Considerations for the Analysis of Small Extracellular Vesicles in Physical Exercise

2020

Physical exercise induces acute physiological changes leading to enhanced tissue cross-talk and a liberation of extracellular vesicles (EVs) into the circulation. EVs are cell-derived membranous entities which carry bioactive material, such as proteins and RNA species, and are important mediators of cell-cell-communication. Different types of physical exercise interventions trigger the release of diverse EV subpopulations, which are hypothesized to be involved in physiological adaptation processes leading to health benefits and longevity. Large EVs (“microvesicles” and “microparticles”) are studied frequently in the context of physical exercise using straight forward flow cytometry approach…

High-quality superconducting titanium nitride thin film growth using infra-red pulsed laser deposition

2018

Superconducting titanium nitride (TiN) thin films were deposited on magnesium oxide, sapphire and silicon nitride substrates at 700 °C, using a pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique, where infrared (1064 nm) pulses from a solid-state laser were used for the ablation from a titanium target in a nitrogen atmosphere. Structural studies performed with x-ray diffraction showed the best epitaxial crystallinity for films deposited on MgO. In the best films, superconducting transition temperatures, T C, as high as 4.8 K were observed, higher than in most previous superconducting TiN thin films deposited with reactive sputtering. A room temperature resistivity down to ~17 μΩ cm and residual resist…

2016

Pro Gradu – tutkielmassa tarkastellaan lähisuhdeväkivaltaa sellaisissa perheissä, joiden vanhemmilla on päihdeongelma. Tutkimuksen kohteena on lähisuhdeväkivallalle kotonaan altistuneiden lasten ja nuorten toimijuus. Aikaisempi kotimainen tutkimus liittyen lasten toimijuuteen väkivallan yhteydessä on vähäistä. Tässä tutkielmassa haluttiin nostaa esiin lasten ja nuorten toimijuuden kokonaisuus heidän eläessään perheessä, jossa esiintyy alkoholisidonnaista lähisuhdeväkivaltaa. Tutkimusaineistona ovat lasten ja nuorten itsensä tuottamat 97 nettikirjoitusta A-klinikkasäätiön ylläpitämällä, nuorille suunnatulla Varjomaailma – verkkopalvelun ”Tarinat” -palstalla. Analyysin ensimmäisessä osassa se…

Genèse et mémoires des randonnées littéraires

2018

Phase equilibria of Pantelleria trachytes (Italy): constraints on pre-eruptive conditions and on the metaluminous to peralkaline transition in silici…

2018

Pantelleria Island is the type locality of pantellerite, an iron and alkali-rich rhyolite (P.I=molar Na2O+K2O/Al2O3 >1.05). Peralkaline rhyolites (i.e pantellerite and comendite) and trachytes usually represent the felsic end-members in continental rift systems (e.g., Pantelleria, Tibesti, Ethiopia, Afar, Kenya, Bain and Range, South Greenland) and in oceanic sland settings (Socorro Is., Easter Is., Iceland and Azores). The origin of peralkaline rhyolites in the different tectonic settings is still a matter of debate and three hypotheses have been suggested: (a) crystal fractionation of alkali-basalt in a shallow reservoir to produce a trachyte which subsequently gives rise to a pantelle…

Extracellular Vesicle microRNAs Contribute to the Osteogenic Inhibition of Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Multiple Myeloma

2020

Osteolytic bone disease is the major complication associated with the progression of multiple myeloma (MM). Recently, extracellular vesicles (EVs) have emerged as mediators of MM-associated bone disease by inhibiting the osteogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs). Here, we investigated a correlation between the EV-mediated osteogenic inhibition and MM vesicle content, focusing on miRNAs. By the use of a MicroRNA Card, we identified a pool of miRNAs, highly expressed in EVs, from MM cell line (MM1.S EVs), expression of which was confirmed in EVs from bone marrow (BM) plasma of patients affected by smoldering myeloma (SMM) and MM. Notably,we found that miR-129-5p, whic…

Active commuting to school among 36,781 Spanish children and adolescents: A temporal trend study.

2021

This study examines trends in the rates of active commuting to school (ACS) in Spanish children (n = 18 343; 8.93 ± 1.68) and adolescents (n = 18 438; 14.11 ± 1.58) aged 6‐18 years from 2010 to 2017. Given the study period included the economic crisis in Spain (2008‐2013), the second aim of this study was to compare ACS rates during and after the economic crisis. Data were obtained from 28 studies conducted across Spain. The overall trends in ACS were evaluated using multilevel logistic regression analysis. Among Spanish children and adolescents, the rates of ACS to school ranged around 60% between 2010 and 2017. The rates of ACS in Spanish youth did not change significantly during the 2010…

Cleavage of Ge–Ge and Sn–Sn Triple Bonds in Heavy Group 14 Element Alkyne Analogues (EAriPr4)2 (E = Ge, Sn; AriPr4 = C6H3-2,6(C6H3-2,6-iPr2)2) by Rea…

2016

The reactions of heavier group 14 element alkyne analogues (EAriPr4)2 (E = Ge, Sn; AriPr4 = C6H3-2,6-(C6H3-2,6-iPr2)2) with the group 6 transition-metal carbonyls M(CO)6 (M = Cr, Mo, W) under UV irradiation resulted in the cleavage of the E–E triple bond and the formation of the complexes {AriPr4EM(CO)4}2 (1–6), which were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction as well as by IR and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy. Single-crystal X-ray structural analyses of 1–6 showed that the complexes have a nearly planar rhomboid M2E2 core with three-coordinate group 14 atoms. The coordination geometry at the group 6 metals is distorted octahedral formed by four carbonyl groups as well as two br…
