Donor and acceptor substituted triphenylamines exhibiting bipolar charge-transporting and NLO properties

2017

Donor-acceptor type triphenylamine-based malonodinitriles were synthesized and their thermal, optical, photophysical, electrochemical and nonlinear optical properties were studied. The synthesized compounds formed glasses with the glass transition temperatures ranging from 38 to 107 °C. The ionization potentials of the samples of the compounds established by cyclic voltammetry were found to be in the range of 5.50–5.57 eV, while those estimated by photoelectron emission spectrometry ranged from 5.36 to 5.74 eV. The electron affinity values of the compounds were found to be in the range of −3.41–−3.05 eV. The ambipolar charge-transporting properties were observed for the layers of triphenyla…

High-Mobility Ambipolar Magnetotransport in Topological Insulator Bi2Se3 Nanoribbons

2021

Nanoribbons of topological insulators (TIs) have been suggested for a variety of applications exploiting the properties of the topologically protected surface Dirac states. In these proposals it is crucial to achieve a high tunability of the Fermi energy, through the Dirac point while preserving a high mobility of the involved carriers. Tunable transport in TI nanoribbons has been achieved by chemical doping of the materials so to reduce the bulk carriers' concentration, however at the expense of the mobility of the surface Dirac electrons, which is substantially reduced. Here we study bare ${\mathrm{Bi}}_{2}{\mathrm{Se}}_{3}$ nanoribbons transferred on a variety of oxide substrates and dem…

Ambipolar MoS2 Transistors by Nanoscale Tailoring of Schottky Barrier Using Oxygen Plasma Functionalization

2017

One of the main challenges to exploit molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) potentialities for the next-generation complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology is the realization of p-type or ambipolar field-effect transistors (FETs). Hole transport in MoS2 FETs is typically hampered by the high Schottky barrier height (SBH) for holes at source/drain contacts, due to the Fermi level pinning close to the conduction band. In this work, we show that the SBH of multilayer MoS2 surface can be tailored at nanoscale using soft O-2 plasma treatments. The morphological, chemical, and electrical modifications of MoS2 surface under different plasma conditions were investigated by several microscopi…

Photon assisted-inversion of majority charge carriers in molecular semiconductor-based organic heterojunctions

2021

International audience; Ambipolar molecular materials hold great promises as a building block of next generation highly efficient, less complex and low cost electronics devices. In this endeavor, the present work reports the fabrication of organic heterojunction devices based on halogenated copper Phthalocyanines (CuPc) and lutetium bisphthalocyanine (LuPc2) bilayer, investigates their structural and electrical properties and probes the ambipolar behavior by ammonia sensing. Microstructural analysis of the heterostructure thin films revealed compact and semicrystalline organization, depending on the number of halogen substituents in CuPc. The heterojunction devices reveal a non-linear I(V) …

The lower rather than higher density charge carrier determines the NH 3 -sensing nature and sensitivity of ambipolar organic semiconductors

2018

International audience; Despite the extensive studies and great application potentials, the sensing nature of ambipolar organic semiconductor gas sensors still remains unclarified, unlike their inorganic counterparts. Herein, different numbers of thiophenoxy groups are introduced into the phthalocyanine periphery of bis(phthalocyaninato) rare earth semiconductors to continuously tune their HOMO and LUMO energies, resulting in the ambipolar M[Pc(SPh)(8)](2) [M = Eu (1), Ho (2)] and p-type M(Pc)[Pc(SPh)(8)] [M = Eu (3), Ho (4)]. An OFET in combination with direct I-V measurements over the devices from the self-assembled nanostructures of 1-4 revealed the original electron and hole densities (…

Orthogonal Ambipolar Semiconductor Nanostructures for Complementary Logic Gates.

2016

We report orthogonal ambipolar semiconductors that exhibit hole and electron transport in perpendicular directions based on aligned films of nanocrystalline "shish-kebabs" containing poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and N,N'-di-n-octyl-3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic diimide (PDI) as p- and n-type components, respectively. Polarized optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction measurements reveal a high degree of in-plane alignment. Relying on the orientation of interdigitated electrodes to enable efficient charge transport from either the respective p- or n-channel materials, we demonstrate semiconductor films with high anisotropy in the sign of charge carriers. Fi…

Can we use time-resolved measurements to get Steady-State Transport data for Halide perovskites?

2018

Time-resolved, pulsed excitation methods are widely used to deduce optoelectronic properties of semiconductors, including now also Halide Perovskites (HaPs), especially transport properties. However, as yet, no evaluation of their amenability and justification for the use of the results for the above-noted purposes has been reported. To check if we can learn from pulsed measurement results about steady-state phototransport properties, we show here that, although pulsed measurements can be useful to extract information on the recombination kinetics of HaPs, great care should be taken. One issue is that no changes in the material are induced during or as a result of the excitation, and anothe…

Ortho-H2 and the age of prestellar cores

2013

Prestellar cores form from the contraction of cold gas and dust material in dark clouds before they collapse to form protostars. Several concurrent theories exist to describe this contraction but they are currently difficult to distinguish. One major difference is the timescale involved in forming the prestellar cores: some theories advocate nearly free-fall speed via, e.g., rapid turbulence decay, while others can accommodate much longer periods to let the gas accumulate via, e.g., ambipolar diffusion. To tell the difference between these theories, measuring the age of prestellar cores could greatly help. However, no reliable clock currently exists. We present a simple chemical clock based…
