Biopartitioning micellar chromatography: An alternative high-throughput method for assessing the ecotoxicity of anilines and phenols

An investigation of the use of the chromatographic retention (log k) as an in vitro approach for modelling the toxicity to Fathead Minnows of anilines and phenols is developed. A data set of 65 compounds with available experimental toxicity data was used. Log k data at three pH values were used for the compounds classification and two groups or 'MODEs' were identified. For one 'MODE' a quantitative retention-activity relationship (QRAR) model was calculated. Finally, it was used to estimate the toxicity to Fathead minnows of anilines and phenols for which experimental data are not available. Rapid characterization of alkylpolyphosphonates by CZE with indirect photometric and mass spectrometric detection.

Methods for the rapid characterization of industrial alkylpolyphosphonates (APPs) by infusion MS and CZE with indirect photometric (IPD) and MS detection are described. Technical-grade APPs, including alkylaminepolyphosphonates with 3-5 phosphonate groups and different hydrocarbon skeletons, hydroxyethyl-amino-bis(methylenephosphonic acid), hydroxyethylidene-diphosphonic acid, and 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid, were examined. A 10 mM solution of adenosine triphosphate disodium salt at pH 2.2 was used as BGE. The nominal compounds of the industrial APPs and their impurities were well resolved in less than 15 min. Abstract From the alcoholic extract of Centaurea aspera var. stenophylla benzoic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, apigenin, 6-methoxyluteolin, 11,13-dehydromelitensin, melitensin, stenophyliolide, ethyl-7-O-apigenin-glucuronate and the glucosides of sitosterol and stigmasterol were isolated and characterized. Stenophyllolide was shown to be 9,15-dihydroxygermacra-1(10),4,11-trien-12,6-olide.
Capillary column gas chromatographic identification of sugars in honey as trimethylsilyl derivatives.

A method for identifying carbohydrates (mono-, di- and trisaccharides) in honey is presented. It is based on the separate preparation of both trimethylsilyl ethers and oxime trimethylsilyl ethers of the sugars followed by their gas chromatographic separation on a fused-silica capillary column coated with OV-101 using temperature programming. From the two chromatograms, the number of peaks given by each derivatized sugar, their relative retention times and peak-area ratios are used for identification. The identities of two unidentified trisaccharide peaks are considered. Quantitative applications to honey sugar analysis are discussed.
Enantiomeric separation of amino acids by capillary electrophoresis with α-cyclodextrin

A simple method for separation of underivatized aromatic amino acid enantiomers is presented. The influence of α-cyclodextrin concentration, applied voltage and background buffer pH on the separation were investigated to achieve the best conditions of separation.
A chemotaxonomic survey of Sonchus subgenus Sonchus

Abstract Five species of Sonchus subgenus Sonchus were surveyed for their phenolic constituents. Seven flavonoids were identified: luteolin, luteolin-7-glucoside, apigenin, apigenin-3-glucoside, quercetin, quercetin-3-glucoside and quercetin-3-galactoside; three were phenolic acids; caffeic, chlorogenic and isochlorogenic; and two were coumarins: aesculetin and cichoriin. Their systematic significance for this genus is discussed.
Phenylethanoid glycosides from Prostanthera melissifolia

Abstract Six phenylethanoid glycosides were isolated from aerial parts of Prostanthera melissifolia, together with apigenin and ursolic acid. The glycosides were characterized by spectral methods as martynoside, isomartynoside, verbascoside, isoverbascoside, betonyoside F and isobetonyoside F, the latter being a new natural product.
The Effect of Light Intensity During Growth of Sinapis alba on the Electron-Transport and the Noncyclic Photophosphorylation

The photosynthetic rate of Sinapis alba can be modified over a wide range by the light intensity during growth. Our present results indicate that there exist regulatory mechanisms in the field of photosynthetic primary reactions. We compared the effect of different light intensities during growth of Sinapis plants on the concentrations of soluble proteins, manganese and lipophilic plastid quinones, the electron flow from water to ferricyanide and noncyclic phosphorylation. We further determined the light dependence curves for the uncoupled electron transport with ferricyanide as electron acceptor and methylammonium-chloride as an uncoupler of photophosphorylation.
