Technical Identity in a MergerProcess : Between a Rock and a Hard Place
2020
University mergers are sites of self-reflection where the identities of the institutions in question are juxtaposed and challenged. We examine the organisational identity of a Finnish single-faculty technical university in the context of a merger process with a comprehensive multi-disciplinary university and a university of applied sciences. Through interview data, we shed light on the self-conception of the technical university compared with the other higher education institutions. According to our analysis, the identity of the technical university is constructed and represented in relation to the aspects of society and entrepreneurialism, academic discipline and, particularly, the technic…

Coupling of proton translocation through ATPase incorporated into supported lipid bilayers to an electrochemical process
1997
Abstract H+-ATPase is incorporated into solid-supported lipid bilayers separated from the gold support by a peptide spacer. The translocation of protons across the lipid film to the inner side is coupled to the discharge of protons at the gold surface. The overall process is investigated by square wave voltammetry (SWV) and double potential-pulse chronoamperometry (CA). As a result, the formation of a proton gradient is monitored by SWV whereas currents measured by CA monitor the stationary state when the enzyme activity is directly coupled to the charge transfer at the electrode. These currents markedly depend on the number of ATPases present in the bilayer.

Estudio electroquímico de bronce escultórico: diagnóstico conservativo y autentificación y datación de muestras arqueológicas
2017
What hampers green product innovation: the effect of experience
2019
Based on representative firm-level survey data for Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, this study systematically analyzes the relevance and drivers of barriers to green product innovation using the example of green energy technologies. “Low willingness to pay”, “high development costs”, “high commercial uncertainty”, and “lack of favorable political framework” are identified as the most important barriers. Moreover, we find that the firms’ innovation experience is an important driver of the level of green innovation barriers. Green innovation barriers are more accentuated for firms with green innovation activity than for firms with no green innovation activity. However, experience from diffe…

Rapid Assessment of Gray Mold (Botrytis cinerea) Infection in Grapes with a Biosensor System
2015
Abstract: Botrytis cinerea is the causative agent of gray mold disease, which causes considerable economic losses to winemakers. The extent of gray mold infection of winegrapes is commonly visually estimated, a method that is prone to assessor bias. Here, we used rapid and simple enzyme-based screening consisting of carbon-electrode, screen-printed amperometric biosensors to estimate gluconic acid and glycerol concentration in winegrapes infected with different degrees of B. cinerea. The lower limits of quantification of the screen-printed amperometric biosensors were 3 mg/L for gluconic acid (corresponding to an infection rate of less than 1%) and 35 mg/L for glycerol; the response times w…
Pispalan feimi : turvaton maisematahra vai kulttuuriympäristö?
2015
Tampereen kaupunki on asettanut vireille Santalahden entistä teollisuusaluetta koskevan asemakaavan muutoksen.

This dissertation makes use of legal documents and ancillary official sources revealing the life courses of individuals to explore the implications of bankruptcy and the meanings attached to it at a time when Finnish society industrialized and modernized. Three perspectives serve to support the analysis. At the heart of the study is the domestic economy. Thus the study is concerned with cases of bankruptcy ruin both during life and also after death. Secondly, bankruptcy is addressed as an indicator of economic dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit. Thirdly, attitudes to bankruptcy are approached from the perspective of legal and social forgiveness. The era of industrialization gave rise to ev…
