Objective To determine the effectiveness of GnRH-agonist (GnRH-a) treatment in women with late onset congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Design Prospective assessment of GnRH-a treatment in six women with documented late-on-set congenital adrenal hyperplasia who were not preselected. Comparisons were made to previous responses in the same patients receiving dexamethasone. Eight age- and weight-matched ovulatory women served as controls. Setting Academic medical center. Intervention Baseline blood determinations before and after IV ACTH, before and after 6months of GnRH-a treatment. The ratio of the lengths of the second and fourth finger (2D:4D) has been proposed to index prenatal exposure to androgens. Different methods have been utilized to measure digit ratio, however, their measurement precision and economy have not been systematically compared yet. Using different indirect methods (plastic ruler, caliper, computer software), three independent raters measured finger lengths of 60 participants. Endocrine and neuromuscular effects of prolonged strength training were investigated in 21 strength-trained male subjects during the course of a 24-week progressive strength training and during a subsequent detraining period of 12 weeks. Maximal isometric leg extensor force increased by 19% (P less than 0.001) during the first 20 weeks, followed by a plateau during the 4 latest weeks of training. Androgen receptors and hormone sensitivity of a human prostatic cancer cell line (PC-3) are modulated by natural beta-interferon.

Androgen receptors are expressed at a low level in the cell line PC-3, which does not respond to either androgens or antiandrogens. If these cells are exposed to natural beta-interferon (beta-IFN) a reduction in cell growth and an increase in androgen receptors, evaluated by both biochemical and immunocytochemical techniques, occur. This increase seems not to be related to a selective block of PC-3 in any phase of the cell cycle. Pretreatment with beta-IFN determines in PC-3 cells a partial responsiveness to the androgen dihydrotestosterone as reflected by the increase in cell number. For a particular subgroup of individuals with severe paraphilic disorders and a high risk of sexual recidivism, the combination of sex drive–reducing medications and psychotherapy is a promising treatment approach. The present quasi-experimental study aims at comparing differences in clinical characteristics and dynamic risk factors between persons receiving (+TLM, n = 38) versus not receiving (−TLM, n = 22) testosterone-lowering medications (TLMs). Recent progress in techniques of quantifying between-individual differences of color-based ornaments has revealed undiscovered possibilities for research in sexual selection. We present how the color spectra data can be comprehensively used for studying the importance of sexual ornaments in the black grouse and how these ornaments are related to a male condition.
