Relationship between indication for tooth extraction and outcome of immediate implants: a retrospective study with 5 years of follow-up
2014
Objectives: The aims of this retrospective study were to evaluate the survival rate of a series of immediate implants after 3 years of follow-up and to study the relationship between survival and indication for tooth extraction. Study design: A retrospective study of patients treated with immediate implants between January 2003 and Dec - ember 2008 was carried out. All patients receiving at least one post-extraction implant and a minimum follow-up of 5 years were included. Results: After 60 months, 30 immediate implants had been lost in 17 patients, yielding a total implant success rate of 93.8%. None of the implants placed failed after the extraction of included canines (100% success rate)…
Rolipram inhibits airway microvascular leakage induced by platelet-activating factor, histamine and bradykinin in guinea-pigs.
1993
Abstract Rolipram (0·1–1000 μg kg−1, i.v.) reduced the increase in microvascular permeability induced by platelet-activating factor (PAF; 50 ng kg−1, i.v.) at different sites of the guinea-pig airways. Rolipram (1–100μg kg−1, i.v.) inhibited histamine (30μg kg−1, i.v.)-and bradykinin (0·3 μg kg, i.v.)-induced airway microvascular leakage. These effects of rolipram were obtained at doses which inhibit histamine (7–20 μg kg−1 min−1)-induced bronchoconstriction (IC50 = 3 ± 1 μg kg, i.v.) without depressing arterial blood pressure in the guinea-pig. Aminophylline (50 mg kg−1) did not change the effect of PAF. The anti-exudative effect of rolipram is of potential therapeutic value in asthma.
ROLIPRAM INHIBITS PAF-INDUCED AIRWAY MICROVASCULAR LEAKAGE IN GUINEA-PIG - A COMPARISON WITH MILRINONE AND THEOPHYLLINE
1992
The effects of 3 phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors, rolipram (PDE IV), milrinone (PDE III) and theophylline (non-selective) on PAF (50 ng kg-1; iv)-induced airway vascular leakage have been evaluated in guinea-pigs. Rolipram (3-300 micrograms kg-1; iv) reduced the increase in permeability induced by PAF at all airway levels whereas milrinone (10-1000 micrograms kg-1; iv) and theophylline (30 mg kg-1; iv) were without effects. The anti-leakage activity of rolipram may be of therapeutic value in asthma.
Effects of dry needling of the obliquus capitis inferior on sensorimotor control and cervical mobility in people with neck pain: A double-blind, rand…
2021
Abstract Background Impairments of sensorimotor control relating to head and eye movement control and postural stability are often present in people with neck pain. The upper cervical spine and particularly the obliquus capitis inferior (OCI) play an important proprioceptive role; and its impairment may alter cervical sensorimotor control. Dry needling (DN) is a valid technique to target the OCI. Objectives To investigate if a single DN session of the OCI muscle improves head and eye movement control-related outcomes, postural stability, and cervical mobility in people with neck pain. Methods Forty people with neck pain were randomly assigned to receive a single session of DN or sham needli…
Neuromuscular electrical stimulation: a new therapeutic option for chronic diseases based on contraction-induced myokine secretion
2019
Myokines are peptides known to modulate brain neuroplasticity, adipocyte metabolism, bone mineralization, endothelium repair and cell growth arrest in colon and breast cancer, among other processes. Repeated skeletal muscle contraction induces the production and secretion of myokines, which have a wide range of functions in different tissues and organs. This new role of skeletal muscle as a secretory organ means skeletal muscle contraction could be a key player in the prevention and/or management of chronic disease. However, some individuals are not capable of optimal physical exercise in terms of adequate duration, intensity or muscles involved, and therefore they may be virtually deprived…
CAD Modeling for Evaluating LVOT Obstruction in Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement
2019
The current generation of transcatheter heart valves (THV), as the Edwards SAPIEN 3 Ultra (S3), is not specifically designed for mitral position implantation and has intrinsic design geometry that may make mitral implantation suboptimal. This study aimed to develop a computed-tomography (CT) based CAD workflow for the preoperative planning of transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) by evaluating the resulting obstruction in the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT). Specifically, the computational framework to reconstruct heart anatomy and virtually deploy the THV into mitral valve annulus was developed and successively applied to the cases of two patients who experienced annuloplasty…
Osteotome sinus floor elevation without grafting material: Results of a 2-year prospective study
2014
Objectives: The aim of this prospective clinical trial was to evaluate the success implant rates during 24 months using OSFE procedure without grafting materials. Study Design: 42 adult patients (22 female, 15 male) were selected according to Nedir et al ?s inclusion criteria of which 5 patients were excluded, due to periapical pathology in adjacent teeth (n=3) and treatment with bisphos - phonates (n=2). 37 patients aged 31-68 years were selected. Smokers were divided in two groups depending on the number of cigarettes consumed per day (a) 0-10, (b) 11-20. One patient was excluded because he was lost to follow- up at 24 months A total of 36 threaded implants were placed, | 4,1mm Straumann®…
Å være pårørende når alternativ behandling tas i bruk i “kampen mot kreft”
2015
<strong>Being relatives when alternative therapies are used in the "fight against cancer"</strong><br />CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) is prevalent among cancer patients. Relatives are central to support and care for the patient but experience challenges and stresses in this role. The purpose of this study was to gain knowledge of how it is experienced to be relative of people with terminal cancer who seeks CAM. Five qualitative semi-structured in-depth interviews of relatives and nine biographies written by relatives were analyzed using systematic text condensation. Results showed that relatives experienced to fight for hope in a given battle, not knowing wh…
Influence of childhood adversities and defense styles on the 1-year follow-up of psychosomatic- psychotherapeutic inpatient treatment
2005
Abstract The current study explores the connection between reported sexual abuse and physical maltreatment during childhood and immature defense styles as affecting the 1-year follow-up of inpatients who had undergone psychodynamic group therapy. Early traumatization was assessed using a structured patient interview and the defense styles by means of the questionnaire on defense styles. Reduction in psychological distress and improvement in health-related quality of life formed the parameters against which success of treatment was measured. At the 1-year follow-up, the entire sample showed a distinct improvement. The effect sizes for health-related quality of life ranged from 0.82 to 1.21, …
