BACKGROUND: The Depression Scale (DEPS) is a commonly used screening tool for major depression in studies investigating low back pain, yet it has not been validated for patients with back-specific problems. OBJECTIVE: To assess the psychometric properties of the DEPS in patients with degenerative spinal disease. [EN] Objective: The aimof the study was to adapt and validate the Yale Brown Cornell Eating Disorder Scale (YBC-EDS) transformed into a self-report format in Spanish clinical and non-clinical samples. Method: Eighty-three eating disordered patients and 358 non-clinical participants completed the Self Report-YBCEDS version (SR-YBC-EDS), the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT), and the Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ). It is unclear whether serological markers of autoimmunity segregate in a cohort of cases with more severe liver damage. Little is known regarding cortical responses to sustained breath-holding (BH) in expert apnoea divers. The present study therefore investigated electroencephalographic (EEG) alpha activity and asymmetries in apnoea divers (experts) compared to non-divers (novices). EEG of 10 apnoea and 10 non-divers were recorded in the laboratory for either four minutes or for two minutes of BH. Alpha activity and alpha asymmetry (i.e. hemispherical EEG differences) were calculated and compared between expertise level and BH duration. Bacterial endotoxin activity is elevated in patients with decompensated chronic heart failure (HF) and acts as a potent stimulus for immune activation. We sought to determine whether endotoxin, at an activity level seen in vivo (around 0.6 EU/ml), is sufficient to stimulate the secretion of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and TNF-alpha soluble receptor (sTNFR2) in ex vivo whole blood from patients with HF.
