Refractive and Visual Results after Implantation of the AcrySof ReSTOR IOL in High and Low Hyperopic Eyes

2009

To assess the differences in refractive and visual results obtained in eyes with high and low hyperopia after implantation of a multifocal intraocular lens (IOL).A prospective study was performed on 172 hyperopic eyes implanted with the AcrySof Re-STOR Natural (SN60D3) IOL. Two groups were created, high and low hyperopes (86 eyes in both cases). We analyzed monocular visual acuity for distance and near, with and without distance correction. Photopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity (CS) were also assessed. All measurements were performed at 6 months after surgery.Monocular best distance-corrected visual acuity was 0.01+/-0.03 logMAR for low hyperopes and 0.04+/-0.10 logMAR for high hyperope…

Optical quality of the eye after lens replacement with a pseudoaccommodating intraocular lens

2007

To examine the optical quality of healthy presbyopic eyes before and after implantation of the pseudoaccommodating AcrySof ReSTOR Natural intraocular lens (IOL) (Alcon Laboratories) by measuring visual acuity and wavefront aberrations.University of Valencia, Fernández-Vega Ophthalmological Institute, Valencia, Spain.Monocular refraction and photopic distance (6 m) and near (0.33 m) visual acuities were determined before and after clear lens extraction with bilateral AcrySof ReSTOR Natural IOL implantation in 30 hyperopic eyes (+0.50 to +4.00 diopters [D]) of presbyopic patients with low astigmatism (or = 1.00 D). Postsurgical binocular visual acuity was measured over a range of effective di…

Effect of partial and full correction of corneal spherical aberration on visual acuity and contrast sensitivity

2008

A 60-year-old white man had cataract surgery with an AcrySof IQ intraocular lens (IOL) implanted in the right eye and a Tecnis IOL implanted in the left eye. The ocular spherical aberration (SA) target for a 6.0 mm pupil was +0.10 microm for the right eye and 0 microm for the left eye. After surgery, the ocular SA in the right eye was significantly higher than that in the left eye (+0.112 microm +/- 0.002 [SD] versus +0.021 +/- 0.003 microm; P.001). No between-eye difference in the best corrected visual acuity and photopic contrast sensitivity was found. The contrast sensitivity was significantly better in the eye with the AcrySof IQ IOL at 12 and 18 cpd under mesopic conditions. The best c…

Axial Elongation following Cataract Surgery during the First Year of Life in the Infant Aphakia Treatment Study

2012

PURPOSE To compare ocular axial elongation in infants after unilateral cataract surgery corrected with a contact lens (CL) or primary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. METHODS Baseline axial length (AL) was measured at the time of cataract surgery (1-6 months) and at age 1 year. AL at baseline and age 1 year and the change in length/mo were analyzed in relation to treatment modality, cataractous versus fellow eye, and age at surgery using linear mixed models. RESULTS Mean baseline AL did not differ between the CL and IOL groups for either cataractous or fellow eyes. Eyes with cataracts were shorter than fellow eyes by an average of 0.6 mm (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.4-0.8 mm; P < 0.…

Pseudoaccommodating intraocular lens implantation in patients with irregular nonreactive pupils.

2007

We report 3 patients implanted with the AcrySof ReSTOR pseudoaccommodating intraocular lens (IOL) who had irregular nonreactive pupils as a consequence of pupil stretching during phacoemulsification. Despite the pupils, the visual acuity at distance and near was not compromised. The outcome in these cases suggests that an irregular nonreactive pupil is not an exclusion criterion for pseudoaccommodating IOL implantation.

The combination of diffractive and refractive multifocal intraocular lenses to provide full visual function after cataract surgery.

2009

PURPOSE To investigate if implantation of a far dominant refractive multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) in one eye and a near dominant diffractive multifocal IOL in the fellow eye improves range of vision following cataract surgery. METHODS This was a prospective, nonrandomized, case-control study involving 20 patients (40 eyes) scheduled for cataract surgery. Inclusion criteria were bilateral cataracts, minimum age 50 years, availability for follow-up visits, and informed consent. All patients received a far dominant refractive multifocal IOL (ReZoom, Abbott Medical Optics) in their dominant eye and a near dominant diffractive multifocal IOL (Tecnis ZM900, AMO) in their nondominant eye. Preo…

Late postoperative opacification of MemoryLens hydrophilic acrylic intraocular lenses Case series and review

2003

Abstract Purpose: To report clinical and spectrographic analyses of 2 explanted hydrophilic acrylic intraocular lenses (IOLs). Setting: John A. Moran Eye Center, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, and Johannes Gutenberg-University, Department of Ophthalmology, Mainz, Germany. Methods: We report 6 cases of opacification of MemoryLens ® IOLs (Ciba Vision) that occurred approximately 2 years after implantation. The anterior and posterior surfaces of the IOLs had a white, frosted appearance, and the IOLs' interior looked brown, similar to the appearance of a brunescent cataract. Two of the IOLs were explanted because of a significant decrease in visual acuity. The IOLs were sent for further clinicopath…

Stereoacuity After Refractive Lens Exchange With AcrySof ReSTOR Intraocular Lens Implantation

2009

Purpose: To evaluate stereoacuity before and after refractive lens exchange (RLE) with AcrySof ReSTOR intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Methods: Stereoacuity was measured using the Titmus stereotest at 40 cm under photopic conditions (85 cd/m 2 ) before and after RLE with bilateral AcrySof ReSTOR Natural (SN60D3 model) implantation in 30 hyperopic eyes of presbyopes with low astigmatism (⩽1.00 diopter [D]). Stereoacuity measurements after implantation were compared with those found before surgery. Results: Stereoacuity was unchanged after RLE with pseudoaccommodative IOL implantation. In this population of non-cataractous hyperopes with excellent preoperative stereoacuity (46.42±1.36 se…
