chains. With this solvent mixture, the larger coated particles flocculated whereas the smaller ones remain in the solution, thus providing size selection. By repeati…
SPM and TOF-SIMS investigation of the physical and chemical modification induced by tip writing of self-assembled monolayers
2003
Abstract The nanoelectrochemical modification of alkyl self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) obtained on hydrogenated silicon surfaces via radical-initiated reactions of 1-octadecene has been investigated. Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) showed that the modification of the organic layer occurs by applying either positive or negative biases to the tip at a threshold of about ±5 V. When the bias absolute value was ≤6 V, the height of the monolayer was only faintly modified, whereas a consistent increase in tip/sample friction force was observed, in agreement with the formation of hydrophilic moieties at the organic surface. In addition to the increase of friction, bias absolute values larger than …
Magneto-Transport Results in SAM Based MTJs
2015
This chapter is dedicated to the description of the magneto-transport results obtained in LSMO/SAM/Co magnetic tunnel nanojunctions fabricated by nanoindentation lithography technique. We started by focusing on the study of LSMO/C12P/Co MTJs. This because C12P is a medium size alkyl chain: long enough to avoid short-circuits in the junction but short enough to give a device resistance in the order of few tens of MO and thus easier to measure. Next, we started to tune the molecule thickness from C10P to C18P (from 10 carbon atoms in the alkyl chain to 18). This allowed on one hand to validate our system by comparing the exponential increase of the junction resistance to the one reported in t…
Iron(II) Metallomesogens Exhibiting Coupled Spin State and Liquid Crystal Phase Transitions near Room Temperature
2008
Reaction of the ligand 2,2,2-tris(2-aza-3-((5-akloxy)(6-methyl)(2-pyridyl))prop-2-enyl)ethane (C n -tameMe) with Fe(X) 2 . sH 2 O salts afforded a series of spin crossover metallomesogens with general formula [Fe(C n -tame)](X) 2 . sH 2 O (s ≥ 0), with n = 6, 10, 12, 14, 16, 17, 18, or 20 and X =ClO 4 - or BF 4 -. Single crystal X-ray measurements have been performed on the [Fe(C 6 -tameMe)](ClO 4 ) 2 (C 6 -1) derivative at 100 K. The complex C 6 -1 crystallizes in the triclinic system and adopts the Pbca space group. The iron(II) ion is in a distorted octahedral environment shaped by three imine and three pyridine nitrogen atoms of the C n -tameMe ligand. The average Fe-N im and Fe-N py bo…
Theoretical study of asymmetrically substituted poly(organosilanes)
1994
Summary form only given. Poly(organosilanes) [-SiRR'-] where R and R' represent various alkyl and aryl groups, are the subject of intense scientific and technological interest because of the interesting properties such as, intense near-UV absorption, highly efficient photoluminiscence, non-linear optical properties, these polymers present. In this contribution, we present the electronic structure of some asymmetrically substituted poly(organositanes). We have focused the study on the effect of the tacticity on the electronic structure of the polymer. We have employed ab initio methods to obtain reliable geometrical parameters. The band structure calculations have been performed using the va…
“Click” on PLGA-PEG and hyaluronic acid: Gaining access to anti-leishmanial pentamidine bioconjugates
2017
Pentamidine (Pent), an antiparasitic drug used for the treatment of visceral leishmaniasis, has been modified with terminal azide groups and conjugated to two different polymer backbones (PLGA-PEG [PP] copolymer and hyaluronic acid [HA]) armed with alkyne end-groups. The conjugation has been performed by Copper Catalyzed Azido Alkyne Cycloaddition (CuAAC) using CuSO4 /sodium ascorbate as metal source. The novel PP-Pent and HA-Pent bioconjugates are proposed, respectively, as non-targeted and targeted drug delivery systems against Leishmania infections. Moreover, Pent has been encapsulated into PP nanoparticles by the oil-in-water emulsion method, with the aim to compare the biological activ…
Spectroscopic Investigations Of LB Mono- And Multilayers Of 2-docosylamino 5-nitropyridine; Promising Candidates For Non-linear And Integrated Optics
2005
Alkylamino-5-nitropyridineshavemently been introduced forthepreparation of a novel type of non-centrosymmetric Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) multilayer (1,2). Hitherto, second order non-linear optical investigations have been resmcted toLB-films oftwomaterialsinaltematinglayerstructureand to films of a single material with head to tail arrangement of the molecules, both of whicharedifficulttoobtain (seerefs. quotedin 1 and2.1. Incontrast, allpresent data indicate that LB-filmsof 2-aUcylamino-5-nitropyridines are head-to-head and tail-to-tail (Y-type) multilayers with a rather strong tilt-angle of the alkyl chains (Fig. I). The most effective substance for second order non-linear optical experiments…

ortho-Metalation of aromatic ethers by yttrium alkyl complexes that contain a linked amido-cyclopentadienyl ligand
2003
Abstract The reaction of the half-sandwich alkyl complex [Y(η5:η1-C5Me4CH2SiMe2NtBu)(CH2SiMe3)(THF)] (1) with anisole smoothly gives the ortho-metalation product [Y(η5:η1-C5Me4CH2SiMe2NtBu)(2-C6H4OMe)(THF)] (2). 3- and 4-Methylanisole as well as phenetole analogously undergo ortho-metalation, whereas thioanisole, N,N′-dimethylaniline, fluorobenzene, and trifluorobenzene do not react with yttrium complex 1. 2-Methylanisole reacts with 1 under activation of the ring methyl group to give the 2-methoxybenzyl complex [Y(η5:η1-C5Me4CH2SiMe2NtBu)(CH2C6H4OMe-2)(THF)] (6). A single-crystal X-ray structure analysis of the 2-anisyl complex 2 revealed a four-legged piano-stool configuration with the me…
Tandem asymmetric Michael reaction-intramolecular Michael addition. An easy entry to chiral fluorinated 1,4-dihydropyridines.
2010
A novel one-pot tandem asymmetric Hantzsch-type process has been employed to generate fluorinated 1,4-dihydropyridines (1,4-DHPs) as single diastereoisomers. It involves the condensation of (R)-(+)-allyl p-tolyl sulfoxide, fluorinated nitriles, and alkyl propiolates, giving access to a new family of enantiomerically pure fluorine-containing 1,4-DHPs.
