Cloning of two melanocortin (MC) receptors in spiny dogfish

We report the cloning and characterization of two melanocortin receptors (MCRs) from the spiny dogfish (Squalus acanthias) (Sac). Phylogenetic analysis shows that these shark receptors are orthologues of the MC3R and MC5R subtypes, sharing 65% and 70% overall amino acid identity with the human counterparts, respectively. The SacMC3R was expressed and pharmacologically characterized in HEK293 cells. Abstract Population-based cancer registries (PBCRs) are a key element for cancer control. They measure cancer incidence and trends, provide indicators for planning and evaluating cancer control activities, and undertake research. The first two PBCRs in Spain were established in Zaragoza in 1960 and Navarre in 1970, but it was from 1980 to 1995 when most of the existing registries went into operation. Today, 26.5% of the Spanish population is served by a cancer registry. It is unclear to what extent the endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) contributes to the control of microcirculatory blood flow in vivo. We analyzed, by intravital microscopy in hamster muscles, the potential role of EDHF along the vascular tree under stimulated (ACh) or basal conditions. Experiments were performed in conscious as well as anesthetized (pentobarbital, urethan) animals. Additionally, cellular effects of the potential EDHF were studied in isolated small arteries.
