Influence of prefabricated post material on restored teeth: fracture strength and stress distribution.

This work studied how prefabricated intraradicular post material affects the mechanical performance of restored teeth. The effect of using two different materials (glass fiber and stainless steel) with significantly different elastic moduli was studied.A combined theoretical and experimental method was used: first, an experimental fracture strength test was performed on 60 extracted human maxillary central incisors. The teeth were decoronated, treated endodontically and restored, 30 with glass fiber posts and 30 with stainless steel posts. The data were recorded and the results compared using an ANOVA test. PURPOSE To evaluate the influence of static (not preloaded) and thermomechanical loading on the load to fracture of metal-ceramic, monolithic and veneered zirconia computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) posterior fixed partial dentures (FPDs). Retentive strengths of cast gold crowns using glass ionomer, compomer, or resin cement

The retention forces of a newly developed compomer cement (Dyract Cem), a glass ionomer cement (Ketac Cem Aplicap), and a resin cement (F21) were examined.Cemented cast gold crowns were removed along the path of insertion with a Zwick universal testing device. Previous works studied the effect of the material and the dimensions of the post on the biomechanical performance (fracture strength and stress distribution) of restored teeth, under static loads. The aim of this work was to study the effect of the post material (glass fibre and stainless steel) on restored teeth, which have the final crown, under dynamic conditions. The use of a biomechanical model, including a fatigue analysis from FEA, is presented as a powerful method to study the effect of the material of the intraradicular post. Load-deflection characteristics of superelastic and thermal nickel-titanium wires

SUMMARY The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanical properties of superelastic and thermal nickel–titanium (NiTi) archwires for correct selection of orthodontic wires. Seven different NiTi wires of two different sizes (0.014 and 0.016 inches), commonly used during the alignment phase, were tested. A three-point bending test was carried out to evaluate the load–deflection characteristics. The archwires were subjected to bending at a constant temperature of 37°C and deflections of 2 and 4 mm. Reversible pH-induced fluorescence colour change of gold nanoclusters based on pH-regulated surface interactions.

To prepare water-dispersible, biocompatible, ratiometric pH nanosensors is challenging. We report here for the first time that the emission colour of NAD+-capped AuNCs responds to the mono-/bidentate anchoring of the phosphoric groups of the ligand. The AuNCs exhibit a high luminescence (21% quantum yield) and an outstanding performance as fluorescent ratiometric pH sensors over a broad pH range.

Optical recognition and removal of Hg(II) using a new self-chemosensor based on a modified amino-functionalized Al-MOF

Abstract We developed a simple self-chemical optical sensor for the monitoring and removal of ultra-trace levels of Hg(II) from aqueous media. The development of this sensor was based on the covalent attachment of amino-functionalized aluminum-based MOF particles with ninhydrin. The new sensor is densely coated with a chelating ligand to permit an ultra-fast, selective, pH-dependent visualization for removal of Hg(II) with detection limit (LOD∼0.494 μg L−1). Screening and authentication of tea varieties based on microextraction-assisted voltammetry of microparticles

Abstract A simple electrochemical methodology for screening and authentication of green, black and red tea varieties is proposed. It is based on the record of the voltammetric response of microparticulate films of antioxidant compounds resulting from an ethanolic micro-extraction of commercial tea herbal preparations in contact with aqueous buffers. The obtained voltammetric responses led us to differentiate between diverse tea varieties upon application of bivariant and multivariant chemometric techniques, including discrimination of mixtures of teas with sensitivity estimated of 5.0 μA mg −1 with a detection limit of 0.01 mg of tea sample. Abstract In the present work, a biosensor adapted in a 96-well microplate has been coupled with a smartphone-based photometer in order to develop a low-cost colorimetric multi-sample dispositive. The strength of this biosensing system is based on the integration of the biosensor into the 96-well microplate and the use of a smartphone and free image analysis software as a microplate reader. The performance of the proposed biosensor has been demonstrated to determine glucose in several human serum samples. This method is simple, cost-effective, sensitive and selective for the determination of glucose in serum, with detection limits of 1.8 mg/dL and a good linearity over the range 6–88 mg/dL. …
