The Cosmic Radiation, with its charged and neutral components, can be considered the second fundamental channel for the investigation of the Universe complementing the “Electromagnetic” specific of the conventional Astronomy. The experimental approach considered here is based on the observation from a Low Orbit Satellite of the UV fluorescence signal produced in the Earth atmosphere by the incoming radiation. A general description is given of the AIR WATCH/OWL experiment; some detail will also be given of “EUSO”: Extreme Universe Space Observatory” a proposal which is being submitted to the European Space Agency in response to an Announcement of Opportunity (AO) issued on October 1999.

Fraxinus angustifolia subsp. angustifolia is a plant with an age-old use for the production of manna. However, it is also a valuable source of fixed oil rich-seeds. In the present study we examined the chemical and biological properties of this oil in order to support a possible application in foodstuffs, nutraceuticals and cosmetics. Fatty acid composition, volatile and phenolic substances were evaluated. Oleic and linoleic acid represented 45.5% and 50.0%, respectively, of the total fatty acid composition. Abstract An ab initio study of the electronic structure, lattice dynamic and thermodynamic properties of paramelaconite Cu 4 O 3 is reported. The insulating, mixed-valence character of Cu 4 O 3 is elucidated by analyzing the band structure and the spin-orbital symmetry of the Cu-3 d hole states. Exchange coupling constants between Cu 2+ ions are computed which confirm the frustrated antiferromagnetism of the spin lattice. The lattice dynamics is studied from first principles and main features of the vibrational spectrum are assigned to the different chemical species Cu + , Cu 2+ and O. The history of Saami written culture reflects not only the social situation of Finland but also that of the Saami at the time of the Grand Duchy (1809-1917). Finland was forced to adhere to the Lutheran faith until the beginning of the 19th century when it was a Swedish province. This led to the translation of religious texts into Swedish and Finnish. The situation of the Saami languages was different. The first translations were published in 1619 in Umeå Saami, which the Saami of the eastern part of the realm did not understand.
